Got sick of waiting for Vodafone to upgrade the firmware so decided to root and install charmeleon rom. It's based on the latest 1.29 firmware and very customisable. Happy so far, seems to give better wifi and 3g performance as well, haven't had it long enough to comment on battery

i have a htc, got it unlocked, im with meteor and im trying to download the settings so i can use the internet, when i log on to my meteor account it says this is my phone and just choose from the drop down menu to select the settings you want to download, only mine does not give me any options, does anybody know what i should be putting in to set up a new APN??

This is what im trying to figure out (sorry im not very tech minding) this is what i have in front of me when i try to add a new APN, im not sure if i need all this but a friend said i do....any help appreciated

    Name
    APN
    Proxy
    Port
    Username
    Password
    Server
    MMSC
    MMS proxy
    MMS port
all the above have not set under them so i can change them, then it has these

    MMS protocol
    WAP 2.0

    MCC
    272

    MNC
    03

    APN type
    (not set)

EDIT - sorry it is an HTC hero i have (I know the old one) but im only getting used to this now, maybe thats why meteor dont have the codes ready to download, would still like any options for the info before i have to go myself into the shop and look like a person who knows nothing :)

Anyone know how to stop the onscreen menu popping up on the stock browser?

Have a new found respect for Gorilla Glass. Had the phone for a month without a screen protector, 2 or 3 small scratches. Put on a screen protector on Tuesday, now it's almost completely covered in scratches.

I switched on my phone this morning as normal and within 5 minutes the phone was vibratiing and the screen was having a "fit" as if the home button was being repeatly being pressed like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEKwMkuisqE Ive been in touch with HTC and they are unaware of the issue and Meteor have to get back to me about it being sent away.
Ive found these links from differant service providers with the same issue.

I have updated the phone software to 1.78.401.2 and also reset the phone but the same problem.
Has anyone any come across this problem??

not so far, but only had it a couple of days now.

Really liking it so far anyway, very happy and likewise for the wife one s if I could figure out how to get the keyboard to drop off the bottom of the screen so I can see what I'm doing like I used to be able to with a long press of that button at the bottom that isn't there any more on ics devices. :(

There's a button on screen bottom left with a picture of a keyboard gets rid of it.

    there's my problem. :)

i'm using Swype and it doesn't have that key on their keyboard.

I've been doing some testing though and the bottom left soft key below the screen with the < (that is normally the back button) minimises the on-screen keyboard if it is up, before it will function as the back key, so i'm all good.

how is everyone doing with power drain on the one x?

i'm idling in standby at around -12mW draw with the screen off, no data or wifi etc. (not rooted yet, stock ROM v1.29).

i'm wondering if i could do better with a 2rd party ROM as I was able to get my Desire HD down to -4mW with a little tweaking using the virtuous rom.

I noticed that there's 5 little holes with contact points in them on the back of the one x and it looks like it's for use with the official media dock for the one x and from the info on it, it says you can also use it to sync and charge the phone whilst it is in the media dock, which seems like a great idea to me given the (historically) sometimes fragile nature of micro usb.

so why the flying feck is it that this one device seems to be the only thing on the planet that makes use of these connections on the back of the phone?

even the official htc car dock uses a micro usb connection in the bottom rather than taking advantage of these new connections on the back of the phone.

how much easier would it be if you could just slot your phone into your car kit (or any other cradle) and have it automatically charging (and syncing if connected to a pc) without having to fiddle with plugging in a micro usb cable as well?

what's the point of including it in the phone if you're not even going to make use of it in 99% of the available accessories that could use it?

i'd also like to see a car kit where they actually acknowledge that most people will be using some kind of protective case for their expensive smartphone.

    /rant over. :D

They are called pogo pins and yep, you can use them for syncing and charging from a compatible dock or case.

I've got one of these on order http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320924429274?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Hoping that it can hold a charge and be of some use!

Mine is back with HTC, been with them for repair for a couple of weeks at this stage.

Going on what people have been reporting on the XDA thread most of the handsets affected so far have serial numbers ht23 & ht24. There are a few reports of others but they aren't confirmed and don't seem to be widespread. Unless HTC state which ones are affected I don't think we'll really know the full extent of the problem.

Just to be aware that there is a known hardware issue with the wifi antenna and if it turns up on yours it will have to be returned for repair. Hopefully it won't and you'll be grand.

Decided to ditch the Sensation and get myself a One X. Got one for €400 from Adverts and so far i'm very impressed.

Biggest plus so far is battery. I'd rooted my Sensation and was running a Custom ROM in order to improve the battery life on it and it did improve considerably. I haven't rooted the One X yet but the battery life is excellent so far, much better than the Sensation. I haven't had one Sense restart yet and the phone has performed flawlessly so far.

The screen looks spectacular and the camera is top notch. Been testing out burst mode and it works perfectly,a great addition by HTC. It's easily the best phone i've owned so far,so good that i haven't even contemplated putting a Custom ROM on it. I will root it though, there's an annoying o2 splash screen on start up that i want to get rid of.

I've been following this thread since the One X was first announced and went with the silicon case that was recommended by many posters and it does look really well and makes gripping the phone much easier.:)

Got my hands on a One X yesterday and had a good mess about with it for 15 minutes.
I was curious to see how it performed after my wife got a new One V ,it is painfully slow compared to my HTC Radar WP, different OS ofcourse but i thought the One X would have atleast being as quick but i was surprised it felt sluggish compared to the radar.

yeah, looks good. don't forget to give us a review when you get it. :)

i'd still like to know why more accessories don't take advantage of them though? it's a great idea, so why not make the most of it?

Just for anyone thinking of the official car dock...I got it a few weeks ago and have to say its the best car dock I've ever had.
Can't believe how easily it slides in and out. The micro usb connection seems to be slightly slanted/smaller so the phone just slides on to it as if its not there. Great really as it was my main worry when I got it.

I like the way it automatically goes into or out of car dock mode when you put it in/out and automatically turns bluetooth on or off aswell.

I don't have a skin or case so can't comment on how it would fit with one on.

I have the official car dock for my nexus one and it uses the pogo pins, can't see why the newer ones can't use them too....

Got myself a One S there recently. Beautiful phone- lovely size, lovely weight, and it handles anything you can throw at it with ease.
Only thing that has pissed me off is these scratches on the back that appear out of nowhere by just keeping it in your pocket (not next to keys or anything). Really need a cover- any suggestions?

Just got a One S yesterday. Love the phone but I dont seem to be able to connect to any mobile data.
Its an unlocked but vodafone branded handset and I am using a 3 payg sim. Should that make any difference?

Any ideas as to what the problem could be. Its the same sim I was using in my samsung galaxy europa just cut to size and it worked fine in it.

Have you changed the APN settings to suit the Three network?

Go to Settings» Mobile networks » Access Point Names (APN).
Then select "Add new APN" and enter the following details:

    APN: 3ireland.ie

    Excellent. That worked a treat.

Didn't realise that it needed to be set up like that. I normally buy from a shop and it just works out of the box.

    Thanks Stevo!

I have a spare back cover if ya want it. It won't protect the camera lens, but it will stop the rest of the phone cover being scratched.

They do have the leather flip covers available now tho for it. Very tidy and even with the phone in it, it's not even an inch high. Might be the way to go, it you want to protect the camera lens too.
