How many of you voted for this chancer and his friends over the years? Topping the poll regularly.

ur exclusive pictures may, admittedly, upset some Irish taxpayers who are facing years of austerity as we pay for the excesses of the government which Mr Cullen supported for so long.

And the hard-working classes might feel their blood pressure rise at the thought that they are paying for Mr Cullen’s gold-plated pension – which comes hand-in-hand with substantial lump sums to help him handle leaving a life in politics.

Yesterday Mr Cullen was somewhat reluctant to offer his thoughts to the Irish taxpayers who are funding his luxury retirement.

And If Coffey stands up in the Dail on Wednesday , when we will hopefully know the contents of this report, ( and our worst fears are realised ), and says he will vote against the Government if this is proposed , I for one will come on here and applaud him . So get real and stop trying to make it a personality issue .....it's bigger than that .
No one said they hated Paudie, I have just put it that way judging from the constant abuse he is getting. I said people don't like Sully defending Fine Gael - I didn't mean they don't like Sully.

I'm just a bit fed up reading the same comments over and over about Paudie and FG, and the elected reps in general. So much of the debate (online and in the media) is being wasted talking about our reps, demanding they resign, saying they don't give a crap, and so on....

So will I. And the same goes for Deasy and Conway, but I doubt all three will vote against the government if the downgrade of the hospital is put to the rest of the house. Conway in particular has as good as said that she will not vote against such a move. She did so last Wednesday on Deise Am. Billy McCarthy put the question to her if she would consider her position in the party if a downgrade is made and she went on with her usual waffle, telling the listeners that she could do better work inside the party than outside. In a round about way in doing this she was telling the people of Waterford and the South East what exactly she thinks of them.

Where is he getting abuse. People on here are just saying that he is not doing the job he was elected to do.

Not abuse as in nasty stuff, but he's been called a disgrace, that he doesn't care about Waterford (if I were him I would find that an insult), that type of stuff, over and over and over again...... anyway, like I said, let's keep the topic about WRH and not about how badly our politicians are performing. I'm not saying we shouldn't criticise them, by all means do.

So what form, pray tell, should this criticism take? "Paudie (enter politician or dumb supporters name as required) would you ever mind, I'd it isn't too much bother, really, standing up for the Citizens who elected you" or maybe "is here any chance you could possibly voice a small objection to the WRH/City Status issue if you don't mind".

FFS this is the City we're talking about - and you're worried about how elected representatives (the key word) might feel.

This City will remain - but the damage done to it by Parish pump politics - and those who promote and support them - will be irreparable.

Let's keep it on topic but not discuss how our elected representatives are performing - do you not see the irony in this?

Right then , that's established then it's just the way you tell 'em ( look back at your post ) . Bit more clarity the next time you post and we're sorted then

I wouldn't have said so. Deasy is considered the safest seat in Waterford. I suspect for example in Roscommon the FG TD that supported the closure of the hospital will struggle to get elected (I think they also hit the government during referendums) and the one who resigned will be re-elected with ease. So voters should be doing likewise here and taking the approach to keep TDs that actually fought for Waterford.

Sorry since Paudie and Ciara started "working hard" we've lost our VEC, Our parity of esteem with the other cities and on the verge of losing our regional hospital. At this stage they can't be trusted to mind a gate out in Portlaw.

Voting against the measures wouldn't really cut it either - given the majority that this "government" enjoys. They should all walk if they had any love for this City at all.

Wait until they downgrade the city to town status.

If this measure goes through then every representative of FG in Waterford and every member of the party should tear up their membership cards and leave the party in protest. Downgrading of the WRH is something that literally affects life and death and should be an absolute red-line for anyone in Waterford

Well that is what the majority of the people in Waterford are thinking. A disgrace is not the worst thing a person could be called. He knows what he signed up for when he allowed his name to go on the Ballot Paper. If He finds the fire is to hot, then he has the chance to get out. If the majority of people genuinly thought he was doing his best for Waterford, not just when it come to the hospital, but to jobs etc they would not be given out. There is also other things that he and our other elected representative should be talking out about since they were elected but have not done so.

Not just in Waterford, but South Tipperary, Kilkenny and Wexford as well. Carlow might be a different kettle of fish, as most of it I am sure is closer to Dublin than it is to Waterford, the same with North Wexford.

Interestingly, I wonder how hard the local TDs (and John Halligan stated they were working very hard on this, and didn't knock the government TDs which would be expected) will find it if the individual hospitals vote to leave the South East Hospital group. Will find it hard to convince James Reilly if the hospitals don't want to be part of the grouping.

Part of a quote from Gary Wyse' Facebook page this evening.. I'm absolutely disgusted.
Interestingly, the minister himself is coming to Waterford Regional on Friday at 3:30pm.

I have just come from an information meeting held in The Woodlands Hotel attended by the Clinical Director of WRH,Consultants and GP'S, I asked the Clinical Director to explain how the Hospitals in Cork and Dublin would cope with another 500'000 people from the South East Region attending for treatment and was Prof.Higgins intending to close wards and Theatres in Waterford?.... The answer I got was that those hospitals could not cope with one more patient at present as they fully stretched as it is.... so wait for it..they would have to build new wards and facilities to cope with the influx of patients from the South East (so we close perfectly good wards in Waterford to build more in Cork and Dublin..is it just me or is that ludicrous???

Here are some more interesting facts from tonight's meeting:

If Waterford's budget is controlled from Cork and lets say Waterford requests a new MRI Scanner and Cork also requests one..who do you think will be successful?

Prof.John Higgins has told Consultants he is determined to dismantle the current South East set up. Fact!

We're hearing so much about this so-called "independent" report that will apparently recommend the changess.

How can it be independent when the Professor commissioned to write the report is a Cork man with a clinical practice in Cork University Hospital - coincidentally the hospital that stands to benefit from the downgrade of WRH??

It's like commissioning Gerry Adams to write an independent report on the troubles in Northern Ireland!

Block the bridges and block the hospital entrances. Form a peaceful protest. Show this ***** what we think of him and what this government are doing to Waterford and the South East. Maybe then he and the rests of the ***** might wake up and see that we in the south east have had enough of them.

How about a protest that takes an element of the Waterford Gives a shirt campaign. Shirtless protesters lay their shirts or the shirts collected already on the road in front of Reillys car on the way into hospital. Would be a strong image and sure to increase awareness countrywide of these ludicrous plans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,137 ✭✭✭reni10

I like the idea of dumping all the shirts right in front of him and blocking his path.

Even better if there are enough shirts would be to block both bridges with the shirts so he cannot even enter and is not welcome into our city!

Then send 1000 Waterford people to a cork hospital and 1000 Kilkenny people to a Dublin hospital on exactly the same day, not to disrupt those hospitals per say but I bet neither of the hospitals would be able to cope with what is just a small amount of people in the waiting area, car park etc. and this would be a sign that these hospital cannot even cope with an extra 1000 people and they propose to have Cork cater for about an extra 350,000 and Dublin an extra 150,000!

Also how much is this guy getting to write this report recommending some ridiculous measures?

I'd be a little concerned that such protests would get ugly and that would put a very bad light on Waterford. The 'Save Waterford' campaign has already stated they wont be and don't want any connection with a protest.

There tends not to be 'peaceful' protests when Ministers come to Waterford and this is such a sensitive issue, it could indeed get very ugly.

Plus if he got wind of a protest, he may not show up at all.

Does this mean that John Deasy and Paudie Coffey and maybe even Ciara Conway will be waiting at the main door of the hospital (or some other door) to welcome him to Waterford and be telling him what a wonderful job he is doing.

Which would speak volumes of him and the government, just as it did of Labour earlier this year when they cancelled a function in Clonmel planned to mark the 100th anniversary of the parties formation. If these people cant stand the heat in the kitchen there is a very easy solution.

I've not seen anything from her and she hasn't responded to my email yet.

Either have Deasy or Senator D'Arcy from Wexford.

I know Paudie Coffey and Maurice Cummins have said they are out if it goes ahead and John Paul Phelan from KK has said he will have to reflect on his position if it happens.
I haven't heard anything from any FG TDs in Wexford either and im not aware of anything from deasy which is not surprising.
