Very encouraging win. We've lost games of that intensity before. Happy for Giroud, you could see how much it meant to him. I really want him to do well, he seems a very good bloke. On a personal note, the OH has given me double the reason to be happy: she has come up with tickets for the QPR game at the Emirates on the 27th...best birthday present ever!

    Marry that woman.

If we could only cut the defensive lapses out of our game we could be really challenging hard for the league. Ramsey was abysmal for the goal and Jenkinson was missing completely. I thought when West Ham went 1 up that puke football would prevail yet again and there was no way we could score but we took the game to them and got our just desserts. To be fair to Mert, he seems to be benefitting the most from Boulds coaching. He was very good tonight. He has obvious weaknesses. He lacks reaction and pace but in fairness he done little wrong in that game.

Santi Cazorla is one of the best players ive ever seen wear the Arsenal shirt. Delighted with both Giroud and Podolski also. Both class acts. Walcott should be played up front. On the wing he runs into cul de sacs but if he can beat the last man like tonight he is lethal. Gervinho has been doing well but had a quietish sort of game tonight.

Overall its hard not to have optimism but sometimes when you see the silly goals given away its like being stuck on groundhog day and it can get a little frustrating.

I am sober enough to think, when Theo has those one on one chances I am completely confident he will score.Maybe we should give him a shot.

Oh and fu*k you Allardyce.Right in your fat f*cking face.F*ck off you irons.Blow your bubbles up your arse.

    Ha ha ha brilliant :D

Yeah id agree re Walcott tbh. He has Henry's pace and has been at the club 6 and a half years. Time to try him up front.

Was watching via stream which was poor but can anyone tell me if Wenger and Allardyce shook hands?

I think Santos deserves a little run now too as Gibbs was poor. I also wish they would practice crossing. Look at the lovely ball Podolski put in for Giroud. Gibbs had about 10 crosses and not one of them hit one of our men. Our corners are poor too and often lead to the other team mounting quick counter attacks.

They shook before and after the game. All very buddy buddy.

I haven't checked this, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if we won more corners than any other Premier league team, and yet we never seem to do anything with them. Couldn't we spend some time in training working on clever moves or even on getting decent crosses into the pen.

Having got that off my chest, delighted with the win; as others have said its a tough place to go and get a result. The commentators on the stream I was watching spent the whole match raving about Carroll. So delighted it was Giroud who came up with the goods. And Cazorla is going to be such an important player for us this season.

Cazorla's corners are very very poor imo, every one of them was over hit.

I'm not one for stats and sj*t but corners are about as useful to us as a BBC radio job application.

Yeah they did. Very briefly and both avoided eye contact.

I have noticed that as well, perharps Arteta can take some of the corner kicks as well or they could even try and be more creative by passing it occassionally instead of direct kicks.

On the whole, the team played well today given the level of opposition and also considering we played away. I hope we continue to improve the defense and once the attackers click, we should be sound and at least get a trophy this season.

Ronnie Whelan on the Premiership praising Arsenal ???
I thought he was still sore about '89. Two blue moons !!!

Delighted for Giroud. Hopefully the first of many.

Cazorla's goal was a thing of beauty too.

As soon as the FT whistle went I turned it off. Usually know exactly what is coming when Ronnie is on talking crap as usual.

Santi has come early for Arsenal.

What a great goal and he is one of the best buys we've ever made. Cheaper than Reyes when we bough him 8 or 9 years ago.

    No No No.

The two big trophies are out of our reach frankly, we'll be fielding a second string team in the third and the fourth, the FA Cup will be contested between us, Utd, Liverpoo, City, Chelsea, Spurs etc.

You simply can't say 'we should get a trophy this season'. If we close the gap, we will compete more and if we continue to do that the trophies will eventually come.

Edit: sorry, don't mean to come across as an ar$ehole. Just getting the sense that people are beginning to think that no trophy this season = failure. IMO just close the gap, that's success.

That pass he made to Giroud late on was just sublime. And according to Opta Joe, he has scored more goals (9) from outside the box in 2012 than any other player in the top 5 European leagues. Hope to see a few more like that before the year is out :)

This is true - we need to get real here. 2nd in the league, for example, would be a massive achievement

Match of the Day there; John Motson:
"Cazorla is going to be nothing short of an Arsenal superstar. He's got the lot...............and he's 5 foot 6"

Anything can happen in cup competitions - so I'm predicting an FA Cup and a Champions League ... I mean if the Russians can fluke it then it's not beyond us ... still think the Russians will win the Premiership though, despite John Terry and FFL. Think we are still missing a few parts to win the Premiership.

Did anyone notice that neither MOTD nor PSS showed the Diame tackle that should have resulted in a second yellow?

Dont agree with that. Cant understand either why Mert isnt in the centre rather then at the near post. Ok Mert is tall to get to the near header but surely he'd be better more central to finish the corner? I honestly think Arsenal have never been smart enough about numbers with the corners over the years. Ok for years they were making a hames of the swing but i honestly think that Cazorla put in some decent corners today that landed just where you wanted them only there was no one there to attack the ball.

Talk about a bitter-sweet season. We beat Spurs with a wonder 'Ade-b*llocks' goal and drew 2-2 with United and then beat Chelsea near to Christmas 1-0. I remember at one stage in February we were 5 points ahead and then 'that game at Birmingham' occurred and we seemed to fall like a stone afterwards. Then came that heartbreaking champions league game v Liverpool where we were 2-2 and then were losing 4-2. A game ill never forget. We had Theo's mazy run and then a minute later we had the dodgiest of dodgy penalties given against us. A poor Liverpool side knocked us out of Europe.
Not so long after that i remember going on the Arsenal stadium tour with Charlie George. What a wonderful and memorable experience that was. One ill never forget. Even better then my first game in my opinion as here was Arsenals glorious past promoting Arsenal's present and future. Charlie is to Arsenal is what Jimmy Doyle is to Tipperary, Christy Ring to Cork, Jimmy Keaveney to Dublin or Eddie Keher to Kilkenny
Watching how promising Giroud was tonight i thought back to Eduardo and how he was robbed from being at the very top of his game due to a reckless challenge. Now Eduardo was just unlucky at the time in fairness but i would hope our present players are not chopped down for the sake of stopping them play

Fair point but the the Premier league was completely different then. Wenger's knowledge of French talent and his management skills and scientific approach gave him a huge advantage over our competitors. That advantage has gone now as his methods have been copied and the money available for City and Chelsea combined with Fergies' longevity means that top 4 is all we are likely to reach unless our financial model changes.
