As much as I like new tech I can't help but whimper to myself every time something new comes out. Whether it be a GPU, CPU etc. I honestly think getting into pc's was a bad idea. I'm unable to save money. What started out as a 1K build max has turned into a hole where I can go to throw cash that's been in my wallet all of an hour.:(

Dont chase the bleeding edge - get to where you're happy and leave it a that. Apart from some fans I wont be spending money on my rig for at least a year.

You're going to be 100000000% GPU bottlenecked at that resolution, you could run it off a G530 and get near enough the same framerate as a 3960x.

devil13 has always been powercolors 'premium' brand, so don't expect it to be reasonable money (for a 7990). I'm betting $950/ €950.

anyone notice the big button by the display outputs?

    I get new RAM there recently - G-Skill Ares DDR3 1600MHz 8GB.

When I boot up, in the first screen where it lists off your HDDs and your RAM it says my RAM is at 1333MHz.

It probably makes almost no difference and I'm curious as much as anything, but does anyone know why it's doing that?

    MOBO: Gigabyte P55A-UD4

sometimes motherboards do strange things. my old g.skill ripjawX 1600Mhz defaulted to 1333 @11-11-11 timings with my old motherboard.

just go into the bios and change it, its no big deal.

    Probably the BIOS switch.

Guys what voltage should a DDR3 ram run at ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,224 ✭✭✭Procrastastudy

    1.35 or 1.5 or 1.65 - mostly 1.5

When I boot my computer the Marvell controller thing pops up and says no hard drive detected, then it kinda reboots and tries the Intel one (that I am using). Takes 3-4 seconds and I'd like to be rid of it.
    Can it be done?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

disable the controller in the bios. I think it may be under 'storage configuration' in the advanced settings.

I honestly can't help it.Its like some sort of disease. Its the same with bike. I can't even look at the new Trek Madone 7. I can't be left alone with money. Girlfriend usually helps out there.

I went into the BIOS and there was a setting, XMP something or other. I changed that to "profile1" and it changed the memory speed to 1600Mhz.

    So far so good.
Then I booted up and after about 5 minutes the computer just turned off. It's literally never done that before.
Tried to boot up again (after having disabled the setting in the BIOS - the memory f stayed at 1600 Mhz.
When I logged into windows it turned off again.

    Any ideas?

I ****ing hate that heap of ****e of a computer. It's been nothing but trouble since the day I built it. I'd love nothing more than to f*ck the whole lot into the bin. And burn the bin. And fire the bin into the sun.

Suggestion no1 - start or use your original thread - stuff gets lost in here.

Suggestion no2 - have someone have a look at it. Where are you?

I would personaly avoid the sapphire 7850. I had it and and the card I got had a major flaw - the card would make a grinding noise when the fan was at 50-70%! This is not an isolated Innocent by any means, a few other customer reviews mention this flaw.

I just got the asus 7850 and it seems pretty much rock solid. If you order off dabs, you can get a free copy of dirt showdown (redeemable on steam) and according to some reviews, its supposedly a great overclocker. It works out cheaper as well (235€ with free shipping)

Strange thats the first complaint Ive heard. The reviews are glowing. I dont know what to do now. Graphics cards are particularly hard to decide on!

I managed to stop the freeze from re-occuring.

I'm not sure what I did but I increased GPU fan to decrease the heat and also increased he ram voltage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

It might be no harm to run memtest (www.memtest.org) booted from a USB or disc to make sure that it's fully stable now.

sounds like you originally set the voltage to 1.5v when it was a 1.65v kit. if you look at the sticker on the side of the RAM stick it'll tell you the speed, timings, and voltage its designed to run at.

if you're ever in Limerick I could take a look at it for you.
