    gold star for you mate.

Least you managed to get a post in without going out of your way to bash a Munster player

Yourself and JM08 are as bad as each other, albeit from different standpoints

The whole provincial bull**** is wrecking the forum

the only thing wrecking the forum is you pal. Chillax, don't let jm08 get you riled.

Anyway moving on from the bull**** and back on topic

I can see Butler putting pressure on Coughlan next year

What's the story with Leamy at the moment? Is he injured?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭TomLamp

Also what about Nagle? In the media last year they were saying down in Munster that hes the best second row in Ireland and a possible lions tourist but now hes nowhere to be seen. I've heard a lot of people say hes injured but then hes been playing for Munster A throughout the season. Really weird.

If Nagle fulfils on his promise then you could start him with POC and have 6.Ryan 7.Wallace 8.POM which would be a vast improvement on the current back row

Nagle has been well down the pecking order but he keeps getting injured an inopportune times. Tends to be fit when all the internationals are around then injures himself as they leave.

I haven't been paying ferociously close attention to munster this year but when was Leamy injured. I can't remember seeing much of him.

    Best second row in Ireland?

Any quote or source for that ridiculous claim?

It's over two years since Nagles initial hype after the Australian game

A mixture of injury and poor form has kept him from fulfilling his potential

I'll eat my hat and delete my account if you can show me a source from last year where he was alluded to as the best 2nd row in Ireland when he wasn't even benching for Munster

    So no source then?

Even in the wake of his initial showing of potential no-one in the media was calling him "the best second row in Ireland"

Who called him the best second row in Ireland OR a possible Lions tourinst? Noone that I can remember.

Sorry I said in the media down in Munster by that I meant on munstefans.com, on blogs etc.

You must surely remember the Nagle hype?

Lots of people calling him the best young second-row alright, don't think anyone seriously rated him as the best second-row.

"The potential to be a future Lion" or something along those lines may have been bandied about but even that is doubtful

I remember at the time some in the media highlighting his potential and saying he could be a good player for Ireland and Munster in the future, but that's it

I think you were just trying to get a little bashing going on Nagle and were found out tbh

As biased as some of the posters are on Munster fans are I'd doubt even anyone there rated him ahead of POC DOC and Cullen 2 years ago

Ha no I don't agree, I said it was a possiblity someone may have mentioned him as a possible future Lion, but that it was doubtful

You said he was being hailed as a future Lion and Ireland's best second row by the media

Maybe have something to back up what you're saying next time

your being paranoid. Have a gander through the threads, some posters wanted him starting alongside POC for Ireland

No, I said he was being touted as a possible lions tourist. Have a read back.

Ah so you did, in the wake of the Australian game it wouldn't have been improbable, albeit unlikely for someone in the media to suggest that.

Nothing to say about the fact that you completely made up the part about the media calling him "the best 2nd row in Ireland" though?

Aside from the score any news on the game itself.
Good entertaining game played in front of a big crowd, it was all munster in the first 20 mins but Rockwells defence again was outstanding. game opened up in the second half and both sides moved the ball around with some good skills on show. Game finished up at 4 tries to 1 to rockwell . Rockwell were obviously more organised but were missing a few lads from the side i saw playing in the senior cup semi, mccarthy from the 2nd row and the loose head to name a couple but still had a very strong team out. Munster 19s had some good players on show,Ned hodson from midleton college at 10 looks a good player and backrows jack dineen and diamuid dee from crescent looked decent aswell. The 19s will have a strong side once they have some time together i think. Lastly fair play to cashel rfc for hosting the event.

If Umaga was genuinely rated in NZ, he wouldn't have been assistant coach in a poor ITM Cup side after a coaching gig in the T14 and wouldn't be applying for jobs on the other side of the planet now. Him being mentioned in relation to the Blues job is lazy media speculation and not a lot more, I would think.

I think coaching in Europe is regarded as a bit of a negative tbh if you are looking for a top job in new zealand. To get the ABs job you have to be coaching a super rugby team. Gatland with all his experience and trophies in the NH could only get a job coaching an ITM cup team. There is also a lot of coaches looking for a few jobs. Wayne Smith is the Chiefs Defence coach now. You'd think he would get at least Backs/Attack Coach as a former ABs coach and world cup winning backs coach.

This is the bit about potential coaches from new zealand herald. He is not the front runner, but if he was regarded as such a poor coach, he wouldn't be mentioned in the first place.
If that were to happen Auckland coach Wayne Pivac could be seen as the front runner to take over, while North Harbour's Liam Barry, Counties' Tana Umaga, Canterbury's Rob Penney would be the other provincial coaches who could get the job.

Counties CEO said that Umaga was on a short-term contract because people like him are usually in high demand and they don't want to sign for longer than that.

Coaching and coaching appointments in NZ can be a bit funny some times but I think you're forgetting that Wayne Smith went from Northampton to the AB set up, Steve Hansen went from Wales to the AB set up, and Henry went from Wales to the Blues defense coach for a season to the AB head coach. Both Smith and Hansen would have been Henry's appointments I think.

Just on Nagle, he is a super prospect but he's always picking up knocks. The best players are the durable ones, imo, there's no point having the talent if your body breaks down every few games. He might be just unlucky but you'd fear for him.

Smith had been AB head coach before he went to Northampton (and had been coaching the Crusaders before that). I think Henry missed out on the AB gig when Smith got it because he was in Wales and he had to do his time with the Blues before he was appointed. Obviously he would be more sympathetic to those not coming from the NZ setup. Gatland went back to get decontaminated :D and coached ITM cup to get into the running for the AB job.

I hope he announces that he's going to play til he's 38:pac::pac::pac:
    (Joking)

If he does decide to go he will be a big loss to Munster. I thought he played well last night and while he may not be POC class he's always done well for Munster. He's started 16 games for them this season too so the pressure will be on his replacements to perform.

MOD will be a serious loss

One of the unsung heroes of Munster rugby

Tremendous professional and a very good if not brilliant player who comes in for a lot of unfair stick, bit like Paddy Wallace

Wish him all the best in the future

Bit of an unusual one, it's not that he's so old that he's got one foot in the grave. Only about 6 months older than DOC or POC. And it's not like he's slowing down either, he's been in great form this season in my view.
