Don't be afraid if it takes a few months for Munster to bring about stylistic changes. Don't give up if there is pain for the first few months.

It happened in Schmidt's opening few weeks and the change in style was not as drastic as what is needed at Munster, but I am certainly willing to put up with some pain to allow for future improvement.

Jesus we'll be subjected to screaming every week, that guy would never shut the **** up roaring on the touchline when at Racing.

Anyway his dismissal from Racing was the start of the player revolt there, so he clearly was very popular with the players.

Has Jason Holland been released or is he being moved to a new role with the setup?

You'd have to imagine Penney was involved, based purely on his nationality.

Looks a lot like Shane Warne

TBH I don't know much about Mannix.

He coached Racing Metro and thats the extent of my knowledge.

Anyone know why he was fired from Racing Metro?

The team was underperforming and Mannix was probably blamed by Lorenzetti, the owner of Racing.

However the players freaked out when he was sacked and eventually it culminated in Chabal leaving the club after falling out with Berbizier, the head coach. Apparently Chabal was one of the leaders of a player revolt against Berbizier.

good to see penney's comments on the style of play :)i've felt for a while now that ,that type of game has been left behind a bit as its not using enough players /field and options .ie too predictable hopefully it wont take too long to get things moving in the right direction and catch back up

Sounds like Mannix could be Munsters version of David Knox. Lots of similarities there.

I don't know much about him, was Racing's back play particularly good when he was with them??

At least he looks to be an appointment that Penney made, a person he obviously wanted to have around so that's good.

As for the style of play thing... obviously we need to start using our backs more, we've got plenty of talent there but I don't think we should completely abandon the "Munster way" either. I'm sure we won't, a blend of strong forward play and exciting back play is the way to succeed, as exemplified by Leinster.

i always thought Racing were a boring 10 man rugby team, outhalf kicked or took DG's at every opportunity. Last season they scored very few trys.

Leinster have the players to play the way they do. Sure Munster need to evolve but not sure they have the players to do it overnight

I think they do, maybe not to the same level as Leinster immediately, but they have perfectly capable existing and up-and-coming players.

    Tim Ryan joins Dragons.
Tim Ryan joins the Dragons with an impressive CV and can boast European heavyweights Munster and Toulon amongst his former sides.

A strong scrummager, the former Ireland Under 19 international rose through the Munster ranks under the wing of Irish Test veteran John Hayes. Ryan, who made the switch from back row to prop relatively late in his career, is also renowned for top quality ball handling skills and as a pacy running threat around the park.

Tim started for Munster in their tour match against the All Blacks at Thomand Park in 2008 and racked up 14 appearances in the first team for Munster before being signed up by big spending Top14 side Toulon for the 2009/2010 season.

Tim played a big part in Toulon's run to the 2010 Amlin Challenge Cup final, playing in 8 of their 9 games including a substitute appearance in the final, which they lost to Cardiff Blues.

Ryan has since spent a season each with Newcastle Falcons and, last season, I Cavalieri Prato where he started both games against the Dragons in their Amlin Challenge Cup Pool.

Well depending on gametime, he has the possiblity of being on the showcase for the Irish provinces in 8 Rabo games next season, it may lead to an opportunity to return to Ireland especially taking into account the NIQ rules.

Botha will be gone in 2 years probably, when Ryan will be out of contract. He's only 28 next week so still young for a prop. If he can prove himself at the Dragons, I wouldn't be surprised to see Munster calling.
