If you didnt give a mobile phone number on the application form you wont get a text message but should recieve a acknowlegment letter.

As i am like everyone else on else frustrated but unless this get national headline from alot of us on ere like rte joe duffy. There is no one in the carers office made accountable they can do what they like. Have sent email to joan burton and everything but to no avail only pass it to carer office. Which is completly waste of time. Im currently waiting 32 weeks and all i want to know it when will it be granted if at all. But unless the people that is waiting on decision get up and be heard they can do what they like. Would anyone in the office wait up to a year to be waiting on money them self ah no. But the people who are looking after people with a disabilty are been treated like this.

[BusyBee I got in touch with carers association they wanted me to do an interview for rte news about this long waiting time but my husband didn't want my daughter put through it so they got someone else.
    We'll get there keep going]

I got in touch with them as well and they asked me would I do it, but my mam is having cancer treatment at the min, and she just wouldn't be up to it. This helps to keep me going to know that there are people out there that are in the same situation. I just hope they put there foot to the floors and get processing the applications faster like they say they are planning on doing as anything more than 20 weeks wait is just to much and even at 20 weeks its to much.

hi grrrlk, i agree with you we should all ring the radio stations and let people how we are being treated, my husband is sick and going to be for a long time, it is just not fair to us all , we need help, i emailed joan burtons office and got a very small letter back and i mean small, saying they are looking into it i have heard that before,we are being dismissed all the time.

Thoughts and prayers to your mam and your family. As terrible as this waiting is I'm glad I'm not alone, feel alone enough as it is worrying about my daughter all the time as I'm sure you are about your mam.
When I get this sorted I'm going to treat her to trip to mc donalds and buy a princess DVD and loads of ice cream and chocolate :)

well we will have to do something as waiting up to 40 weeks for a decision is a disgrace and that what people are waiting and they say 20 week is max i dont know anyone that got granted in 20 weeks. just a disrace they way we been treated and its the longest waiting time for any benifit. When we should be looking after the people who are sick and getting all our attention instead of worrying on will we granted carer or not.

Agree with you 100% Grrrlk but they don't even seem to be getting fed up with the constant phonecalls or emails, what can we do. Busybee 4, I know our circumstances are so much different but agree with you life is tough enough being a carer and they are making it so much harder for us, and I hope you receive a decission real soon, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you and all carers waiting for their decisions

The minister for social protection has no idea how difficult it is to care for someone or in some cases (like myself) two people constantly 7 days a week with no income what so ever. I don't think that all the phone calls that are being made are speeding the process up at all, I've been waiting nearly 14 months now, all these refusals are going to cost more in the long run as we'll have no choice but to find hospital beds for our loved ones, I can't afford to go on like this for much longer, my own mental health is beginning to suffer now :(

Thats just beyond disgraceful Aileach, they should be ashamed of their selves, they really don't think about the carers or the people they are actually caring for the stress it causes on both parties, and yes you are right how much would it cost our fabulous government to put the people we care for into hospitals and how much is it costing them in refusals. Its just shocking, you've had to wait this long, I dread the day I hear word as I don't know if financially I would be able to continue caring. Please take care of yourself as if you don't you will be in no fit state to care for those you are caring for and they do need you. I hope you hear something real soon and for the Irish Government you should be ashamed,

14 months waiting this just gets more and more sicker (no pun intended). I worked as a civil servant myself in the past, and trust me they could move more people around and put them in jobs where they are needed, and there is actually work to be done.
The poor will get poorer, the sick will get sicker. But who will care once the rich get richer.

Thats something my dad always said about this country Busy Bee is that the rich keep getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and your right about the sick to. Don't mean this in a bad way and I don't begrudge my mam the care I'm giving her, but its so sad what would happen to her if I didn't care for her, and its never been about money for me, but it would help knowing that my bills will be paid and my mortgage etc., but by God they don't half make it hard for people to become carers for their loved ones.

9 months after my initial application I got a letter to say I was being refused on medical grounds, I asked for a review and haven't heard back since, I did phone about 2 weeks ago and was told it was still with the medical officer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 70 ✭✭smurphysutton

Ah common 5 months with a medical officer, thats just crap, When i got the courage to first ring them a couple of months ago about my application they told me there are basically 3 hurdles to get over and one of them was the medical and the girl told me that mams medical had passed and this is before anything else is done, so I don't know whether to believe her or not so just may wait and see approaching 40 weeks waiting now so hopefully I will get some word soon, but from the looks of it and reading this I'd say I could be waiting till 2013. Might give them another ring tomorrow!!!

Ailreach, I cannot believe that you still have not heard back yet.Have you tried your TD's.I went to four for help and only one ended up actually been able to help.Did you request to speak to a supervisor in the carer's section within the Department. You can do this and what happens is that the supervisor rings you back.It just might be worth a try.You have nothing to lose.

    Welcome all!!!!!
I'm new here but I followed your posts all the time.
I'm also waiting for Cares alowence and tomorrow it will be 46 weeks and still I heard nothing from them. I called them a week ago and they told me that by the end of the month I should hear something. I spoke with a woman from social welfare and she told me that now Cares Allowence awaiting time is over a year. This is very unfair...

Hi I've just been on to the department with regard to my application and have been told that they are only dealing with the backlog of 2011 the end of it and then have January 2012 to process so were talking sometime in the new year before my application which I applied for in February 2012 is even looked at. So depressed at the min but what can I do....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 tipplady

hi all, no news for me yet, watching the post all the time, the backlog must be terrible, i would not like to see all the applications they have to look at, i think it is just waiting game now and keep our fingers crossed for all of us.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 70 ✭✭smurphysutton

Please god tipplady you will here something soon, I get the impression that the baglog is really bad as they seem to be only processing the end of it now may I ask when did you apply, I applied in February 2012 and have been told that hopefully it will early in the new year before I receive an intital decission. Here is a question for anyone, as I applied in February 2012, I would have been entitled to apply for the Household Benefits as it was before April 2012, if I don't receive a decision till 2013, will I still be entitled to claim for these benefits???

Hi everyone, We have submitted a request for a review just last week.. Should we await the outcome before applying for the respite allowance or will we just be turned down for that until the decision is made on the review. Any advice would be appreciated....

I have read somewhere that you do not have to be in receipt of the carers allowance or benefit to receive the respite grant, and by reading other peoples posts you might be better off applying for the respite grant, I've just checked it its on the citizens informations website. Hope that helps

Hi Smurphysutton, thanks a mill for your post.... I think we will go ahead and apply for the respite and hope for the best. Don't relish bringing another bunch of forms to the GP for completion again.... I hate all this, hard not to feel like a nuisance. I wonder if I sent in a copy of the carers form (which gives all the medical information) and complete the respite forms would that be acceptable - any ideas.

No, you need to get the respite grant form filled in. I know it's a pain, but you should go for it!
