It's mad how many times we've been left saying the exact same thing this season. "The referee cost us the game but we were rubbish anyway". There's been an insane amount of baffling decisions this season, they've just sort of gone unnoticed because there's less pressure on us and as I said, we've played poorly in most of the games where it's happened. I think Lenny would have lost the rag otherwise, but instead he's avoided criticising them much because there's no sense giving the SFA another chance to suspend him. Yesterday was an exception, although he did keep the criticism fairly general as there's been some shockers in other games too.

Doesnt help when players are babbling about professionalism in the media then perform like they do. They talk the talk but dont walk the walk

I'd happily see Hooper dropped for Stokes for the rest of the season but Lennon seems intent on letting personal differences get in the way of the team's success.

I think Celtic are worried about his ankle injury tbh, it was a very bad one. Alot worse than first assessed and it seems like they are giving him the rest of the season to see if it holds up

Or maybe, just maybe, the lack of direct pressure in terms of a title race has given Lennon - and most Celtic fans - the opportunity to realise that these decisions are going against every single club in the country?
That, to put it simply, referees in Scotland are downright awful and as i've been saying for years it's about time that supporters of certain clubs took a look at what's going on around them and realised that.

    Maybe.

Yet he came back and made several assists and goals in 5 or 6 games. Much more than Hooper has.

His ankle could still be a long term issue

He was being dropped for big games before his injury too.

I keep hearing that he doesn't turn up for them, when the only 'big' games he's played in were the Europa where he was our top scorer.

Almost as weird as this whole "Celtic's philosophy is to buy players cheap, develop them and sell them" thing the media have been regurgitating for a while now.

He doesnt work much to get the ball back and that was evident against St. Mirren at the weekend. If he wants to play in the big games regularly, he has to improve his game.

And Hooper does?! Don't get me wrong, Hooper's a much better player but he's been half arsed for a good while now. I'd much rather see Stokes/Watt/Atajic up front in the remaining games.

why atajic? as far as i know he hasn't played a senior game for us..

And why should Atajic get more gametime than the likes of Rogic or McGeouch?

Because he's been on fire in the U19s and it's about time he got a go in the first team, with the league all but tied up.

One doesn't have to be at the expense of the other. He's a striker.

I'd have him as an no.10 behind the striker, a position that we have plenty of better players for. Still the argument stands that he doesnt merit starting over the current squad players that are actually part of the 1st team squad.

When Lennon does change around the team, they often dont do the business. So what does he do that others dont? I think he's more likely to get cleaned off by a tackle than score for the 1st team.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,940 ✭✭✭BhoscaCapall

Uh I'm not saying he should be first team, I'm saying he should get a run out since the league is won and our first team players can't be arsed.

I didnt say that you did. I'm saying there are other, better, players higher up in the pecking order that arent getting a game/run out and that Lennon has given squad players run out to squad players before and they havent taken their chances.

You still cant explain why Atajic should get to leapfrog others that are waiting for their next chance. I think Stuart Findlay is the best u20 prospect but I dont think he should be getting a first team run out just because 'the league is won'.

Who are the better players up front? Miku and Lassad have done **** all, Samaras isn't a striker, Hooper isn't interested.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,666 ✭✭✭blahfckingblah

just because someone is scoring in the under 20s doesnt mean they can do the business in the first team

Miku has done feck all but Lassad isnt a striker in the same way Samaras isnt a striker.

Watt or Stokes leading the line in a 4-5-1 with Lassad/Rogic/McGeouch in the pocket since Commons is injured would do fine. You just seem mad to do something extreme because Hooper isnt scoring and likely to be sold in the summer.

Jesus christ... I'm not saying he will. I'm saying I'd like to see him given a chance. I didn't realise giving youth players the odd game in the tail end of the season when the title is wrapped up was a new concept.

Again, what on earth is "extreme" about playing some youth prospects in meaningless games? That's how Watt and McGeouch came through remember.

its not extreme and the games aren't meaningless. If our experienced players aren't performing you think we should just exchange them with inexperienced ones and expect a different result?

Do I expect more effort from a youngster determined to break into the first team than someone with their heart & mind set on a summer transfer? Yes, I do. Even Lennon keeps saying it. He keeps saying some of his players are acting like it's the summer already, yet he keeps playing them.

Here's another pic of our horrific new kit btw

Not sure what the issue is, the games after the league has been won(or lost) have always been used to blood players. A few games without the massive pressure can be vital in young players development. I'm sure there are players certain to be gone and others in need of rest/operations etc who should sit out the games once the league has been wrapped up.

Maybe Atajic isn't ready for the step up I don't know but I'd rather see guys like him get a chance than Miku for example who looks to have no future at Celtic.

Let's face it, we managed to get two good away jerseys this season, we were due an absolutely rotten one to make up for it. The whole jersey looks like one big advertisement for Magners now.

Home jerseys was great this season too IMO.

This new one is so bad. The awful lines aside, the sponsor, tick and even the badge are all plastic glued onto the fabric. It's like a knock-off jersey. In fact you'll probably find better ones down the Barras :pac:

yep very happy with this years tops glad i got the home one considering i wont be buying that abomination... it looks similar to this years umbro kits only a very poor imitation that would be sold out of the boot of a nissan sunny at a market

McGeouch & Watt's development still stalled imo

I wouldnt be bothered giving Miku another minute. I dont think one or two games at the tail end of a season where there is nothing to play gives much to u20 players. The only difference between one of those games and a development game is the crowd watching and lets face it, if there is nothing to be played for then the crowd is going to pedestrian.

The best thing for young players that are too good for u20's but not for Celtic's 1st team is a 6 month or year loan move to a club that will play him regularly. Bouncing for a year between the u20's, development squad for 1 or 2 meaningless games at the tail end of a season wont teach them much. What we are currently doing isnt bridging the gap quick enough imo

Come on man, that is absolutely nonsense. For starters you can't discount the crowd watching. Playing in front of 35-40k at Parkhead is a big step up from 200 at Firhill. It's also the equivalent of your boss giving you a trial run as team leader or something, it's a promotion. Players will be hungry to perform. That's why I'm not just suggesting it for the development aspect - I think they'd offer more performance wise than a better player who can't be bothered

Marcus Fraser is still a development squad player despite playing a few SPL games, involved in a Europa League Match and some friendlies for the 1st team. He's no closer to pushing for a 1st team place than he was 2 years ago, same goes for Joe Chalmers. Paul McGowan, Ryan Conroy & Graham Carey all went backwards waiting for first team opportunities at Celtic.
