What was 8 Degrees like? I had it at the IFSC but couldn't properly taste it from the plastic.

First impressions were that it had a much bigger whiskey hit than either the Franciscan Well Jameson Stout, or Ola Dubh - both of which are excellent beers. I'm not sure what % the Ola Dubh comes in at, but the Fran Well stuff is 10%, and at 7% the 8 Degrees stuff tasted much higher.

I liked it. Big whiskey hit, more than I was expecting. But very tasty. Strong enough so not really a session stout.

Had 2 each of the (Aldi) O'Sheas Red Ale, Pale Ale and Stout. I liked all of them but the Pale Ale probably the best. Think they were 1.79 each in Nutgrove.

Bellerose Bière Blonde Extra - a light Belgian styled beer with a quite sweet taste like pears.
Slightly hoppy but nothing over the top. Not a bad beer but nothing memorable either.

Was at a local micro brewery in Galway last night. Gotta love a bit of Bay Ale!

I've decided I'm in love with leffe. It's yummy.

Has anyone seen De Koninck anywhere? I wonder if it's available anywhere in Ireland.

Cracking beers, particularly the Red & Pale Ale. Brewed by Carlow Brewing Co. (The guys that do O'Hara's) in case you didn't know.

Just finished a bottle of To Øl Raid Beer. Really nice, and straight out of the Brewdog recipe booklet.

Had a few Kona beers over the last week, quite impressed with them. Surprisingly I thought the lager was the best of the bunch.

I think they have it in the Abbot's in Cork. Had it in Amsterdam a couple of years ago, not bad.

Was told in my local obriens offy that the dungarvan coffee and oatmeal stout was finished. That and the leann follain are my drink of choice.

Thank you, I'm not in Cork but at least if one place does it there's a good chance somewhere else does too :)

Do you know of O'Briens sell it? I think I saw some Øl stuff in there.

The Celtic Whiskey Shop on Dawson St. still had this a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was an underwhelming beer. Leann Folláin is much better

My local Dunnes are finally stocking the 75 cl bottles of Duvel again. Just after I started a 6 week drinking hiatus.

    Le sigh.

Haven't a clue sorry. I tend to get all my 'exotic' beers from Drinkstore

Occasionally I pop into O'Briens for beers since they have Brewdog there now, but never seen any To Ol beers in them Grayditch. Strangely enough, one of their shops has a few types of Nogneo, Hardcore, Brooklyn 1,2,3

Going to be near an O'Briens tomorrow so will pop in and check.

I've was in McHuges the other day as well as O'Briens, I'm probably mistaken.

Gonna see if they have any of that Porter there now anyway, and grab the Left Hand Black Jack too.

Bottle of Cul Dorcha by West Kerry Brewery at the moment.
Have only ever had their stuff previously at the Craft Beer festival in the RDS.
Enjoying it so far, full of flavour.

Fairly inexperienced when it comes to Belgian beers myself, but I'd recommend trying Leffe if you like Duvel.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Give leffe a miss, try picking up some rochefort for a quality example of a belgian.

The Rochefort range is beautiful, but Leffe isn't a bad one to start off with. A few places around the country have it on tap.

Had a Galway Bay Voyager yesterday.

Very nice but a bit raw, very strong citrus hop hit right from the start without the initial maltyness to ease your way in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

I was indeed mixing up Nøgne ø and To Øl, somehow.

I picked up the Black Ball porter anyway.

Edit: Sweet Jesus, Black Ball is something special.

Also had Galway Bay Brewery's new Voyager IPA at the weekend. It's probably the hoppiest Irish beer I've tasted. Smells sweet and slightly fruity, but the taste brings long, lingering bitterness. It wouldn't be to everyone's taste but I really enjoyed it. I think it's great that there's a new Irish beer which brings something different to the table.
