Well this certainly is not good news for me..
I just started AC3 and was liking it. :(
I'm fairly sure that they've patched over all those issues since I played it. So enjoy yourself. :D My main point is that i'd prefer for the finished product to be released upon release rather than a glitchy game for a couple of weeks.

    Well F**k you Rockstar!

It was going to be a great summer.
No European Championships, World Cup, Olympics, nothing only GTA 5 on long summer evenings with my friends.

I will now have to spend summer watching Wimbeldon or cricket or some other sport I have no interest in...

Ahem you not a rugby fan then?

Suppose better to wait for a fixed game than a rushed one

Probably PS4 related, but doubt it has anything to do with GTA. R* would already have the dev kits. They would already know time frames for the consoles.

Releasing it for PS4 would massivly reduce their potential audiance. Doesnt make sense. It will be PS3/360.

Shame about it being September but at least we have a date now.

Also, for those complaining about lack of titles on PS3, they had three (and will be a fourth) after developing an entirely new game engine. Thats not exactly rations.

Has it ever happened before where a company has brought forward a release date ?

    Nah.

Games get delayed. It happens. A lot of the time. It's not just GTA V. Look at South Park. Look at Colonial Marines. Look at Metal Gear Rising.

Far better that they're delayed until they#re perfect than rushed through when they're half-arsed.

I've no issue with the game being delayed. It's Rockstar's attitude to it. They promise Cover art before the end of January, then at the very last minute (the 31st of the month), on a day when they're well aware that people are anticipating the cover art from them, they come out and say 'lol, delayed instead, soz. Say anytin bad in de comments n u be banned fnarr fnarr'.

I mean it's as if the fans of the game are a hindrance. The people that will pump millions of Euro/Dollar into the pockets of Rockstar and Rockstar don't seem to be bothered to treat them properly.

It bugs me when I see it. I'm a pro photographer, and I'm not even allowed have a personal opinion when I'm talking to a customer for fear of upsetting or annoying them. Rockstar have just gotten so big now that they don't really seem to give a siht anymore because they know the game will sell anyway.

Releasing a trailer to get people looking at Max Payne, and not giving any other info at all for a year was taking the piss in the first place. Why couldn't they have come out on January 27th or something like that and talked about the delay (and still showed the cover art, anyway) instead of leaving it until the last minute?

Why not be interactive. Look at the people that are at home with the compasses out making virtual maps. Why not have a competition to win a copy of the game on release. Month 1 could be the best/most accurate map, month two could be something silly like a bunch of new screen shots and you have to add captions to them, etc. to help pass the time and give people something to look forward to each month, rather than the silent treatment again.

It just doesn't make sense to me.

Ah, to be fair, I certainly won't be paying close to €500 to play GTA V. I doubt many would. I'd be doubtful many would. GTA is gonna be good, no doubt about it, but good enough that you'll buy a whole new console for it?

I'd expect a PS4 to cook your dinner for you though. What else is there to build on the PS3, some better graphics and perhaps a better engine but at the end of the day does the same thing? Like you say who's paying through the nose for that.

    My two cents,
Take into consideration that this game has been in development for a long time, this thread has been opened years with some of us even hoping for a pre-Christmas release. There is no way that this is the first delay they've experienced internally, if they have their maps, scripts, voice recordings all done then it must be something significant holding it up. 8 months is a lot for a market leader and to be honest I'm a bit worried.

They're going to need to start showing more transparency to fans to show that they havent dropped the ball. New trailers, a detailed update on why the release date is so far away etc.

Again, it should be pointed out that they obviously didn't want to have to delay it, and if they said there'd be cover art by the end of the month, that would have been their plan.

But these things happen and can't be helped. They obviously realised that they needed more time. And while we didn't get the cover art, we at least did get what should be the actual release date of the game.

I know in my job, if we feel we need to delay releasing a project we've been working on because we've come up with a different solution or idea which would be better for the client, or that we don't think it's up to the standard that the client expects from us, we'll delay it to try and release the best project we can and make the client as happy with it as possible. Delays happen.

The problem is with us as much as it is with Rockstar. Huge games like this can be victims of their own success in the hype they create, that when a delay happens it annoys a lot of people. I remember pretty much the first trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4 (at 14.42 in the video below). At the end, it said "Coming 2006". Then the 6 changed into an 8. Then they put a cross through the 8 and put a 7 beside it so it read "Coming 2007". When was the game released? 2008. Delays happen, and while they can always aim to release a game at a certain time, if the game isn't up to the standard that they think people will expect from it, then it's best to delay it to give the fans the standard they expect.

As for the PS4, it's not going to happen. GTAV is definitely being released on PS3 and 360. Nobody even knows if the next-gen consoles will be out this year, let alone in September.

    Christmas market in September?

They're going to sell bucket loads of GTAV, no matter when they release it.

I'm pretty sure they would have considered any possible advantages to releasing it around Christmas before they originally announced they'd be releasing it this Spring. Hell, GTAIV was supposed to be released in November (which would definitely be the Christmas market) but it was delayed until April. Same thing is happening here. They had a release date, realised they needed to spend a bit more time on a few aspects, changed the release date.

It's GTA and it's been 5 years in the making. They could release it the day after Christmas and it'd still sell like f*ck.

It will look the same on PS4 as it will on PS3 surely as it is being created with PS3 technology?

Actually, I read the PS4 won't be backward compatible?

Your probably right, i remember late playstation one(32 bit) games and early dreamcast(128 bit) games looking very similar, WWF attitude, resident evil 2, gta 2 etc..

Grand Theft Auto V playstation 3 and X Box 360s last hoorah... so it had better be good

Well at least we know when it is coming out, provided it does not get pushed back.

I look forward to killing you all come September. When I tire of singleplayer that is.

Not every person who enjoys games is a geek with no life and money to spend on games every week. Some people live in the real world and have bills and debts to pay so a September release(when the kids are just back in school) means that for some the funds might not be available till December.:pac:

I have to laugh at people saying it will be a PS4 release. There is absolutely zero chance of that happening, how many people own a PS3? How many people will buy a PS4 on release(even with GTA V)?. It would cost them millions if they alienated the PS3/360 market.

I think anyone who says it'll be a PS4-only game is deluded.

But there is a possibility they could do what they did with Bully and release on both gens of consoles.

I doubt it myself, but I wouldn't rule it out so categorically just yet.

You'd be surprised, people would find the cash if they wanted it bad enough, anyway GTA V is playstation 3 bound but i wouldn't be too shocked to see GTA V:cash cow milking edition as a launch title for the playstation 4

Its a bluff, in a few weeks Rockstar will announced the release has been moved up to July and we will all love and praise them again :D

But seriously, the next gen consoles are a way off. Microsoft most likely to show of new Xbox at E3, so Sony try to out do them a announce PS4 at end of February.
If both these consoles hit the market by the end of 2013, I will be shocked. Its a PR stunt, nothing more.

And as someone else pointed out, these games were designed for 360/PS3 console, they would look the same on the next gen.
