dont want to turn this in a full blown debate but

would the amd 8150 be better than an i5 intel if I was looking to play and record games, use photoshop and also general internet/computer usage?

That's a tough one, but I'd probably still go with the i5-2500k. While the extra cores of the 8150 will help in photoshop, the i5 will win in gaming. Coupled with easier overclocking and lower power consumption, the i5 is probably the better choice.

So, I know this question has been asked a million times over, but I can't find the pages. :(

Best Mechanical Keyboard for around 100euro? Can go a little more if needed.

I was looking through the guide on overclockers, and whilst its very helpful. I would imagine things have progressed a lot since 2009 so thats probably outdated.

I quite like the shiny DAS models with no letters, but the ones on Amazon are very expensive and I can't find the exact model I like.

I think brown or black keys would be best, as I do a lot of gaming.

I should have a brown keyboard here by the middle of next week, if you'd like to give it a go. I'd also advise you try and find someone with red/black keys and try those as well. There's a huge difference when you actually sit down with one.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm from Mayo so its way too much a hassle just to drive up to try a keyboard :P
And anybody around these parts has either no computer, or a 5 year old DELL pc with a 10euro keyboard from tesco...

Just spotted this case on HWVS for €30:
    Silverstone SST-PS04B

Anyone have any experience with it? Had a quick google for reviews but couldn't find any decent one. Could only find user reviews which summed up as:

+Decent enough build quality considering the price.
    +Limited tool less options.
    +All black interior.

-Lacks a filter on bottom PSU intake.
    -Thin metal, a bit flimsy.

Any idea how it would compare with the Merc Alpha/Beta?

Ah, that's much nicer. Reminds me a little of the HAF series.

I'll try it out the next time I'm building something that doesn't need to look fancy and let you know what its like. I've been meaning to do a few quick 'reviews' of some of the stuff I've ordered. most doesn't really matter though. like the bitfenix Merc case is way better than the xigmatech asguard. everyone specs the Merc anyway now so doesn't really matter.

I have the Merc, I think its great for 30euro. 4USB on the top is great, not many 100euro + cases have that.
Although no room for cables, so mine are just a mess in there.

I do quite like the look of that one though, I probably would pick that over the Merc if I had to base itt on looks.

Yeah, I saw. Still looks like something out of StarCraft.

Since we are talking about cheap cases, I bought the Antec One a couple of weeks ago for a HTPC build and was happy with it. Loads of room for cable management and a solid case. Was Eur50 on Amazon

AMD Readies new 7970 Ghz Edition
AMD's Radeon HD 7970 could not hold on to the single-GPU performance crown for too long. It lost it to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680, and the upcoming GeForce GTX 670 threatens to damage its competitiveness even further. Reports suggest that AMD is working on a new Tahiti-based graphics card SKU, the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. AMD unveiled the "GHz Edition" moniker to denote SKUs that come with engine clock speed ≥1 GHz. The new HD 7970 GHz Edition will come with reference core clock speed of 1050 MHz.

AMD needn't tinker with memory clock speed, as it already has a 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface compared to the GeForce GTX 680 and its 256-bit memory bus width. Sources told Atomic PC that improved yields and manufacturing processes have benefitted Tahiti just as well as GK104, and ES Tahiti chips from the latest batches "easily" hit 1250 MHz core. These batches could make custom-design graphics cards with extremely high core clock speeds possible.

Whats the point of this? How much more expensive is this going to be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

it probably won't be any more expensive. they cant afford that, or people will just get 680's.

    I want my 1337Mhz dammit.

Not sure if this has been posted or not.

Long and short: GTX 670 is 95-98% the performance of a 680, but will reportedly sell for $350-400.

GTX 660 Ti is the interesting one though, suppose to be out in June and for 199 euro.

It's suppose to have 7870 performance.

Looks very cool. I wonder can you do that for the Yamakasi Catleap?

Says it supports up to 30 inches (those are 27" monitors in the pic), and if not, some other mount?

People are saying that IB is running hot, but I presume they are talking about on-die temperatures when overclocking?

Its pulling less from the wall than an equivalent SB and generated heat is directly related to that. So it should be putting less total heat output into the heatsink and case, ?

I ask because ive been looking forward to 22nm quads so I can build a quiet quad-core setup, with a focus on a quiet and low power-consumption system rather than o/c to the max.

I like Wall Mounts more because it makes them look like they are floating which is a nice effect.
But those look very nice too.

Is there anything special about those monitors or are they just normal 1080p TN ones?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,119 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

Well I'll never wall mount as I will only ever rent accommodation, so I thought I'd never be mounting ever. But having discovered those, they look nice.

I usually play with my monitor like a foot from my face though to is it worse playing games from so far back?

They are not my monitors so i don't know, looks like 2 diff models there, I think they are just 1080p TN ones.

If that is true looks like I have found my next gpu. Probably time to try life on the green side of the fence again anyway I've spent a Good few years in the red corner.

I bought the 560ti a year ago nearly with the idea that it would go down in price and i could sli...it's more expensive now than when I got it :pac:

Hmm, Gibbo who works at OCUK, says it's coming in about 4/5 months time.

Mmm guess i could play outside for the summer :).

I Wanted a HD7850 originally but not paying 230 odd for it. Especially since i'm mostly playing Skyrim and some of my older game backlog I think I can afford to wait for some midrange competition.

They said the same thing about the 670 though, that was suppose to come out 3 to 4 months after the 680 and it's arrived alot faster.

If people knew the 670 would be out 6 weeks after the 680, who in there right mind would have bought a 680?

7850 and 7870 are getting alot of market share as well, Nvidia has no direct competitor for them.

I am hoping it's out July at the latest.
