Ah, right. Wow, that doesn't look so good...

There's a Force 3 120GB for €121, if he can stretch that far. From what I've heard the Corsair drives are the most reliable of all the SF3 ones.

no extra money. im lending him the tenner extra for the OCZ :D

If he's strapped for cash, then why not just get something reliable albeit smaller (i.e., 64GB M4) and pocket the extra cash? I know the lure of 128GB is definitely tempting and permits you to a bit more generous in allocating space, but a good drive will last a while and makes still a world of difference as an OS drive with the main programs, even if you can put everything on there.

If you do get the petrol, I would be interested in hearing how it goes.

    no surprise there.

Intel now has 8 cpus faster than AMDs best. its such a shame bulldozer didn't work out.

That is very good news. We need some competition. Keep in mind amd is always good in bang for your money bracket, maybe with this price cut they will get it back for them.

I would have been very interested a week ago for one :( maybe in 2 weeks I'll be interested again. doesn't answer your question though.

eBay is showing completed listings of between £150 -£220 for the higher end ones. Irish market is a little different though, most people want to trade you for a box of ice, or €10. I think you'd be doing well to get €200. one sold for €100 on adverts.ie so they're not high demand unfortunately.

Thanks tea, I just keep them then. I had my head turned with the 680s but can't justify the price

75% increase on the 680 I heard, just slapped two of them together :P
999$ price tag though :/ And likely higher in euros..

it still works out cheapest 1015eu++ for 690 in europe. like i said, i would just get 2x680 instead. . 680 sli was scaling very good on launch day, and i bet it is better with each patch. plus you get 2 proper cooling systems.
i really dont like design of these dual gpus. one side is going to blow all hot air inside, so then your fan chokes on that hot air again. 680 is know to be on hotter side too, that was the price to pay for being so silent.

if you are getting stuff like 6990,590,690 then chances are you are not planning on sli'ing it. i can only imagine a mess with drivers on those yokes...

Right lads, €100 budget for an ITX socket 1155 board.

is this the best for the price?

    http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=50890&agid=1605

is there anything else you'd look at that HWVS doesnt stock?

it'd use an SSD so SATA3 is a must.

I assume you need OC support? Looks like the best one there to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

not yet, if I get it, its getting a G630 for now and into a elementQ case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Well then you could go for a H61-something? About €50 or so I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

all of the cheaper boards appear to be missing something. I need a minimum of 4 sata ports (1 sata3), decent enough sound, USB3 etc.

the cheapest one to do that is this

    www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?adp=0&aid=45456&agid=1605&apop=3

but I figured spending 20e more for solid future proof and ivy should be worth it?
don't really care about the remote tbh, I'll be using my phone and vnc over lan for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Yeah, I guess you might as well go for the Z68 board then.

I have to say reading this sounds very interesting , i wonder is it a 7830 or just a slip up . I guess time will tell , they should have the benchmarks up in a week or so .

They are missing something between the 7770 and 7850, could be it.

AMD Shanghai became aware of our discovery of a Pitcairn chip with 768 shaders and made it clear that it did not want news spreading of a Radeon HD 7850 with only 768 shaders. To be clear, AFOX was just as surprised as everyone else to learn about this mystery chip. This PCB with this chip was produced at the beginning of the Radeon HD 7800-series' production. It's plausible that these 768 shader chips were indeed for validation due to supply considerations. Given the stir that this discovery has created, it's safe to assume that this chip wasn't intended to leave the engineering labs.

Does it not say there that it was a early model and was not meant to leave the labs?

can anyone find a 5.25" to 3.5" HDD adapter on HWVS?

    Gentleman, and a scholar.

its the wrong one (3.5" to 2.5"), but its the right section so i found it through that. sound.

also, that one you listed holds 2x2.5", which is very interesting..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Woops. I somehow got 3.5-2.5 out of your post, sorry about that. Yeah, those adapters are handy for smaller systems, etc. (not that it's hard to find space for an SSD, but hey)

actually, im cutting it close :P

im transfering my HTPC/server into Thermaltake Element Q.

3xHDD's, and an SSD jammed in there somewhere.

im worried about heat now though.

its going to get this ITX board, a pentium G630 with stock cooler, and a passive HD6450, along with the above 3xHDD's and an SSD :/

will i need to somehow get a case fan in there?

is an amd better than an intel processor?
theyre considerably cheaper and it seems as though they would be the way to go
    Is the performance very different?

Here's what happened last time someone asked a similar question!! No doubt Solitaire is lurking here somewhere with his ban hammer!!

I think the general consensus among the in the know folks around here (and I'm not on of them) is that at the moment Intel is better value for money for most applications.

Bulldozers have been reduced in price since that thread though, haven't they?

€180 for an FX 8150 seems like a decent price for an octocore processor if you have a workflow that fits it. I'd love more cores for streaming TF2.

Although the power consumption of the 8150 is twice its Intel equivalent, which is kind of concerning...
