It's a hub, so they do, but they're PnP.

I own the dell u2312HM monitor and the driver disk contains the power saving software only (enable "ENERGY SMART" on the OSD if you want to use this)
As posted above, the USB ports are a hub and do not require additional drivers to use.

I would agree that the dell monitor is great (colours really pop out) however its taking me a bit of time to get used to the anti glare coating they have on it. I would love to do this but knowing how clumsy I am, I would probably would f*ck something up :D

That's an amazingly good guide, for someone that want to do this though, and the U2312 is getting pretty popular around here. Nice find. If/when I get a room to myself that I can layout as I wish, I might very well invest in a glossy display, but alas, today is not that day. :(

Is it okay/possible to power up, and continuously use a monitor when he had it at this stage:

I wouldn't mind getting three of those, and taking off the covers and setting them up as close together as they physically could be. The one thing that I've always disliked about the eyefinity set ups is the lines going down the screen.

Heh, I had exactly the same thought when I saw that picture. I'd say probably, but I don't know if I'd be comfortable with something that fragile right in front of me.

You could maybe trim down the metal housing to match, then paint it black or something. If I was doing that though, I'd probably customise the shell to allow for thinner bezels as well.

Lads, can anyone help me with this?

I've been playing a few games on and off over the last while such as Tribes, Crysis 2 and BF3. In BF3 and Crysis 2 I get framerates typical of a 6850 and i5. However, when I play Tribes at 1080p I get between 5-10fps!? If I go down to 1770x1000 or whatever it is I get 60fps capped. What the hell is going on here?! I was getting perfect framerate (60) a few days ago on Tribes @ 1080p, but I booted up today and I'm met with this ****e.

    All help greatly appreciated,

Only in Tribes? Drivers or game-related. Maybe an update borked something. I haven't played it in weeks, so I'm not sure what updates have come out recently.

It's basic, but maybe a clean install of drivers would fix stuff.

Got an XPS M1330 with a bust GPU. Gonna try to reflow it and do the copper heatsink mod.

Tried that, reinstalled Tribes and updated to Cat 12.4, still no joy.

But, I was able to get it working at 1080p in windowed mode, even when I maximised the window (I can still see Start Menu, etc) it was running at 60+fps.

    I'm so confused .

Unistall the drivers, use driver sweeper and then re install catalyst?

Driver Sweeper seems to be discontinued, so that isn't going to work. Thanks anyway.

That's not exactly the problem. It lags like hell everywhere including the menu, there's just something buggy going on and I can't find out what's wrong.

Great, now I just bluescreened. It ain't my day. :(
Anyone have any ideas on what caused it and whether or not it has something to do with my graphics card woes?

EDIT: After manually removing everything related to Catalyst and Tribes and reinstalling them all it seems to work. And the blue screen appeared to be an unfortunate one-off. Thanks for the help anyway.

I put one into the oven and got it going for another while but it's so much trouble to strip it all down that I didn't bother again. It's really only a temporary solution if it works. Most reports I've read all say that they usually have to keep doing it.

Not really worth a thread of its own but could any recommend/where to buy a decent surge protector, preferably with Ethernet protection also.

    http://www.dabs.ie/category/cables--power-and-adaptors,power,surge-protection/11191?q=belkin%20surgemaster

I've used a few different types of these, but they're all great. Some of them have RJ45 protection as well. At present, I'm using the 6-way, 8-way, and a few of the single ones around the place. Pretty much everything is on one.

Thanks, will look at some of those. Are dabs good to deal with? I have no previous experience with them.

They can be a bit difficult to get a hold of if you have to RMA something or whatever, and items marked as "Ordered upon request" can take anywhere from a couple of days to a week extra to get delivered, but they're fine otherwise.

Guys, will two of these and a wireless PCI card fit on an ASRock Extreme4 Z77?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Yes. (Though it's going to be burning to death. :) )

Bleh. Might just get a USB one then.

After about a week of using my dell u2312HM, I am finally getting used to the anti glare coating. Beforehand it used to be extremely distracting browsing the web (on websites with white backgrounds especially) but now I hardly notice it anymore :)

Does this only happen with LED backlit panels? A few of my friends also have something similar on their acer and benq pannels (both LED backlit, not IPS) I used to have a acer monitor before this (same size) however it was CCFL backlit and the whites were clear.

I think it's just the additional layer in front of the screen rather than anything else. Not that suitable for bright/sunlit rooms. It's a bit annoying, but looks well with a darkened room or even artificial lighting. I would be interested to see how other IPS screen's coatings compare.

I was over at hwvs looking for a particular monitor. The one I want has delivery time > 7 days, but there seems to be several others in stock, with various 'unique attributes' such as 'Durch Hersteller ausgetauscht' - according to me translates to 'replaced by manufacturer', while several others have descriptions of 'Gebrauchsspuren • Verpackung: geöffnet'.

They seem to be €20-24 cheaper than the standard out of stock item. Would I be foolish to order one of these units?

I cant speak for all IPS displays, but mine doesnt have any anti glare coating, and its grand during the daylight. not great, but definitely still usable.

NTMK has his facing a huge window and can game all day without a complaint.

So, are Intel going to stop shipping i5 2500ks to shops now?
I noticed that it has gone up a in price a bit since the Ivy Bridge i5 3550k came out which is surprising. I would have thought that they would go down in price.
Only thing I can think of is that they are getting lower and lower in stock of them, and they won't be getting any more in.

I noticed it went up in price again yesterday alright. :(

Can anyone recommend me some good thermal paste off HWVS? Wanna throw some in the basket as well just to have it.

This should do the trick. It doesn't expire, and doesn't need to cure. Dunno where it is in terms of rankings, but certainly somewhere in the top ten. After that it's just margin-of-error territory, really.

I think you mean GNU/'nix thread.

not all unices are gnu only linux and hurd. take freebsd for example. If it were Gnu then Apple would not have adopted it.

I think I'd go nuts with the glossy coating on those screens though.

Yeah, that's no surprise really. CPUs rarely have any big falls after they end their line. You might pick up one second hand cheaper as some people would no doubt want to upgrade to the latest tech.
