As is usual - incomplete payments will be returned as, eh, incomplete - from midnight the tenner is added on (not an optional extra).

hmmmm, that's going to work well. I pay €100 in 6 months time, and the government are faced with spending more than a tenner chasing up my tenner. That's a good system, eh.....

There will be alot of people bidding their time to see how many paid. Don't forget alot of people got burned on the water charge. And they never got a refund.

It might be, but it would hardly be justified. There isn't a very good reason for someone who had intended to pay but couldn't be arsed doing it on time!

There is I suppose an unknown number who probably didn't feel to strong one way or the other about this charge and were going to pay but were waiting to see how things panned out. They might take the chance to save a couple of quid.

In that case, compliance rates for those who are liable look like it's over 55%!

The website is the buisiest tonight it has ever been, there are huge numbers registering for the charge. Before midnight you're looking at almost 800,000 at this rate.

And there will be no extension period. Come midnight it's a fine for late pay, simple as.

    Source?

Buddy of mine works there, decided to ask how it's going and that's what I got back.

    I'm a CSO head so I'm clean :p

No I don't doubt it but was not aware they could take fines from your wages.
why the need for new legislation if it's in place all ready
Revenue have powers that weren't available to other agencies - nothing too unusual there.

If anything is unusual, its the fact that it is taking up to now to introduce this sensible measure to normal fines.

So your owed €110 and someone posts you €100 you return the cheque. Are you sure your working the private sector? LOL

If I get an incomplete payment, I'd sort it out sharpish - I certainly don't negotiate after invoicing.

You are saying Revenue could only take tax fines? They could not deduct just any fine, is this correct?

So much for a majority not paying the charge...what a laugh. Many of the people who followed idiots like Clare Daly will be running down to pay the charge over the coming weeks/months. Property taxes are a way of life in other countries....get used to it. There is no way the government are going to forget about this charge, there will be no back down. I can't wait to hear people ringing in on Joe Duffy when they start deducting the charge from their incomes.

I'm pretty sure you know what happens to someone who doesn't pay a court fine. Penal warrant followed by three hots and a pot. That's just the fine. There is still the original charge pluse interest and penalty. They will likely deduct this at source for social welfare and public sector employees and through tax credits for everyone else. And I've no doubt that they will use the level of non payment as an excuse for some more cuts in the next budget.

That will not help their cause one iota. It will just turn more people against them and lead to a bitter campaign where the people will eventually turn against them and protests will occur.
Attacking the ownership of a man's home is not the way.
I know most of you Public Servants have to pay because you fear the consequences but the rest of us will fight this.

Crumlin Hospital actually NEEDS the money to help save childrens lives.

No. The Revenue have no part to play in this at all (apart from sharing databases).
My only reason for introducing the Revenue is as an example of where attachment orders are routine.

Probably not. And it probably won't even hurt them in a general election that is still a long way away. (Remember the claims that the new NCT and the smoking ban were going to do for the FF led governments? Wasn't even an election issue when it came to it).

Of course there will be plenty of sh*t they will have to throw at us first. Presumably they hope to get much of this out of the way in the first couple of years. Though I have this suspicion that they will befall the same fate as Albert R. it will be some trivial thing that will do for them in the end.

I'm not quite sure what that software system is, but its not necessary for attachment orders.
Attachment orders are currently used on a routine and widespread basis in this country. The Revenue Commissioners have direct powers, that they use on a day to day basis, for the Collector General's office to apply attachment orders, on the instruction of a Principal Officer.

Nobody needs to go to jail. Anyone who finds themselves in front of a court will pay the fine.

You have not agreed the new system is needed and you know well it is needed. This has nothing to do with revenue office. It's ok to admit you made a mistake. I will if I made the mistake.
