If I remember right in planetside 1 did the engineers repair gun need some kind of ammunition? I do remember being able to drop a self shooting turret and mines.... I was hoping that those features made it into 2, but alas no.

Afaik the turrets and mines are gonna be implemented eventually, and yes there was engineering ammo, there was also healing gun ammo, it made those professions alot more tactical instead of the spammy mess they are right now

Well I have to say I'm disapointed in the MAX AA/AV ability. Having only ONE gun for AA or AV is utterly stupid (esp. as both have low ammo per clip and can't kill a tank/airplane with a full clip let alone the poor splash and aiming). Ran around with both for over an hour last night and the only tank killed was a parked tank with out a player and the only planes going down were already half dead or more flying in straight lines.

Bring back the old MAXes for AV/AA I say (or at least give the option to double arm AV/AA weapons)!

They were unbelievably OP before they patch the one type per arm thing. AA Maxes would easily shut down aircraft in a heart beat.

Yeah they were but still aa could do with a slight buff to even out the massive nerf

Well seeing how we (TR) stood around today in one of the larger bases (1 control point only type of base) with enemy airplanes flying around willy nilly above us I can say with out a doubt there needs to be far better AA outside of friendly airplanes and fixed turret installations...

Unless they do something serious about AA I'm having my doubts honestly. Currently tanks die to everything (heavy will almost kill one with the standard dummy rocket with out any mods), infantry die to everything (even if there are some really stupid set ups), MAXes die to everything and are useless to boot so an easy way not to waste resources. Air die to, well, air and possibly turrets if they are at 50% health flying straight lines but nothing else.

Most fights I see consists of 0 to 2 ground vehicles, 5 to 50 infantry and another 10 to 20 airplanes buzzing around playing tag with everything and rarely if ever dying (to anything but dedicated fitted air hunting plane). The number of times I've seen a proper vehicle engagement (i.e. 5+ tanks each side) are easy to count because all tanks are sitting free exp for air...

Having said that I'll subscribe up for sure; I want to see if some later locker on missiles etc. are worth using and I hope I'll get back my proper Burster AA MAX one day :pac:.

Air 2 Air missles are available via Cert unlock and are a pain in the hole for pilots (According to the pilots who whine on the Planetside 2 forums.) Currently they havent been unlocked by all but now Auraxium has been removed as the unlock for weapons and replaced by certs we should be seeing them more often.

Or once we can pay for them and people use mommy and daddy's credit card to unlock them.

There need to be proper infantry AA support though or the counter to planes is to bring more planes which is just as broken even if they become a bit better at it. I don't mind planes being agile, doing lots of damage but the fact they got a free reign in the air vs. everything except against airplanes (and some turrets as they all seems to have a big blindspot in the back/straight up) annoys me to no end...

If you asked me I'd say that there is no way the game is going to be ready on 20th Nov. And thats not just that it is as unbalanced as hell, but as far as I know, most of the top guns etc have not been tested in any way.

I'll log in and make a few characters and all, but will probably give it a while so the devs can fix all the crap thats broken and unbalanced.

Ok, dual Burster config MAX (42 CERT unlock if I remember correctly) can do serious damage to airplanes :D

on the other hand engies could mine spam entire roads/ key points in bases almost alone, granted those mines do squat compared to what they do in ps2, I'll agree though, there was alot of tactical ability lost.

The more I play the more I like the variety in altitude; it do add a great deal to the game play but I'm starting think the space between two bases (esp. the one cap base style mini respawn area and a big 5 point base) is to long. You end up with a long range slug fest (which can be fun or one sided depending if one side don't bother with vehicles of both kinds) but once the fight goes into the base that long distance is just, well, dead space. Cutting it down would help I think in terms of making the fighting more close and feeling closer to the front rather then slugging through dead area for a min or three.

    What have people tried?

Personally I've done the MAX AA unlock (42 cert) with MAX regen armor (1 point for 92 certs is enough so far) which is a golden combination. With the regen armor you can heal up from sniper shots etc. (it only kicks in ~15s after getting "out of combat", i.e. fired or firing and heal about a bar every 3s) and being AA you should be hanging back anyway. Can do some infantry damage if close and tickle tanks but risk running low on ammo quickly. If you buy 2 points in MAX cool down reducer (4 and 8 cert points each) the recharge on the suit is 7 min.

Got the cloak on infiltrator with 1 point in cloak regen; I see some use for setting up a sniper shot but still not sold.

Tonight I'm going to unlock a rocket launcher (most likey the lock on tanks as I don't see planes hanging around long enough to drop enough shots to kill them) and after that I'm tempted to try to get the minigun no the heavy as well (but 420 certs and the body is weak with getting new toys :( ). *edit* Got the ground rocket launcher; it has about 1s lock on timer and it works on turrets as well; can strongly recommend it (dumb fire if need as usual).

Another thing I want to look into further is assault infantry; I had some mad runs last night with it at a base going to spots not expected and killing people (ended up with a personal best of 6 kill streak with the final kill having to use my pistol as I ran out of ammo on my main gun!). Also had great fun with engy with either turret looking over a key assault point when defending and to run around repairing turrets & base items (free exp!).

I have to admitt the ability to switch class on the fly depending on situation is definitly growing on me; only thing I don't like so far is that who ever shots first wins 9 out of 10 times which means there's basically no reaction time (you die in less then 1s).

usually running about on the western server as VS, defending the crown on indar there can definatly be one of the more insane/intense fights you can get into, due to the sheer number of vehical's the that tend to be used in single battles there is just short of crazy. I've been part of organised tank columns with over 50 tanks, with full air and infantry support, and run into similar numbers on either TR or NC, sometimes both at the same time 0.o.

I like this game but they update so often (or did a while ago) that my measly 60gb limit from Digiweb just has no room for it.

    Such a shame.

It do need updates though; ghost enemies on the mini radar or corpses not dying (had a VS shown as crouching at a control point that drew a ton of fire from everyone running past until people realized they where not there per say). Also got the new sniper rifle last night, bolter action (i.e. reload after every shot) but oh so much more accurate. I still suck with it though due to the drop off at range :(

To be fair, it's still in beta. This is exactly what's supposed to happen.

Though i'd probably be annoyed with a 60gb limit as well :pac:

Yeah, infantry are far too squishy.... and can't do any damage at all to heavy armour

infantry can be tough aswell, try certing into nanoweave armor, As an engineer with 2 proxy mines, I've wiped out entire squads in small objective fights...and you know how crappy the engineers rifles are..

Go heavy assault and use the rocket; you need 5 to kill a Lightening (4 by stock) and a few heavy assault adds up very quickly for a tank.

Will have to try the nano weave (only got 1 point in it) later; so far I find myself spending most time in AA MAX or light assault zipping around killing their light assult/infiltrators my zergling team keep getting killed by from the flanks over and over again.

One thing about tank damage to keep in mind, is that, it is location based, 2-3 rockets in the back of magrider for example, will be a kill. A lightning will take over 50% damage from a single rocket if hit in the back.

Speaking as a tank driver, HA's are my bane.

Btw has anyone tried to mod the fury? I'm thinking of getting the hellfire one for AV duty (AI I got a gun for) but not sure if it is worth it (never seen anyone with any fury modification on any side :( ).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,274 ✭✭✭Monty - the one and only

I have an outfit mate that had the booster mod for it, he use to love trying to ram aircraft with it( with the aid of a hill )... something i used to love doing with the magrider :D

Btw for those of you pulling Sunderers please be aware you need to buy a 24 Cert to be able to deploy it (I was not aware :o ). I'm going to spec into my Sundy now further (got the deployment, 1p in repair (no more needed) and need 1 point in radar (don't care about lock time but showing up on minimap) and the two for vehicle repair and ammo replenishment) to see how well it can work. I've seen to many sundies parked close to a base that are not spotted that costs us a base not to try myself :P

Yes I'm scatter brained on what I'm trying :D

I'd not played in a while (3 weeks maybe?), and when I went to log in it looked like my chars were wiped. Not that Im complaining (beta and all), but was surprised there was no notice or anything, or any mention of it here. Happen anyone else? Might be user error though, and my chars are on a different server - cant recall if that was obvious or not.

There was a character wipe when they changed to cert based unlocking (~2 weeks ago) iirc.

There's actually been 2 wipes in the last 3 weeks... expect more, I've been playing since the early alpha tests and have had my chars wiped over 20 times so far... irksome as it maybe, its been nice to see how the game has evolved since then

I miss the flamers though; they were cut in PS1 (even though they did come back after oh 5 years!) and they are cut (so far) in PS 2 :(

I always wanted to replicate the NOD flame tank from C&C!
