A multi million dollar company should know when they're product is ready.

I am a big fan of them. I'm just not defending them on this one. I have been defending them all along. They rule but when it all boils down to it, they are assholes.

Would you prefer if they released it while it was still buggy? Unforeseen problems arise all the time in the development world. Yesterday there had been no release date announced... today there is. Try and see the positive side of it.

If the rumours about a PS4 coming later this year are true, it seems odd that GTAV will come out around the same time for the PS3. Especially, if the rumours that the PS4 isn't backward compatible.

September? Originally I was shocked, but otherwise I don't mind, in all seriousness.
There's nothing like playing a game through those long winter months.
I can't wait until GTA sells by the bucketloads more than whatever shïte COD is churned out. It also means there won't be as many little buggers on multiplayer :D

    Well F**k you Rockstar!

It was going to be a great summer.
No European Championships, World Cup, Olympics, nothing only GTA 5 on long summer evenings with my friends.

I will now have to spend summer watching Wimbeldon or cricket or some other sport I have no interest in...

Do what I'm doing, spend the few months extra getting yourself physically ready for the hole we'll be all cooped in over christmas playing it!

Don't stoke the fire, lest you get burnt.

Calm down folks. We understand, it's a rough day on all of us. But we can't turn on each other. Wait until we all start playing GTAV multiplayer, then you can all go nuts on each other.

Kinda a little bit happy with this news as I have a lot of work at the start of the year

What really annoys me is that we had 5 gta games on the ps2, it looks like well only be getting 2 on the ps3. Really hope it's not gonna be another 5-6 years before we get a gta game on the ps4.

Fcuk sake Rockstar ... vague much ? All that titting about with information/trailers and promises of a "Spring 2013" release date for a year and a half. Very disappointed.

I really wish Rockstar would actually interact with fans or at least give us more than screenshots. We've been more than patient I think.

Maybe inform us about the actual glitches or if they're even serious enough to impact gameplay. Take Q&A's or an online vote on whether to release in spring or September. For all we know it could be completely trivial glitches with feck all impact on the gaming experience.

Skyrim was a game which had many different minor glitches, yet it was still a perfectly playable and enjoyable experience. I barely noticed any problems. The automatic patch updates were more than adequate.

Better be a 40+ hour main story after this.

To be fair, the Spring release date was only being bandied about the last few months. And at that, most people reckoned it would be May before the game came out.

If 4.5 months is what it takes to make the game as good it as it can be, then I'm happy to wait as opposed to having to deal with patch bullsh*t.

I said this elsewhere, I'm still playing and enjoying GTAIV now, so hopefully GTAV will be as good and we'll be playing it until 2018. :P

Yeah, but it was 4 years between GTAIV and San Andreas. The other GTA games released where LCS and VCS, both of which already had the whole city created with minor differences, so wouldn't have taken nearly as much work. Plus all the PS2 GTA games were based off the same engine.

When you consider the massive jump in detail from San Andreas to GTAIV, it's clear why it took that much longer. Sure, a lot of things (jetpack, planes etc) didn't make it into the game. But they created an incredible city and brilliant game engine.

To be honest, while 5 years is quite a while, when you consider how some game franchises release games every year or two with not a huge amount of improvement between them (Yes Assassin's Creed, I am looking at you again), I'd rather wait for something special. Think about it, the reason everyone is so excited for GTAV is largely because of the wait. So long as they make it something worth waiting for, I'm happy.

The elongated silence for a year then suddenly "spring 2013" followed by "september" with no information as to what exactly is wrong with it is what makes it so frustrating.

I've played GTA IV and the dlc's to death. Nothing really in it aside from the main story. Game Informer even stated the campaign in GTA V will be shorter.

i know thats its a different company but still does anyone remember the upcoming release of GT5 it had a release date some time in May then it got pushed back to a definite release in September but ended up being released in late November who says Rockstar wont do the same

can i just say BABAM I WAS RIGHT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,240 ✭✭✭✭B.A._Baracus

I don't mind waiting until September.

Good on Rockstar I guess. They aint piping one out every year. By the time GTA5 comes out it'll be just under 5 and a half years since GTA4. Thats a pretty good development time to make a good game.

After all Rockstar aint doing a "Half Life 3" :p - and by that I mean 6 years on and not a single screenshot released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,975 ✭✭✭iMuse

Id rather they took their time and made the best game they can, If that means waiting till September then so be it, Plenty of other games to fill the space between now and then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭hypermuse

    To summarize... $hit happens!

If they wanted to release it in Spring they easily could but they are doing the sensible (and sound) thing of ensuring the don't release a broken game.

They are delaying the it for good reason.. not to piss people off when they have it.

But thats rockstars way then never give **** away and always leave you wanting more... If you ask me.....
    Dear all,

Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.

We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.

    Yours,
    The GTA Team

^^^^^^ That stinks of PS4 why would you release a title on consoles that will be redundant:confused:?

Fair enough it would take 5years from San Andreas to IV. But im sure IV and V will have the same engine. I dont get why it took so long to develop. IMO GTA was put on the back burner for a few years. No way it should take 6yrs to develop unless a new engine is being developed which I doubt.

It's frustrating, yes. But (and I hate to keep drawing the comparison) but look at Assassin's Creed 3. Trailers, demos, adverts, the whole shebang, hype upon hype upon more hype, and it was released as a glitchy, rushed and unsatisfying game.

I'd prefer them to keep shtum, drip feed us tidbits of info to fuel discussion (just look how much discussion the mere suggestion of "Spring" generated) and work flat out on what's important. The game.

What use would there be in them telling us why it's delayed? We know why, the game isn't ready. The specifics of why it's not ready aren't important as long as they fix them.

All the info and trailers in the world won't mean sh*t if the game sucks.

As for the story being shorter than IV, this may well be the case. But the dynamic of three protagonists means there's scope there for at least three playthroughs to see everything the main story has to offer. Couple that with the sheer scale of the map, and I think it's safe to assume that this game has the potential to take up more hours than a traditional RPG would.

Also What's amateurish about what they've done?

Ah come on now. The whole V marketing campaign has been a massive disaster since day one, leading to people (myself included) getting very annoyed with Rockstar.

The initial mention of the game was only to sell extra copies of Max Payne 3. I think, once people figured that out, and Rockstar made them wait a year in silence, most people lost faith in rockstar (who were known for being the cool company who cared about fans, etc.).

    They've really damaged their image.

Thought i'd be more annoyed but i'm really not. If it came out in may, i'd have final year exams to get through. But September is ideal, I'll just be about to start a new course but will have some time to spare to enjoy it for a five day session. :pac: The summer has plenty of other things to look forward to. AC3 was one extremely painful experience due to all those random glitches, I didn't even know about a portion of the game because a glitch prevented me from completing it, I'd prefer a finished product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,600 ✭✭✭✭CMpunked

Well this certainly is not good news for me..
I just started AC3 and was liking it. :(

Told you that February wasn't Spring.

I'm not too fussed about this. I'd like GTA 5 tomorrow but I also want the best GTA game they can make. If that takes another few months then that's fine. Gives me a chance to replay VC, SA & IV whilst I'm waiting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,048 ✭✭✭✭Snowie

So what your a fan of day one patches!? Rock Star have not damaged there image and personally as some one who sick to death of day 1 patchs i'm quite happy for them to dot the i's and j's cros the T's and what ever else they feel they can add to make an over all gaming experience better.

Relax, go bye the mass effect box set dead space box set, new consoles are coming why release on to an outdated format? It don't make sense, they can afford to wait.

If your really board dead island will keep you entertained :D...

are you not going to buy the game now because you have to wait?

    Nah.

Games get delayed. It happens. A lot of the time. It's not just GTA V. Look at South Park. Look at Colonial Marines. Look at Metal Gear Rising.

Far better that they're delayed until they#re perfect than rushed through when they're half-arsed.
