    Just passed the nct.
    Clean looking little car.
Great little run about for someone at that price.

    Another decent little run about.
206 with fresh test and low miles.

Noticed the price of pre-82 'Classics' going past the €5k mark - took 2 examples off DD,

    1) Jag XJ12 , 82, for €7,2k http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/vintagecars/3587085
    2) Daimler 4.0 V8 95 for €800 http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/vintagecars/4176027

You could tax the €800 Daimler for 4 years (or 8 years of 'summer use only' ) before you'd approach the money spent on the 'cheap tax' (but high priced )XJ12

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,171 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

To be fair, the Jag looks in exceptional condition whilst the Daimler "has some issues" but a good point.

I think Car Mechanics magazine did some Jag features recently - fixing up a
£250 91 XJ40 and maybe an X300 earlier. You do a lot of 'fixing' before you'd equal that XJ12 price.

It's time for me to let go of my latest bangernomics car.

The dog needs an operation so I'm going to sell it and buy a micra or something similar.

    Is it priced okay?

I know it will need more photos but is there any other advice for the ad?

Sorry to hear about your dog, hope he's ok.

I'm afraid that €1800 for a 12 year old 2ltr with 172k miles and no NCT is unlikely to have the phone jumping. You'll have to get the work done, test passed and a good ad with plenty of decent pics to sell it any time soon.

Phone has rang three or four times with decent offers in the last hour. One guy wants to swap a 98 Audi A4 with NCT and money my way. Going to see it and meet him tonight.

13 year old V6 Pug would scare off many people. I'd be surprised if its sold for that price

I'd be all over that legacy if I was in the market and I couldn't find any decent hatchbacks/estates. Right up my street.

Got a lot of 'swop for Audi' offers - don't know, they must be hard to shift

    Hold out for CASH !:D

Just had an offer of 1700 and the lad will drive from Cork.

    I think I'd prefer that.

This really is the bottom of the ladder. But if the shillings are tight and you dont really care what you drive then here you go .....

Bash the arse of it in to shape with a hammer and with the assistance of some brute force then bingo, bloody cheap motoring. Drop off at the scrapyard when the test runs out. Collect 175 quid and you just wont find a cheaper way to drive.

Bit off topic but will the scrappers really pay 175, i have one of these that i need to sell (UK reg) or would gladly drop it off at the scrappers if i could get 175 euros for it. Its been laid up for 4 years. Could I even scrap a UK reg car here?

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 Bobby183

If you have the V5 in your name and you could prove it was you then I would think they would scrap it. Although I could be 100% wrong on that.

Being honest, it wouldn't matter how badly I needed a car, I'd work a few more shifts in work or save up that little bit extra and get something for circa €500 if it were me. That thing looks totally fcuked and I would not feel at all comfortable doing 100km/h in that thing.

I don't give a toss how much NCT it has, it's far too much banger and not nearly enough ''nomic''..:D

You don't know until you drove it though. If the boot closed......
He did say it was cheap. :)

Doesn't matter how cheap it is to me anyhow, it's in damaged repairables for a reason as far as I can see. I just wouldn't feel comfortable driving it so I'd rather the bus or save a little while longer.:)

Fresh looking 5 series with a years test and leather, 1250

This looks nice also, guy says it needs a new windscreen to pass NCT, if that's all then it could be nice motoring for cheap

In my experience, unless you were to drop it off in the yard with tyres, batteries etc stripped, you'd be looking at around 100yoyo after "environmental charges" for somthing of that weight

I posted this a while back.
I know it's not a very desirable model... but surely if the milage checks out this is a great buy for someone??
    Maybe as a second car.
It looks very clean, has a great spec, NCT and comes with 3 months warranty.!

Were probably splitting hairs but in my neck of the woods I know a guy who got 2 vectra's collected from his house not too long back. He was given €280 for both. I'm fairly certain they go by weight so I would hazard a guess you might get in or around €100 for a Rover 25 as suggested by langdang. Maybe a little over the €100 if your lucky?
