Same thing really we both want particular cars and choose to drive them regardless of the tax, I suspect you don't worry about mileage either?

How is your Alfa project going stheno? Is the end in sight?

It is. Fatally interrupted due to work travel commitments, but back in for NCT the end of October, and then if it passes the bodywork will be sorted.

I've it a year now and it's a completely different car from when I got it, love it to bits :)

I'll be taking before and after pics when it goes into the bodyshop :)

I do when buying but the number of owners is of more importance to me. While I own the car, I will drive it but I do keep an eye on the milage with regard to servicing but not from a re-sale point of view.

If my Alfa get's through the NCT in december I might look into spending some real proper cash on it. Maybe a wheel refurb or some bodywork...

Completely worth it for me anyway. I guess the tax isn't that much of an issue for me and I do pay it out of my own pocket. I just put money away every week and I get to drive a car at the age of 19 that most 19 year olds wouldn't..;)

It's unreal how satisfying a wheel refurb is. I know you're not doing it yourself but still, it feels great when they're done and all shiny!

I wouldn't be able for it myself... I'd be looking at about €250 for a decent job I'd say too.

On another note I need two new tyres for the front, Tyreland in Swords/Glasnevin I'd imagine? What would I be looking at for two tyres of very good quality for 16's wheels? :o

look no further then wheel wizards in Finglas...I got mine refurbed there and they rebalanced wheels with new valves and all...might be worth having the tyres there and get the refurb crowd to fit the new ones....anyway they done a cracking job

    Betty is a fine name!

I'd love an LT or an old air cooled VW or I'd even settle for a converted Transporter camper tbh..... Surf gear on roof, bikes on back, hiking shoes beside me and a new place every weekend!

I'd love it if it went back to engine size. My tax would drop :D stupid late 08 reg.

I thought all owners of 08 cars in 2008 had the choice of which system to use depending on which was cheaper for them?

Yeah, as above it was only the first half of the year.
Which begs the question, who in their right mind bought a post co2 tax band GTI after the deadline? Obviously not you but did you meet the previous owner at all?

is it just me or have tyres went through the roof?

rang 2 major tyre retailers today to price 2 tyres for my car 185/60/14's. Rang the major guys because i thought (perhaps foolishly) that they could offer tyres cheaper than a smaller outlet.

185/60/14's in advance, and i specifically said to the lad down the phone that "i dont want sh1t tyres, something with a brand name would be what i want"

he offered me "barums" for 70 a piece fitted or "ovations" for 60 a piece. but dont worry, barums are made by continental. no alternatives.

rang fast fit next, at least the fella on the phone listened, he had bridgestones for 85, firestones for 75 or some other chinese **** for 60 a piece.

i bought the firestones at 75 a piece anyway, and i will say fastfit were a joy, staff were unexpectedly friendly and they took the car straight away.

but does this price ballpark not seem a litttle strong for 14" rubber?

Seems pricey to me for 14s, was pleasantly surprised to be offered basic 15" Michelins and Toyos for 70 and 60 recently. HiFlys, Landsails, and Wang Kings (only of of these is a made up, in fact they may all be genuine) were about the same price.

Remember you giving out about the sh1te that was on it down in Courtown in August...:pac:

In other news, my 156 just made me laugh all the way up the N11 on the way home. Driving along listening to 98FM of course and the rear windscreen fogs up, naturally I pressed whichever button on the dash to clear it and the signal on the radio just went all fuzzy... It was random so I pushed the button off again and the radio signal came back...

Each time I have the radio on and need to clear only the rear windscreen there's no radio signal! Couldn't stop myself laughing all the way home...:D

One assumes your aerial is built into the rear window so!

Must be but it was funny the way my car decides if I'm going to listen to the radio or drive safely with a clear windscreen...:pac:
