Are those Trauma Centre games something similar to the Phoenix Wright series, except swapping the courthouse for the operating table?

I'd still rather not use a PS pad with emulators, it's a nasty piece of work.

Nope, Trauma Centre is based around touchpad/Wiimote QTEs.

Ah, I see. I was kinda hoping they'd be closer to the Phoenix Wright games. I might check them out, although percision movement with the touchscreen doesn't work great on bumpy buses. I think that's what made the Phoenix games such great travelling companions.

I'd say he means the pads. It's one of the worst ever created.

And yet I've had some great gaming times with playstation pads.
And as for worst controller, we have used the Jaguar and Colecovision controllers, haven't we?
And the PS3 pad is bliss now, in Dualshock form, compared to the Sixaxis.

The D pad is the main issue (and I'm sure what Retr0 was talking about for emulators) but the whole pad really isn't that comfortable. It works, but that's about it.

Just thinking back to the days before the PS1 analog sticks where we had to use the D pad for things like Tomb Raider. /Shudder!

Is there a difference between Sixaxis and Dualshock? Beyond the rumble feature, I mean.

The only time I've ever properly missed the shake was when I was looking for arrowheads in Psychonauts, which
would've sped up the process by approximately 1.0332 seconds.

Game streaming - the final nail in the coffin that is owning your own videogames. That's one boat I'll never be getting on!

sounds more like Greys Anatomy than TC.
I could never get the hang of the Healing Touch thing in TC on that one if you leave it too long they die

Never really had an issue with the ps pads, prefer them to the xobx one for some games and vice versa

I find I prefer the Dualshock for RPGs for whatever reason, although don't think it handles anything requiring precision aiming all that well. The triggers are probably the worst thing about it.

Still, can't imagine playing any Tony Hawks games on anything else ;)

    http://hackaday.com/2012/12/17/using-arcade-monitors-with-the-raspberry-pi/
Along with the growing popularity of the Raspberry Pi, we’ve also seen a related uptick in MAME arcade cabinet builds. Putting this $35 computer in an arcade cabinet makes a lot of sense, but connecting it to one of the monitors found in old arcade cabinets is a bit of a pain. Luckily, [Celso] figured out how to connect a Raspi to one of these 15kHz RGB monitors, making for a much more accurate emulation of old arcade classics.

The Raspi only has two video outputs – an HDMI port and an RCA composite jack. The old arcade CRTs have an RGB input, so directly connecting a Raspi to one of these CRTs is a no-go.

The solution comes from two converters: one to convert the HDMI output to VGA, and another video downscaler that takes the 31kHz VGA signal and translates it into a 15kHz RGB signal. [Celso] settled on the GBS-8100 video converter, a rather uncommon piece of kit that can fortunately be found on a few Chinese eBay auctions.

After connecting the old arcade cabinet power supply to the Pi, hooking up an audio amp, and converting the controls to USB, [Celso] has a very accurate MAME machine.

Akai Katana is definitely playable in 4:3 on the 360 in its PAL incarnation. On the main menu screen the triggers will shift between three modes, one of which is the previously mentioned Origin mode, or original mode.
    Which is nice.
Still can't make head nor tail of what's going on, on screen, it's busy whatever it is!

The D pads on both are pretty dreadful. I do find the 360 pad very comfortable though.

Still, none of them match the mighty Dreamcast pad. Or the Saturn pad. Or the Snes pad...:D

Aside from fun with vibrational, the big difference between the Sixaxis and the Dualshock 3 is the heft, that is the weight in the hand.
Seems trivial but it somehow means something when playing games with it, makes it more "tangible", I suppose it improves the ergonomics of the design or at least improves the haptic feedback, even without the rumble, more solid.
Same thing goes for the 360 pad vs WiiU Pro Controller, the 360 pad is heavier, having more presence in the hand, while the WiiU controller feels too light and isn't helped by the lack of analogue triggers.

The d-pad on the 1st-party Dreamcast controller only serves to mock you for not buying a stick.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,753 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Oh, I have the stick, and it's done double duties as a hack for a Supergun, before reverting to DC duties.

Agreed. The d-pad is raised so high, you'd saw your thumb off trying to play fighters on that thing.

    It's a lovely D pad!

Doesn't come close to using a stick (but no D pad does). It's still one of the better ones though.

Seen sentinel cases mentioned somewhere here recently, cant find the post now but would getting sentinel cases for the Mega Drive be a bit overkill?
I think one of their nintendo cases they sell as MD cases as they will fit the same.
I have a few MD games that I'd prefer to keep nice'n'minty.

I'd use them for cardboard Nintendo stuff but not for Megadrive cases. Even my more expensive Megadrive games. It's a bit pointless. Just store them properly and they'll be fine. Worst thing which can happen to them is to get sun bleached. So keep them out of direct sunlight.

Just spent the last two hours moving consoles around to make a space for the Wii U. Jeez, for cables that just sit there all day not moving, some of them certainly wrapped themselves up in knots!

It's never too late to start on the Saturn, I only picked one two up last year.

    Sold my Naomi anyway.

Now I have a big conundrum.....Should I sell some of my games to fund a new cab purchase. Like my double copies of Wily Wars and Alien Soldier and one or 2 other bits. Or will I regret selling them in a few months and just hold out another few weeks or so of saving and not sell anything.

Thinking I might regret if I sell stuff
