There's talk of Bud Adams offering 60 million this year. Can't see how it happens though, the cap does exist after all.
Titans have about half what Denver has - part of the problem for Adams and part of the reason for this 'contract for life' offer.

Imo this is it for us. If we can't get him here, that's it and we should turn elsewhere. We have the entire front office there and near enough to a blank check. Reason Bowlen went is to clear a bigger deal in the likely event its necessary. 60 mil over 5 isn't gonna win this.

Supposedly 49ers interested. If their interest is valid and serious, that's all she wrote, they're in a different league to any other team interested. I get the feeling they're not going all in on this, though. Schefter just after saying they didn't consider themselves real players.

    Condon at it again?

From @mortreport and me: Even before he worked out for Broncos, Peyton Manning worked out for 49ers and underwent a physical this week.

Seems 49ers put themselves on the map without others knowing.

Bowlen isn't on the plane - EXF, McCoy, Gase, medical team - and $30million guaranteed is a lot of money for a guy that is one hit away from end of days.

I think this has more to do with getting Smith to sign the contract rather than pussy-footing around the place like he has been for the past week.

Condon represents smith and manning. no smoke without fire but there's more smoke than fire here.

I'd reckon if we don't come back with Manning tonight, we're out of the running more or less.... agreed?

I don't see Peyton Manning working out and doing a physical all hush-hush unless there was a real possibility of the 49ers biting. If they could find away to make it happen the 49ers wouldn't need to make any other move - they'd be the very best team in the league.

chill out spiral - no one except the 49ers want Smith - if manning goes to SF then Condon will have a job getting any money for Smith.

Disagree - the Titans offer is the same 5/60 - this will not come down to money.

Agreed. If the Niners are seriously pushing this and can make it work they become the instant SB favourites.

Agreed. Harbaugh has a great setup there and Manning with that offense would destroy and that Defense showed us all they are for real. 49ers could be a serious contender but again it all depends on what Manning wants.

That was what i was thinking too, Condon is the ****ing Godfather by the way things have panned out.

If it's not money though and Niners are seriously pushing this, then we're stuck either way.

Tbh this doesnt look good, we lose a bidding war to TN for this "job for life" and "stake in the team" ****e, we lose to SF because they're class. Stuck in the middle much?

Imo we should push for an answer today, this is taking the ****ing piss now.

    .

Condon/Smith are probably waiting to see what Manning does before Smith makes any moves hence why there has been very little action on Smith. But if Manning goes to 49ers and Flynn goes to Seattle/Miami you will Seattle/Miami taking him. Carroll has showed interest in the past and Miami will be desperate at that point if they dont land Flynn.

Calm down, man. You're changing your opinions on a whim. Does anyone know where Kansas City have disappeared to in the race for Manning? I thought he liked their gm.

I would expect Seattle to trade up to take Tannehill

Pioli is the problem - he wouldn't give Manning free-reign with the offence. Same issue with the 49ers - can anyone see Harbaugh giving the reins over to Manning completely? - it goes against everything he has done as a coach.

Update - it now appears that the 5years/$60million numbers were inaccurate and the offers are closer to 5years/$90million - $61.8million would be paid in the first two years.

I wouldn't worry too much 'bout getting it done tonight (unless you're an Arizona fan!). He's only one week on from the Indy break up, i think taking more than 7 days is reasonable in the position he's in, Manning of all people will be itching to get started working on whatever offence he ends up with, but its a massive decision. I just hope wherever he goes its not for the money alone or a job-for-life number. I'd like to see him go to Denver, would be an exciting set up there and they are not gonna progress much further with Tebow. I'd hate to see him go to the Titans.

Whatever happens i cannot wait for the start of the season, so many factors make it look like its gonna be really interesting.

Denver post now reporting that the Broncos are offering $90m over 5 years - wow!

EXF left without watching Manning throw a pass - this meeting was about contract.

    Really?
John Elway ‏ @johnelway We enjoyed visiting with Peyton today in N.C. He threw the ball great and looked very comfortable out there.

According to Elway he watched Manning throw.

    Elway just added:
Watching him throw today was the next step in this important process for our team and Peyton. It was a productive visit and went well.

Someone on twitter spreading bullsh*t - big surprise.

Denver are clearly in the mix - just wish it was done and dusted either way - my work is piling up.

Just checked - the first tweet came from Andrew Mason - he should have known better.

Correction - Mason re-tweeted from the Duke Sports Chronicle - they should have know - that's where EXF met Manning.

The Elway tweet is significant - it is the first 'on the record' comment from EXF.

Oh I am sorry I didn't realise your information was worth more than John Elways himself on his official Twitter account that was re=tweeted by all the credible sources.

Guys - maybe I didn't make myself clear - I was calling the original tweet from the DukeChronicle bullsh*t. The Duke Chronicle said Manning didn't throw - Mason re-tweeted that tweet - scroll down half a page.

Seems either Elway is telling Porkies or the Chronicle are:

    ExpaChronicle Sports ‏ @chroniclesports
Elway just tweeted that he enjoyed watching Peyton throw today, but it's unclear when/for how long that happened, appeared they spent (1/2)

their time away from both the indoor/outdoor practice facilities, unless he threw briefly at the very beginning of the visit (2/2)

No reason for Elway to - unless they were there to get Manning to sign a contract. It is the first time Elway has gone on the record.

Manning has been consistant - he has visited each team on his list - listened to what they had to say - eliminated two - met again and discussed contracts, threw the ball and had a physical. He will afford the same courtesy to the Titans and then will make a decision.

I still think the 49ers are tossing Manning into the mix to get Smith to sign his contract. If they are serious, Manning wants to win a SB and Harbaugh is willing to let Manning control the offence then there is no contest - the 49ers will win hands down. The only other issue for the 49ers is their willingness to pay the 5/90 contract - it would eliminate their cap space and more.

Steve Young seems to think the 49ers are in it for Real:
Steve Young on ESPN on his former 49ers team: "They know they're the best answer for Peyton Manning...that's why they'll probably land him."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭Syferus

It's completely ridiculous to think that they'd secretly work him out if their intention was to spook Smith. Manning is no mug, the 49ers' interest is real.

Well if the 49ers get him then they might as well just collect the Super Bowl now :pac:

49ers would be pretty epic. Manning to Moss has a nice ring to it. :pac: Still not sure he'd go to the NFC though.

Interestingly the 49ers play against the following in 2012:

Giants, Saints, Packers, Patriots,Lions,Bears, some pretty interesting match ups there if manning is under centre.

I'm very surprised that 49ers are in for Manning and I'd love to know how it came about, was it a case of maybe manning letting the 49ers know he would consider them an option?

I find it hard to believe that it was 49ers intention all along to go after Manning, especially the way they have been courting Smith.

Also if a deal was on the table for smith as has been suggested that would also imply that going after Manning was only a recent development.
