Really to be blunt no there not being targeted because of any poppy thing or anything else to do with there politics the two groups at Ibroxare also getting arrested and told they can't break the law it's not one sided

Have you got any links to that about Rangers fans being arrested. The latest I can find is 8 fans arrested inside Ibrox last December due to a disturbance in the stand. That looks like an entirely different matter to what happened on Saturday.

Your insistence on always finding ways to conflate issues relating to Celtic and Rangers and Celtic and Rangers fans just confuses the matter. What happened there last Saturday has nothing to do with Rangers at all, it's a matter to do with Celtic and a section of Celtic's support.

It also has to do with the security forces and how they operate and the attitude they display when doing their job. That's an issue that affects everyone in Scottish society and not just people who go to football matches.

I think that's the point he was trying to make, it's not a Rangers/Celtic thing in the slightest.
The UB have received very similar treatment thus far from the police, videotaping them for 90 minutes and claims of aggressive stewarding and policing, bannings etc.
Exactly what led to the GB's protests at the weekend.

The only reason this hasn't happened to them is that they haven't organised an anti police "Corteo" yet. That's all.

The hassle in the stand you mention, can be put in the same bracket as the GB's reasoning for boycotting Parkhead a while back.

As said before, I'm no fan of either group - but if Saturday's events become an acceptable way of dealing with them, it becomes an acceptable way of dealing with us all.

Celtic are supposed to be making a statement about the George Orwell style police this weekend. But nothing so far. The club really needs to open a dialogue here as whatever anyones opinions of the GB the police attitude and behaviour toward them is way out of order.

It is a shame that this police abuse of power is the topic of the day and not what was an incredible match on Saturday. Certainly the most exciting league game of the season so far at Celtic Park. Some dreadful defending but what a great fight back and a memorable Samaras goal right at the death to win it in injury time was just magical.

You obviously live on a wee world where you have never seen the damage one person can do with a blade.
Tell me why did they not apply for the permits and they must have know they had to. Could it be they wanted confrontation.
I have already said I don't agree with Police brutality but then again I don't believe groups like the GB and the UB are above the law.

Seems you are very hung up about the paper work

Maybe as much as I don't like Police brutality or harassment I do find it strange that the educated members of the GB did not fill in a couple of forms and I have to wonder why.

I can say why, havent read anything on their reasoning for not doing so either. GB can be a strange bunch at times though but the police carrying on like they what we see just gets my goat tbh

I agree with you on that but I don't think we are getting the full story here.
    From either side

    +1

Totally agree, it's not often you get such an exciting game in the SPL these days, but that was a humdinger! And all people can talk about here is the GB and the police.

All the goals here in case anyone hasn't seen them:

I think Samaras has been our most important player this season. He's over-shadowed by the Wanyama/Hooper/Forster stuff from time to time, but he's been brilliant this season again.

    http://www.donegaldaily.com/2013/03/19/ddtv-video-footage-emerges-after-celtic-fans-accuse-strathclyde-police-of-bias/

CELTIC Football Club has issued a statement asking fans from Ireland who have been subjected to abuse by Strathclyde police to report it to the club.

Hundreds of fans from Donegal regularly travel to matches at Parkhead; most recently on Saturday for the Hoops 4-3 comeback win over Aberdeen.

The statement follows another incident where police were accused of bias against Celtic fans before Saturday’s match.

Lawyers representing the Celtic supporters group the Green Brigade have expressed their concern over the policing of a protest by them. The Brigade is an anti-racist and anti-facsist group.

Thirteen fans were arrested by Strathclyde Police during a street procession before the game.

Images and videos of the incident captured and shared on social media depicted a high number of police kettling supporters affiliated with the ‘ultras’ group, which the Parkhead club was “very concerned to see”.

The Green Brigade had previously stated the protest was in response to “harassment” of its members by Strathclyde Police and bans imposed on its fans by Celtic management and the procurator fiscal.

On Monday, Strathclyde Police confirmed five of the supporters arrested were released and will be reported to the procurator fiscal over the incident.

The remaining eight were also released on an undertaking to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

Celtic FC released a statement which said: “The safety and well-being of Celtic supporters is of paramount importance to the club. The club is very concerned to see imagery of Saturday’s march by members of the Green Brigade from Gallowgate to Celtic Park, and subsequent claims by supporters of police harassment and heavy-handed policing.

“This is an issue which the Club takes very seriously … We should remind supporters that the club has set up a working group, which is independently chaired, to establish a Complaints Review Panel to oversee the complaints’ process and improve transparency.

“Any suggestion of collusion between the club and Strathclyde Police is, quite frankly, ludicrous. The Celtic support has a long and well-established reputation for good behaviour and everyone is very proud of that and keen to ensure that it continues.

“In the meantime we will be writing to the Chief Constable to ask for a full report on Saturday’s events.”

Gildeas Solicitors, which acts for the Green Brigade, said that it had received enquiries from people wishing to complain over the police activity in Glasgow’s Gallowgate.

A spokesman for Gildeas Solicitors said on Monday: “Gildeas continue to represent football fans from all clubs including Rangers and Celtic. Any right minded person no matter which team they follow will be rightly concerned about the events that occurred on Saturday, March 16, in Glasgow.

“The huge numbers that have viewed and continue to view footage and photographs posted on social networking sites clearly demonstrate the deep concern there is to the policing of this event. Today we have received numerous queries from ordinary members of the public and football fans wishing to raise complaints about the actions of the police, they have been advised to contact the Complaints and Discipline department of Strathclyde Police.”

Celtic said any fan who has been wrongly treated by the police on their way to or from games should contact the Club with details by using the following email addresses

    fansagainstcriminalisation@gmail.com and operations@celticfc.co.uk.

I don't see anything in that to suggest Celtic are looking for Irish fans specifically to come forward

I took it as fans from Ireland would be included, not specifically.

    Strange post.

    Show us the sectarian outrage?

That website is well known for turning any situation regarding Celtic or Rangers into a slight at the Irish.
The headline says it all - Nowhere does the club ask Irish fans to come forward.

Why turn it into an anti Irish agenda?

Celtic fans come forward, Irish fans would be included. Hardly an anti Irish agenda.

lol - ah well, all innocent.
Get a grip man, you know exactly what they're up to with that headline.

By the way, the statement doesn't even ask for any fans to come forward - let alone irish ones.

Well, ill take your word for it.

Thought it was a good article myself. Sounds like your being a bit over sensitive.

Strathclyde police would never be anti Irish would they? :pac:

Point proven - Their headline plays entirely into attitudes like that.

As i've said before - to turn the weekends events into a Rangers/Celtic thing is wrong, and only plays into their hands.

Its not a Rangers Celtic thing no.

    Glad you accept that.

Its a criminalisation issue with all fans.

Personal experiences lead me to believe there is an anti Irish element to the Police and the offensive behavior bill, Irish songs are criminalised for example.

Thats my opinion. But your right its an issue for all fans who shouldn't be criminalised for singing a song at a game.

Am there, would love to see that in the Aviva! Probably one friendly where a large crowd would be guaranteed.

Knowing the FAI it will be €50 a ticket or something. Be great craic though, even if you didn't go to the match.

One of the worst red card decisions I've seen tbh, I am truly baffled as to how he saw that as a red, considering he was looking right at the incident, and how it would have even been debatable as a yellow.

Embarrassing, as was the penalty he gave for Izzy's tackle outside the box.

Still does not excuse a poor performance overall from Celtic though. Should have gone on after the early goal to close out that match.
