Does anywhere in Ireland sell this case? Komplett only offer the meshed but I probably could make a window but that would be a hassle.
Also what do people think of this case?

    Eboggles,

If you could stretch your budget by 70-90, you could pick up a Zotac 670 4GB or EVGA 670 4GB respectively?

Dudes, how do you capture a BSOD? I remember someone on some thread in the last few months saying there was a key you cold hit to keep the screen up before it automatically but can't for the life of me remember!

If you've read the Yamakasi Catleap thread you know I'm getting a new monitor, but my 6850 I feel won't cope very well with the resolution. So, I need a new graphics card. My budget is around €350-400.

These are what I had in mind:

    Gigabyte 7870 - €334 delivered

    EVGA GTX 670 - €380 delivered

    Powercolor 7950 PCS+ - €386 delivered

Bear in mind I will be overclocking and voltage tweaking whatever card I get. I'm leaning towards the GTX 670 as it's a monster GPU. However, I feel the 2GB might be a bottleneck at this resolution, and as I am dropping nearly €400 I want it to be fairly future-proof. I have the 7870 in there because it seems to be a great overclocker, despite the 2GB VRAM and is a good bit cheaper than the others. The 7950 is a good bit worse than the GTX 670 but the PCS+ model is virtually silent (28db at load!), runs very cool and can overclock brilliantly. In the TPU review they get a 22% core overclock and 42% memory at stock volts.

I won't be getting it for a few weeks, as I have to let my wallet recover after the monitor, but I don't think there are any cards being released in that price bracket soon. The only change I can see happening is a price drop by either company, but I doubt that.

Any ideas? I'm just using hardwarevsand so I can measure all the cards against each other from one retailer, but if someone else is offering it cheaper I'll go with them.

    True story, a friends 4870 1GB runs Diablo 3 on high with +30FPS on a 1440 monitor.

Advanced System Settings -> Startup and Recovery -> Untick Automatically Restart

Also if you check your minidump folder you'll find dump files with much more useful information than just the BSOD code.

Isn't there a way to catch it with software?
I was always under the impression unticking auto restart was a bad idea, I can't for the life of me remember why though, it might be an old wives tale, or should that be an old nerdy wives tale.

Woohoo, I'm offically overclocked and stable (fingers crossed) on my new AsRock Z77 and i5-3570k! This was my first time overclocking so happy with the result. After a bit of confusion it wasn't too difficult. Would defo recommend it to anyone sitting on the fense regarding OCing their chip!

    I have 4.5ghz @ 1.256v. Max temp 70 - 75 - 79 - 71°C cooled by Corsair H100 on lowest setting.
Stressed on Prime 95, 12 hours custom blend 95% ram incl.

for next time, its much faster to test an OC with 25 passes on Max settings in Intel Burn Test, then an hour or 2 of gaming.

I love the storm trooper, I plan on getting it, but the white one will be going on sale soon (officially going to revealed on the 19th) so I'm wating for that.

You can't buy the black one with a window already on it, but what you can do is buy the storm trooper of Kompletts, and then buy the window side panel of the european coolermaster store for an extra 20euro.

The white one comes with the window already on it so thats another reason why I'm waiting.

Duly noted dude! Gonna get stuck into some gaming tomorrow and take it for a spin! Next stop, OCing HD7850 :D

I'd say that's great craic altogether ;). My 6850 was a blast and that wasn't even 1ghz.I feel tempted to push the ghz margin on my card but as it is a stock card the temps would just be too (damn) high.

I'm probably going to get hated on for this but I hate white cases......
and I've decided on getting the HAF X, then at christmas upgrading to good and doing a custom water loop.

I personally am not a huge fan of the HAF series, none of them appeal to me that much.

So I just watched TTL's video on the new gun-metal grey 600T...

    I hate that man.

Now I'm debating (again!) between a high-end laptop and a complete desktop rebuild. I could make a very nice rig in that case... sleeved black tubing, gold fittings, ASRock Z77 board.... I hate that man.

    Also: Youtube screenshot = Win.

try for the magic 50% overclock, although i've heard of very few chips that can reach it.

I pretty sure there's a lot of messing involved, like uninstalling CCC, using some ASUS overclock tool, and wouldn't the temps be bad? I remember reading a thread on the OcUK forums about it.

After that youtube image hit the front page of Reddit, lots of people found his profile page and started laughing at him. This was his response, no joke.
People call me ignorant :/ I've worked in gaming for 15 years.I used to work for id software so I'm not computer illiterate. What I was trying to get across was that, despite what the PC elitists may think, the xbox360 handles itself pretty well. It's hardware components are regularly updated through xbox live. If you look at the graphics of Oblivion compared to Skyrim you will no doubt see a massive graphical improvement. Many think this is due to developers becoming accustomed to the hardware, but it's in fact due to the "Interdynamic uploading, updating, upscaling update" that they dish out on LIVE every so often. Now this may be known in different terms around the internet, but it's function is the same. The xbox that sits under your TV today is just slightly inferior to a GTX 680 and amazingly now the xbox holds 4 gig of RAM!!
Do any of you guys know about the unreal 3 engine demo? This is a game called Samaritan: Twitch. It's running on the Unreal 3 engine. This engine will be fully supported by the xbox 360 and ps3. Some high end gaming rigs might be able to run this but you'll need to update your RAM and graphics cards to something on par with the 360, since the 360 runs on the Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 with 10gb of RAM Anyway, It looks amazing. Can't wait.

After reading the second one me thinks troll.

Looks like these new Xbox Live updates have made their way to our feeble PCs. Download more RAM here

10GB of RAM? I dunno if that's a troll - You've been able to download more RAM for ages now:

This works, I just tried it and I think it allows you to use more than 4GB on a 32-bit system too ... amazing :P

Not that much bother. Just when installing the drivers don't install CCC. Then install asus gpu tweak and enable advanced mode. If you can get your card to the 50% you may face some heat problems but anything up to 1200mhz the temps stay fairly similar to stock at load. Anything after that the temps start to get slightly high but i've never gone over 70.

aw god, it's a load of bullshit. I have a cable running underneath my graphics card and over the entire mobo, looking ridiculous because the cable from the PSU was like 2/3cm too short to fit around the back.

Also, I have about a half million molex connectors clogging up the cable ducts because I didn't get a modular PSU.

Lads, wondering if you could help me with something. I done a format of my pc this evening, and when I try and install the drivers from my as rock z68 pro 3 cd and do a restart it keeps asking "Do you want
to generate Serial ATA driver diskette [YN]?"
No matter what I reply it just restarts and goes to same question.
I ended up taking out disc and going back to windows, and everything seems fine, but any idea whats causing this?

My ssd is the main boot drive, I disconnected other hardrives whille installing windows and I had ahci mode enabled. This didnt happen before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,584 ✭✭✭Pangea

Think I have it sorted now, I think it was trying to boot from the cd, and not from the ssd.
I changed the ssd to number 1 now in the boot order. Not sure if that was the problem or not but dont seem to have the issue now.

^^^ You need to take the disc out before you restart.

It's really stupid, especially if you do it 1 by 1 like it says to do it.
