    Just got these delivered.

I hope they will make my commuting more pleasant in the coming months :).

Thanks for the pointer to these Fahrenheits! I've been looking for a pair of winter road shoes for the last two years and never came across anything but MTB shoes. When I saw these I stuck in an order to CRC, got 15 EUR off thanks to the discount code mentioned on the bargains thread, and they arrived yesterday.

They fit well and seem the business - so far just tried out around the house though. Will be out next weekend, and given the forecast (1 deg C early next Sat ) I will be breaking them in along with a new pair of Endura Thermolite Pro bib longs.

The credit card will be taking a break now.

Bought some Reelights today. Rl720 so top of the range all the way! :D

    http://shop.reelight.com/bicycle-lights/20-rl700-set/

They didn't charge me vat and there not avaliable via other sites, so I'm not sure they turn up. But here's hoping :)

My lights have arrived and been fitted. They are much better than I was expecting :D
I've been down a few unlit lanes and they give you enough light to see potholes etc but you do need to slow down a bit.
I never have to worry/think about lights ever again!

Isn't it a huge mess with all these cables running around the frame?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭couerdelion

Current bike is a couple of years old now and have kind of been looking for a couple of months for a replacement - although I'll still keep the old one as a winter/commmuting/touring bike. Tried a really nice BMC SL01 in Base2Race but in the end I knew I wouldn't get away with dropping 2.5k on a bike past the better half. Decided to buy the bits and build myself over the winter so I'll have a nice bike come Easter and sure it's like paying for it in installments then...

    Frame ordered http://www.hibike.de/shop/product/pa96346687084094c5e40c3eb183a34eb/Storck-Scenero-G1-frame-kit-white-black-2013.html

Then onto CRC for a few parts that I had promised I wouldn't be buying till next month - but they were in the sale!

    Saddle - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25466
    Seatpost - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=19619
    Bars - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=79525

(and just noticed the stem I bought is actually a mtb one - Doh!)

Credit card now sat on the corner of my desk whimpering... :D

Not sure how I'm going to break the news to the bank account but I'm sure it'll recover in time and feel better about it quite quickly once it sees how it goes after building it up!

Lights are on an old beater frame so don't make much of a difference. But I reckon you could hide them easy enough. Styling is a little chucky but that should keep them safe if the scoobies don't like the look of them.

If you take it that way, you may end up admiring your bike all year round instead of riding it ;).

Congratulations! I believe you were hovering with the idea of buying a new wheelset for a while? What was it in the end that swayed you with these over the others you were considering?

And may I be so rude to ask you the damage!?

    They were going cheap :P

Ah no, was very close to ordering campag zondas, but I spotted these for sale for £350 on another site, having only done 800 miles, with new enough tubs fitted and thought feck it, #YOLO  They seem to suit the 'sturdier' man as well, suitably stiff from what I've read, enough spokes that are readily available (sapim cx race) and servicable hubs (shimano ultegra), and they look damn cool! I'll just make sure to drive to all the races I do :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭johnk123

Well may you wear! God I'm very jealous! Should look very slick on your bike too. And YOLO is right... as cringy as the saying has become! :P

Screw it. It can be my project bike for this year, might just about have it ready for next winter by the time I scrape the parts together.

If I strip down the existing MTB and dispose of the frame, the missus might not even notice :D
