Anyone see E.X. Troopers from Capcom? It's a spin off of Lost Planet but unlike all the Lost Planet games this doesn't look utter crap. Apparently they made it after canabalising the Mega Man Legends project (I'll never forgive you capcom).

No sign of a western release surprise, surprise.

Crap soundtrack aside, that looks really nice. I see it's a 3DS release too.

No, no, no! That's only if you play it on easy, if you play it on normal and reach a certain score limit, you get an additional last two bosses.
    And they are the in-laws.

There is additional content as well, when the kids come along, turns into a survival horror!
I hear the kids is actually really expensive DLC but it has years worth of dodgy gameplay.

You don't get any extra lives either.

The one thing the Lost Planet games did not do was look crap.
Nope, they had some great use of the colour palette.
Of course that did much to hide the fact that they made some really weird gameplay decisions with that franchise, with non traditonal controls for a third person shooter in the first game and in the second, a really odd mission structure.

That said, I played the second one to completion and really enjoyed it, once I got past the idiosyncrasies of the title.

Tell me, you didn't just say that. Well, the upcoming third one, maybe, but the first two were not crap at all. In fact, I'm planning on getting the PC versions of them whenever I get a rig.

Sigh. I just wish people would get over this already. I mean, I know it was a stupid decision, but the whole fan outcry is almost as irritating as the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle.

I liked the non traditional controls that the game had to offer. Makes the whole game seem unhomogenised. Plus I loved the online, what with being able to control the VS's and all that.

Anyone been to Montpellier and know of any retro shops, good arcades or anything like that?
Heading over for a couple of days next week and I've never been before.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. The first game was pretty terrible, one of those early adopter games that got far more praise than it deserves. If it was released when any decent games were on the 360 it would have been shunned. The second game felt like Monster Hunter with guns and I hate monster hunter.
Sigh. I just wish people would get over this already. I mean, I know it was a stupid decision, but the whole fan outcry is almost as irritating as the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle.

I think the fan outcry is a bit more warranted compared to the stupifying Mass Effect 3 nonsense. When Capcom ask the fan community for help in making the game and get loads of help from them only to cancel the game and blame the fan community for it you should expect anger. If they could be truthful about it it wouldn't be so frustrating but blaming the fans is just ridiculous especially after the hard work they put in.

Also have you played the Legends games? They are amazing and the trailers looked just as good. The first game in the series did stuff that Ocarina of Time got praised for long before Ocarina of time. Now this trailer comes out and it looks just like a Legends game and it looks great, really shows what could have been.

Don't get your hopes up. I was there a few years ago and didn't see anything. However I wasn't there for retrogames, I was doing research and when I wasn't doing that I was strolling around the gorgeous medieval quarter and getting confused by the fact that they also have a luas.

Yeah, I do get that the outcry is much more justified compared to the annoyance that was Mass Effect 3's ending, but it does still get on my nerves quite a bit, hearing it whenever it comes up.

And no, I haven't played the Mega Man Legends games. Hell, I haven't really played anything Mega Man related, save for the MM9 demo on PSN. So yeah, lynch me.

Cheers, does their luas do retro game review vids as well but in a French accent and then change their name to something else but his forum buddies will always think of him as luas? :D
I'll check the place out and see if I can find any arcades at least. I'm also going over to do research, in my own sort of way.

On a completely different note I see Adafruit are using my video to advertise the Pibow case for the Raspberry Pi .
I wonder will they be sending my cut of the profits by cheque or bank transfer :0/

Having the fun over on the regular games forum.
Seems there are those who would feel that as soon as a new game in a genre is released everything that went before is irrelevant and we should learn to "move on", as one user put it.

It is also felt that the just released Borderlands 2 is inevitably superior to past offerings like Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and maybe even Borderlands 1, who knows!!

Please pay a visit and express your own opinions, please.

And to any visitors from that thread /forum, welcome to Arcade & Retro!
Prepare to have your mind both opened and then blown!

There is truly mad opinions out there, and not just the obvious ones evangelising about Boulder Dash, oh no, and they are only a few clicks away!

Flavour of the month bull**** in all honesty. I thought Skyrim was the best game ever a few months ago.

While I agree with the sentiments of posters here in the other thread, I quite like the look of Borderlands 2, both literally and figuratively. I'd bet there are far better sticks to beat their arguments with than that game. Damn mainstream-hating hipsters :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭CosmicSmash

I wouldn't even get involved with them philistines. If it wasn't for the generations of games that came before them they wouldn't be playing the games of today, nice graphics may enhance a good game but graphics alone do not make the game good.

Isn't that how mainstream games are rated these days, no?

Bah. Any definition of mainstream that excludes Minecraft and Farmville isn't that useful a definition.

Can't say I enjoyed Bonderlands... don't understand the hype about Bonderlands 2 at all. It doesn't look radically different.

I'm starting to lose a lot of faith in the direction games are moving in myself. I don't know if is it that publishers don't want to take the risk anymore, they seem happy to churn out the same game year after year whether it be Fifa or Halo etc and milk these cash cows to death. But why would they stop when the masses keep buying them.

I also intend to give Borderlands a go somewhere along the line, I'm intrigued by what I'm hearing about it. Although I'm currently playing most non-digital games after around a 6-12 month delay due to monetary restrictions :pac:

It's more the 'old vs new' argument that is so absolutely ridiculous. Kinda wasting my time and bandwidth on some of the replies, but some statements being made are so ludicrous they can't be allowed to be the last word

Jesus all this talk of comparing Borderlands 2 to classic games. I mean it might be a classic (I doubt it) but the game has been out a day and it's being held up as something amazing.

The Games industry today is like the Music industry. Whatever new scutter comes along is nearly always automatically 'amazing' because people think it hasn't been done before, but quite often it has...& often far better done before too.

    People = despair sometimes

It's very much the flavour of the month. Over on the gaming section of Reddit every second submission is about it. Last week everything was Black Mesa... I can't even remember what it was the week before that.

Everyone should be talking about FTL instead. That's a brand new game that's a huge amount of fun. Doesn't have 3D graphics or multiplayer though so I guess I'm wrong about enjoying it.

I installed Borderlands 2 on the PC the other day and played for a little while. I don't see why everyone is saying its so great! It's decent I guess and the graphics look well on the PC but I wouldn't really be singing its praising from the rooftops or anything.
Maybe I need to play it more?

I actually only just bought Borderlands yesterday, but I don't plan on playing the game until I get all the trophies from the first one.
