In Fairness I did hear someone saying that Nagle was Lions material alright...but it was Frankie Sheehan who is his AGENT and would do anything to build his profile.
It is not really on that Frankie gets this time on TV to big up his own guys so much

His full Munster debut was a MOTM performance against Australia, it was easy to get carried away. Frankie might be a bit prone to the hypebole but for what its worth he's not Nagles agent.

On a side note I met richie Gray after the game against Glasgow on Saturday. Really nice guy, stayed around for ages for autographs, photos and general banter. Said he was surprised with the level of attention the players got here, nothing like that in Scotland by all accounts.

I don't care either way but in the interests of fairness, he IS Nagle's agent

I'm amazed and happy that Leinster didn't pick him up. Seemed like an obvious signing.

Hard to imagine Leinster couldn't have outbid Sale (and been a more appealing club for Grey himself) and hard to imagine they wouldn't have wanted him. If they didn't make a move for him on the basis of thinking Sykes would still be here then that makes that move all the worse. Grey would have actually been a perfect addition.

Still can't understand why the didn't move for Grey

It's possible the IRFU don't want high profile NH players signing as they'll miss a good bit of the season. Grey will play every test he's fit for for Scotland.

Maybe winning the Amlin Cup has always been a dream for Richie ;)

Munster’s Micko to retire at end of season

    By Charlie Mulqueen
    Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Mick Galwey last night paid a glowing tribute to Munster’s Mick O’Driscoll whose retirement after 15 years as one of the country’s most consistent second-row forwards will be announced in Limerick today.

There is a remarkable symmetry between the two men. They share the same birthday, October 8,although Galwey at 45 is the older by 12 years. O’Driscoll made his Munster debut against Leinster as Galwey’s second-row partner at Dooradoyle in August 1998. And it was Galwey who made way when O’Driscoll won his first cap for Ireland as a replacement against Romania in Bucharest in 2001.

Sad to see Micko leave. He was always one of our most reliable players.

BIG BIG BIG rebuilding job needed next year.

Nagle sticking around now makes abundantly more sense

Next year needs to be the year where he ****s or gets off the pot

His own goal should be to be a nailed on starter when Ryan and POC are away and benching over DOC in the HC

Why the IRFU gave DOC a 3 year international contract is mindboggling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

He's only a year older than POC, and six months older than DOC.

With Micko gone the duel between dave foley(who i rate highly), nagle and billy holland will be interesting. I rate the 1st 2 as much better players but Holland has the most game time and will prob start off with getting more games

You'd like to think Micko will get a run out against Ulster at Thomond, be in from the bench or starting.

Any reason why MOD is leaving? Always really rated him and is a quality squad player. I've felt he typifies Munster rugby too, bit of an indomitable spirit. He could easily have another 2 years in him.

I love Mick as I've said, but Munster should be alright.

I don't believe they will be unlucky enough to lose both Nagle and Foley next season. So their locks will be POC, Ryan, DOC, Foley and Nagle. An embarrassment of riches if anything, especially in comparison to pretty much every other position in the squad!

I have to say from a Munster perspective this could be a good thing. As has been mention he is only 12 months older the POC and 6 months older then DOC. That's potentially a hell of a lot of experience Munster could lose in one fell swoop if they were all to retire in and around the same period.

At least now with a bit of staggering between the retirements Munster can get a couple of others up to standard before both POC and DOC retire

Easily could have 2 years in him, he is only a year younger than POC and DOC. good solid player but being honest im glad he's gone as his retirement should hopefully mean the likes of Foley and Nagle will have much more gametime from september
Some players age differently, look at brad thorn- 37 and still going.
Micko tbf has looked a little less effective this year than he did in years past so maybe the time is right to go

According to the Times today there is injury doubts over POC, Wallace, ROG, Ealrs, and Botha for the game on the weekend.

Seemingly Earls, ROG, and Botha are only expected to resume contact training this week and Wallace and POC are expected to resume full training this week. What the difference between full and contact training is I dunno.
MUNSTER ARE hopeful Paul O’Connell and David Wallace will resume full training this week despite suffering recurrences of knee injuries.

Wallace is causing the most concern. The 35-year-old flanker was unable to feature against Glasgow last Saturday despite only recently returning from seven months rehabilitating a horrific rupturing of his right knee. He missed the World Cup after being tackled by England’s young centre Manu Tuilagi in the August warm-up fixture at the Aviva Stadium.

James Coughlan has already been ruled out for the season, requiring surgery to a bone in his hand, forcing Peter O’Mahony to play number eight.

O’Connell damaged the medial collateral ligament in his left knee against France on March 4th.

Munster probably need a win in Llanelli this Saturday to secure a home semi-final in the RaboDirect Pro 12. They have yet to guarantee a top-four finish and must still face Ulster on May 5th in Limerick.

It is also anticipated Keith Earls (ankle), Ronan O’Gara (leg) and BJ Botha (ribs) will resume contact training this week. However, due to the number of concerns outgoing coach Tony McGahan will not release a squad until tomorrow.

I've always just assumed that contact training means full training. I may be wrong though.

The Ulster match was pretty costly in terms of injuries.

Supposedly there were also personal reasons for the move - Grey wanted to be somewhat close to home. A 3 hour drive up the motorway to go home is far handier than dealing with all the hassle of airport security.

There's also a few Scottish guys in the Sale squad. Richie Vernon would have played with Grey at Glasgow last season for example.

We don't need Botha and ROG to whup the Scarlets but I would like to see Earls back at 13.

Sinead kissane just tweeted that Wallace has to see a surgeon in a few weeks about his knee. Out of the game this weekend.

There were rumours on Mfs that he was having trouble with his knee. There is also talk that he isn't signed on for another season.

Would be terrible if he had to go out like this. Going into the WC, reports were coming from all corners commending his strength and fitness. Seriously impressive when you consider that Ferris and SOB are 10 years his junior, but he was competing with/beating them in all areas.

Harsh, Tuilagi did nothing wrong in that challenge, Wallace was caught awkwardly or landed awkwardly. He's a decent centre.
