things have improved here slightly, snowing for past hour on and off but most of it very light or graupal. I havent seen proper sized snow flakes yet this cold spell. About half a cm on the ground here again.

If you look closely at this satellite image you can make out the Isle of Man shadow and the reason why N.Dublin has seen little or no shower activity since morning.

    http://www.sat24.com/de/gb?ir=true
That's not really the reason though, and infrared satellite is not so useful at telling the height of clouds when there's less than 1000 metres in the difference (or rather, when the tops of the clouds have similar temperatures). Have a look at the past 24 hours:

    http://www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html

You can see that clouds are already forming on the Irish Sea before they have even reached the Isle of Man. But they're not so quick to form in the area downwind of the Lake District mountains. Also, have a look at the attachment I posted an hour or two ago. The radar pattern I highlighted has been seen all day. The 20 km stretch of sea to the south of the IoM is also showing weaker development compared to areas south of that or immediately to the north of the IoM.

I'd be bonkers to say the IoM is not hindering showers from cropping up but it's the lesser of the two evils. The Lake District has had a bigger impact today.

Sneaky bits of ninja snow swirling about here in Lusk... very light.

From making enquiries, there didn't seem to be much snow falling in Drogheda or anywhere north. Though I don't have specifics.

    Hey people

Look at this if Met E radar seems broken
    http://www.meteoradar.co.uk/Home/ZoomRadar?lat=52.9025&lon=-6.018181818181818&z=7&x=201&y=377&type=rain-snow-sleet

It clearly shows Tallaght (where I am) being MISSED by all the streamers!

But I am genuinely delira for Waterford getting its fair share - given they missed out in 2010..... woohoo! Enjoy! A lot!

Well after a few miserable attempts at snow during the day New Ross is finally completely white. Lots of the earlier heavy showers skirted right around us. My friend 4 miles away snowed in hours ago.

Its just started snowing again and looking at the radar we should get plenty more. Happy days! Snow day tomorrow???

The Dublin snow shield is ridiculous today.

The earlier discussion about the ability or otherwise of Lough Neagh to produce streamers may be worth revisiting in light of present MetroRadar.co.uk activity?

    Any opinions?
