I too am going it alone, going to Melbourne in June. A friend is coming out 5 weeks later, but she is over for erasmus, and I will be moving on around September to get my regional work out of the way and to get to see more of Australia!

21 and alone as well, make your own plans but perhaps our paths shall cross!

Hey doll I am thinking of heading in Oct if that is any good to ya, like you except I am 28 and headin on my own with no real plans!

Hi - Im am also toying with the idea of going to oz. I would be going on my own too. I do have a close friend over there but I would like to try and make it on my own and meet new people and stuff. Im also 28, sometimes I feel am I mad thinking about going now, but I feel like soon I will be too old to go and dont want to have any regrets. My parents are not entirely supportive of the idea, they dont even know that I am still considering it. I went to Sydney In December for a month and fell in love with the place - I would love to go back.

Keep me posted of your plans - Id love to hear other peoples ideas especially yours as we are the same age!

Hey female 22 hopin to go to oz in SepT/oct time goin on my own have a few friends in Perth so might head over there but would be great to meet different people headin over x

Hi girls, I agree with greenbicycle! The thought of going on your own is much worse than actually doing it! I flew over to Oz on my own, I was a little nervous coming up to the time but the journey over on my own was actually grand. I knew a few people here to stay with but TBH the people Ive met since I came over I probably see more of and socialise more. You definitely meet way more people on your own and you will be surprised the amount of people you find travelling here alone! So def do not worry you will be grand.
I am living in Sydney now, if you are coming here I am happy to offer any advice help you need as I know what it's like getting set up etc! Good luck!

Hi girls, I'm male 23 and I'm heading to Perth on my own. I do have two friends in Perth who can help with setting me up over there, accomodation, job, etc. I'm planning on going in a month/ two months but have nothing booked yet.

I was just wondering how much you plan on bringing after flights and visas are paid for. I think I will only be able to get €2,000 and I'm just wondering if this is enough or are you guys bringing alot more?

I would bring at east 4000 euro with you coming to perth. its a very expensive city. You might not get a job straight away but you might be lucky and get one withing two weeks but just in case you dont you will need around the 4000 mark.

Hey I'm 28 as well and flying over to Sydney on 16th August - going Dublin to Abu Dhabi then straight to Sydney if any1 is on that flight let us know - dreading flying on my own :). I'm gonna be staying with a friend and her bf when I get there for a while but hoping I land a job pretty soon and can then go and rent somewhere... wanna head to Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne as well during my time there.. Also dreading doing the 3 mths regional work by myself as well as all the ppl I know over there have already done it :(

I booked a return flight just in case but can always change the dates if I decide to stay the 2nd year!

But like every1 else I'm scared and nervous about going but I'm sure once I settle in and make friends I'll love it!!!!!!!!!

Throw on the headphones and watch a few films and the flight will be over before you know it.

As regards regional work, im sure plenty do it alone and make friends. Lifes too short to worry about it. Thats what I keep telling myself anyway!

Looking for some help? Have decided I want to go to Australia or New Zealand not too fussy, but don’t want to go alone. I am girl and 23 years old anyone thinking of travelling would love to hear from you!! Would be planning September to leave but would leave before this if I can’t get a summer job as I am just finishing college.

Hi I'm just wondering have you made up your mind on where your going? I would love to go to Australia. I'm also in the situation. I'm a 22 year old girl who is nearly finished college. I'm planning on looking for a summer job and leaving in September after I graduate but if I cannot get a job would be willing to travel any time :)

Malaysia Airlines? Ya i'm the same...i'm ok with flying i think it's more making such a big move alone etc! Are you staying in brisbane or have you any plans to head somewhere else? Are you setting up your bank a/c and TFN on this side or waiting till you get over there?
I only decided end of last week so trying to find out as much as i can at the mo! It's very nerve wracking but the one thing i keep saying over in my head is that at least there are a few people i know in the country that if i find things very difficult i can get in touch with! Beats staying here anyways!!

    Hey,

Male, 26 here. My plan is to travel to Perth in October / November ( veering more towards November. ) I too, like countless others, will be travelling on my own. I know a few people out there already but I'm open to meeting new people and comforting any nervous wrecks! :pac:

Seriously though, when I have a solid date, I'll post here. I'll also be going from Cork.

    Hello there,

23 year old, male, just finished my degree from Maynooth.

I've been putting a lot of thought into making the move, but haven't made any solid decisions yet. I still have to book a visa.

I'm hoping to go to Melbourne, I hear its a good place, plenty of sports, a nice city and decent people. I have a friend there too on a WHV and already has a decent job in a field relating to our course.

I hope to go in November, I think that should be enough time to save up the €4000 recommended.

So far I've no plans for traveling around Australia, mainly because I don't know the land. However if I meet people who want to make a journey around the place, I'm all up for it.

Let me know if you're interested!

    Hi there,
Myself and my friend are travelling to Melbourne around Mid Sept - we haven't booked the flights yet but we'll be doing it shortly, we're female & both of us are 28 - we're thinking about doing a stop over in Thailand on the way depending on the flights etc.

I could be, I'm flying home for a month or so in 2 weeks and I'm going to see what the job climate is like and fly out some out some time in early Sept. Its harvest season around Brisbane at that time so a job on the farms wouldn't be hard to organise...

Im settling in nicely, im down on the gold coast between surfers and byron, its good craic, im hanging out with my cousin so havent had to start hostel life. gonna head into brisbane at some stage. word of advice if you havent already opened a bank a/c get one set up within your first 6wks of being here that way all you need is a passport and about $50 to activate after 6wks you need secondary id which is a bill with your name on it. I got mine, gonna get a tax file number online too. Brisbane any use?
