    Sigh

Thought I was onto a real winner there :(

I'll have to come up with another wild money saving scheme

I'd relax if I were you tbh, they're not going to increase it that substantially. I'd imagine it will be mainly the same as last year when each band in general got another €40 ish added on to them. It's hardly going to break the bank taxing it now to save €50 over 12 months IMO of course.

You DO realise, it's this tulip we're dealing with here? Yeah?

Could be the other former tulip and motor tax would still be on the agenda to go up!

I'd expect the more harsh increases to hit the post 2008 cars and their carbon emissions ratings as happened last year?

I sometimes wonder if he is just as deluded to be honest.

I can't see them holding back on either class to be honest. What have they got to lose by stiffing everybody?

I'd imagine we're going to see stiff rises on both sides tbh...

I'm not worried about it but €50 is still €50 or almost a tank of petrol. Plus I have the money now and am in danger of spending it on something else ;)

The scope is so much greater on post 2008 cars though

I can see them scrapping the 2008 system and adding an increase on across the board of ten percent.

Imagine the screams of horror from the post 2008s on that?

10 percent is a fair hike, but if they equalised it back to the cc system that would be murderous for some people.

One of the greatest gimps the country has seen but I maintain my argument. Hell if it goes up by €60-€70 it's not going to send people into poverty if you get me.

If a rise of €60 on your total car ownership is too much then maybe that person should consider owning the car in the first place. I'm not trying to stir anything btw or come across as arrogant either...:o

Great lol at your post though...:pac:

It's not that i'm stuck for €60 it's just that I would prefer to spend it on something that I want not a tax if avoidable.

I can't see them raising pre 2008 by more than 10% but I can see them walloping post 2008

I may well be wrong, but imagine you're a band a or b now and driving a 2 litre and go up to engine sized tax?

    I'd scream.

Of course, completely understand that, but I mean as a % of the total ownership of the car an increase of €50 is quite small and as such I wouldn't be panicking about it too much. :)

As a student driving a 1.6 with tax over €500 paid quarterly (obviously :pac:) an extra €15 every three months won't be the cause for worry or panic, far bigger problems in life!

The thing is, it goes up €60 in the next budget, it will go up again in the following budget and after 2 years, the same car is almost €200 more to tax per year. Does it end there? I doubt it.

It's pointless arguing about this but they really should leave the old system alone now. It's gone up enough in the last few years on top of being a rip off in the first place. The 2008 system should be targeted for a change. I don't care what anyone else's opinion is, it's only fair. For the majority of time I myself have owned cars, I haven't paid the same in the last few years and it's bollocks if you ask me.

This would be my view too, it's complete bollocks how they have seperated out.

That's for the likes of me paying 600 odd on tax, for someone on 1600 that's another 160

I really think they will wallop the 2008 system this budget.

    I'm not, I'm 1390, I think anything above 3ltr is 1600 ;)

I just remembered, my tax on the MPS went from €860 to €945. That's €85 which is a substantial hike if you ask me.

Yeah but I like cars, you don't :P

This would be my thing, I'd rather have an older car that I really wanted, and pay the tax/put up with the mpg to get a car I really wanted if that makes any sense?

That's what I do but mine isn't really an old car as such. I want the car, I will pay the tax but I'm also of the opinion that the tax is a total and utter rip off but I want the car. The government know this hence why I and everyone else is still going to pay the tax no matter what it increases by :pac:

    Low blow :(

I require practicality :( you just wait until I get my hands on a VW passion wagon and send the diesel Toyota back to sitting outside a church of a sunday morning! :D

Same thing really we both want particular cars and choose to drive them regardless of the tax, I suspect you don't worry about mileage either?
