Hey guys, while im delighted with my new MSI 660ti and seeing a huge performance boost over my old hd 6950 im kind of wondering if i should have gone with a 7950 incase i decided to buy of those high res korean monitors?
While i understand the 7950 would be better at such high res will my 660ti do a sufficient job?

Ill scour the net later on for benchmarks, just wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

Edit : Benchmarks from Tomshardware and a few more suggest it will be fine
See my post in the Sapphire 7950 thread.

Btw Tom's hardware aren't exactly a reputable review site...

Which one are you talking about? The Catleap 1440p or that 4k one that hasn't been released yet? 660ti should be more than capable of running on a catleap, AA will prob have to be turned off though. Scroll down to the 2560x1600 result

    EDIT: Didn't see E's post.

Fair enough, it'd be awesome, but surely it'd cost about the same as a computer by itself!?
Can any card run at 4k?

660ti should not have problems to run catleap m8. It is 2gb version thought?

Any more updates on that new dell 27" 1440p version of 2711?

Do you mean the 2713HM? It's only on Dell's Japanese and Australian sites so far:

    http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs&sku=210-40773&redirect=1

At $800 AUD, it's currently priced more than the 2711 sells for in Australia as well but I thought it was meant to be a cheaper model?

Wtf? It had to be a cheaper version of ups panel like 2312hm and 2412hm....
Idiots... I was looking forward to it :(

Yeah its the 2GB version, benchmarks on 5-6 sites suggest its a tad slower than the 7950 @ 1440p on some games and faster on some, the thing about benchmarks people can get bogged down with the difference of 5-7 fps,the difference is marginal.

Yeah, so was I - my attempts to buy a Catleap are not going too well...

    Maybe consider one of these.

well, i do have 3 monitor setup and i was planing on buying third 2312hm to finish it off perfectly, but by the looks of it 3 monitor gaming is not my cup of tea so far...
So my next step would be getting 2713hm as a main monitor and keep 2x2312hm's as side monitors. though with that prices they can **** off...

Thanks but every single one of those is out of stock too - same deal as the Catleap apparently.

Might consider the 2711 after all, though it seems like it would still work out almost 50% more expensive than any of the Korean monitors... Just feels like a waste using a GTX 680 at 1920x1200 so was looking to move up to a 27"...

What put you off Shadow - didn't suit me either.

What put you off Shadow - didn't suit me either.

well first of all. i love having my media player with movie/south park/family guy/father ted/top gear on one of the screens. then ventrilo, browser on other screen. ( anything that i need to grab info fast )
other thing is that i dont want to play all games on 3 monitors ( a lot of them dont work too ). so when you play only 1080p it shut downs other two monitors...
Drivers and all software side. Nvidia and their stupid polarity requirement. i needed to trick the fecking thing by forcing 2312hm drivers on old 1080p monitor so it would do native resolution on 3 screens.
Every single time i restart i needed to do a setup again to get it native resolution, which ment that after each restart my desktop was all over the place.

i have to admit that TDU2 on 3 monitors is sexy. Shogun 2 is more then sexy with 5.1 system. though after 60++ fps in Bf3 i could not go to 30-40ish even with lowered settings.

Dunno, i might sort out the third monitor and software issues might be gone. all i will need is g27 then. then again same monitors can come with different polarities so having 3x2312hm might not even solve the problem.

i regret more and more by going nvidia way.

Haven't heard of them. I wonder if they manufacture themselves or if the bulk of the drive comes from someone else.

    Freeze-

Is it one particular program or more than one?

You might just need a reinstall.

damit, its all programs. Espcally when I use 2 programs at once.
How do I perform a re install and at the same time wipe out old files ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Oh well I was thinking more if it was just one program that was faulty, that you could uninstall and reinstall that program.

Since it's several programs, it points at something bigger.

Could be RAM. Did you get a new module in there? Try reducing it to just 2x2GB. Try to use the layout that the motherboard says for dual channel. You can't use dual channel if you've got an odd pair (i.e., a 2GB stick and a 4GB stick). Not having dual channel won't make a massive difference in many circumstances, but it's nevertheless a good idea to go for matching pairs to reduce possible problems. I'd question as to whether you really need 10GB!

Al the rams run at 1333MHz, woulld it be caused y overheating ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Overheating in the GPU can cause freezing. Overheating in the CPU usually just causes shutdowns, or reduction of clock speed.

The GPU would be more likely to get overheated if it was running stressful graphics - but you just said "programs" which would point towards the RAM. Unless it's a driver problem of some sort. But if you recently installed RAM, that would be the first thing I'd check.

Edit: Very unlikely to be overheating in RAM. DDR3 just doesn't get that hot.

As its a new build I only said programs it cold be games as well but theres nothing on my pc to test it as the freeze will occur. I've tried using 2 x 2gb and its still the same.

Its taking ages to boot/stuck at the black screen of death.

And yes the ram was very hot. SO I switched the pc off to cool down.

HD7000 price drops have hit HWVS. custom cooled Gigabyte for €306, and the popular Sapphire 950Mhz edition at €316, down from 345, sealing the deal of 7950>660Ti.

computeruniverse.net has the Sapphire at €308 and is €12 delivery!

I would reset your CMOS and try again.

Could be some dodgy setting in the UEFI.
