Yeah check the CPU load when its overheating. Check to see if hair/dust/dirt is clogging up your fans, or if anything else is restricting airflow. Open the side of your case to see if that lowers temps, as that would definitely indicate an airflow problem. If that doesn't help the problem is likely with your CPU fan. Check that its not running slow, or that it hasn't been knocked loose or something.

Opened up the case there, there is very little dust inside.
Leaving the side panel off wouldn't cause any problems would it?
After it being off for 10mins whilst I was looking inside for dust or anything clogging the mesh I turned it on and checked the temps straight away and it was running a steady 41.

Its possible that the CPU fan could be knocked out slightly, I do tend to move it around quite a lot. CPU fan speed is set to auto I think, its running around 1000RPM atm.

Leaving it off could potentially disrupt the airflow and increase your temperatures. Long term you could expect more dust. However, with a big decrease like that, it sounds like something's wrong. Are all your fans the right way around? Generally, most people go for intake at bottom front with air blowing out the top and back.

Well I have not touched a single component since I bought it except for installing a hard drive, and up until about a week or two ago I was getting temperatures of 25 idle, and 50 under load.
The cable management isn't great, my case is a bitfenix marc so there is nowhere to put the cables but none are blocking any fans, and none are near the CPU or GPU fans.
I plan on buying a new case when I get money, but with no job its hard to get money.

Just check the direction of the fans anyway. Easy way is to put a piece of paper next to them.
It could be the heatsink that's loose as you said.

Maybe you just need an extra fan in there.

I've only gotten stuff on a Saturday once, out of probably over a hundred orders. Not really sure what the how/when/why is.

My stuff arrived from HWVS on a Saturday but that was in the run up to Christmas. I think they'll only do Saturday deliveries at busy times.

I was at an expo yesterday and they had an i5 build on display at a go-karting stand. They had GTR Evolution set up on eyefinity. Would have been impressed but the graphics settings and draw distance was set to low :P

Right, after playing weeks of Skyrim since release date (actually months), then moving on to Tribes: Ascend, then playing a bit of Rome: Total War again (with mods) I'm not sure what to play next. I really would like something along the lines of an RPG (not KoA, that's ****e IMO) or a good shooter. The Witcher 2 caught my eye, anyone care to share their feelings about the game? Or any other game I should sink some time into.

By the way, I already have BF3, RAGE, Arkham City and Crysis 1+2.

Not sure if it will interest you but the new DayZ mod for Arma 2 is amazing.
There is a good 10 of at least who play it each night from boards, its basically a free roam survival zombie game with full medical, food, drink system. You have to collect weapons and ammo by going from town to town and exploring buildings. Its multiplayer with 50 people on a sever (we even set up a boards server) and you can either choose to trust people you meet or shoot them on sight and take all their goodies. Really fun and addicting game.

Only €15 on Steam as well, nice one! I read a few PC Gamer articles about it and it looks great, I presume it works with steam as well, yeah?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Fallout 3. Or new vegas. Shooter + RPG.
If you want a shorter one that's not a huge time sink, I'm playing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Not really extensive RPG traits but it's kind of fun with the combat (mostly involving kicking people into spikes and off of cliffs). It's a little older so you can find it cheap. I think I got if for €2.50 in the last steam sale. Actually there should be another sale next month if other years are a basis to go by.

Played Fallout 3 and NV on PS3 about 2 years ago, can't bring myself to play them again. I'll have a look at Dark Messiah now, seems fun :D.

You actually need both the Arma 2 games to play it, Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. You can get the two of them in a bundle for 25euro on steam, thats how I bought it.

all the non wearing uses of womens tights. stretch them over a hanger and place in front of a microphone for a pop stopper, so your friends don't get sudden pops and sssss's when you play.
