I have an oil level gauge in my yoke.... I don't trust the French, the dipstick is in the oil cap anyway :p

I found the oil level guage in my 406 and C5 were bang on, after a few checks of the dipstick, just used the electronic ones.

Ah jesus, seriously get her car looked at, she has destroyed it potentially, you will get so much good advice here.

Take the time and do it. It's not a case of minutes, first time you change oil it will take at least two hours.

What do you do if you don't mind me asking?

Ya, going to look at it now. I also have to text the mechanic too order some tires as well.

What do I do? I'm on a I.T. course these days, I have work experience in the I.T. section of the council in Sligo every Friday,(which I started last Friday) but its good that Christmas holidays coming up very soon :D.

It does work well indeed but after all the electrical niggles I've suffered with I still prefer to check it myself :)

Drove into Dundalk last night to pick up some friends and ended up going down a wrong country road. A car was following me all the way down until I reached a dead end and had to turn around on the spot, the other car was then immediately off to my right, an unmarked Mondeo. I started routing for my phone and edged the car forward a bit and they then edged forward a bit, kind of boxing me in.

It was only then that I saw they were definitely Gardai, eyeing me and the car up, didn't know what was going on. I just waved at them, no response, and they then went back up the road we came and pulled in, presumably waiting for me to pass again.

I made a call to find out where I should have been going, all the while the Gards pulled in up the road. Passed them again with no issues, just thought it was weird...

Lads what are my options for lowering the car without making it too stiff and low for the back roads?

Ideally I dont want to spend a fortune either.

Was thinking of just getting some h&r comfort springs to try but im open to suggestions obviously.

I just dont want to spend alot and then not be able to drive the car properly?

Whatever you do, don't go for the lowest drop you can get. I did this with the MPS and got H&R 40mm as I thought the other ones (Eibach 30mm) wouldn't make much of a difference. Boy was I wrong, it was too low and scraping all over the place.

That's all the advice I can give you from my experience ;)

    Cheers MM,
I forget to say i will be looking for the smallest drop i can get for that very reason. Like 20mm maybe.

    Anyone else?! :p

20mm is often a drop offered by manufacturers. I found 40mm was bumpy, 50 was crawling over the speedbumps..... 120/80 was impractical :pac::pac::pac:

We used to have 2 mk1 Puntos here, one as a Sporting, the other was an ELX. The Sporting handled better (obviously) with the factory 20mm lowering springs and still was as comfortable as the ELX.

Sold the springs to a chap in Cork with an ELX and was shocked at the difference it made to the car in the corners, without a harsh ride :)

I'm looking for the 20mm TI lowering springs for the 166, which are very rare... Oh well :(

What i'd like is another 20mm drop from standard gti suspension?

Another "I found out that" moment :p

The coilovers coupled with 40 profile tyres were more comfortable than the lowering springs I used to use, pleasantly surprised considering the van was even lower then :)

Why every 5k? I mean like how do you work out too service it after every 5k and not every 6 or 7k? I never really understood that.

Its figures I came up with myself. The micra is '98 and chain driven so I use fully synt oil and change it every 5k so as to keep the engine and chain in top condition, the laguna is '97 with almost 200k miles so do it every 4k with 10w40 semi to keep it running sweet and the focus is a 1.4 2005 with 245k kms on it so service it every 6k miles with fully synt to keep it in good nick. Plus I love working on cars so don't mind spending a bit extra or doing stuff early, I try do as much preventative work as I can and not too much repair work then.

Highly considering getting that terraclean thing for the 156 assuming it fails the NCT with not too many problems(:pac:). Having said that, I feel the car is lacking in power somewhat recently, is there anything I could do that's handy enough to try and get somewhere back to the 120 horses it was producing when new?

Car is a 2001 Alfa 156 1.6TS. 81k miles. Cheersfor any advice folks..:)

Golly, have you looked into the Eibach kits available for the GTi?

Probably the best option if you're looking for a small drop without compromising too much on comfort.
