Well done all the lads at Newport Rugby Club. A really good event for my first foray into this kind of stuff. Came home in 2:47 myself but that included going over the handlebars at the bottom of a descent and 2 further chain drops  Thankfully the helmet did its job and I was probably lucky to come away with some grazing and whiplash. Helmet a write off but worth every penny I paid for it. Also 18km for the run!! Grrrr The bottle of water at the summit was like a treat though, thanks a mill for that.

More signs needed in advance to let locals know a race is on. I nearly ploughed into a man, a cart , his dog and 2 kids walking in tandem atthe back of Keeper

Thank you to all the marshalls who volunteered for this event, thank you!

I would just like to say congratulations to all the organisers for today's event. It was very well organised, the guys around the course were great dishing out the encouragement, a generous goody bag and tech t-shirt on completion. I competed in the mini challenge and found it very doable, it was my first adventure challenge. I am looking forward to next years event. I hope you raised a sizeable amount for Newport Rugby Club. Well done again to all :-)

Hi just like to say what a great day out this event turned out to be, it was very well marshaled and organised. The use of the showers after was a godsend. The t shirt and goodie bag were spot on when you consider this was a fundraiser and as an inaugural event would have had a lot of overheads.Bring it on next year.

Done the race yesterday and big thumbs up, I did three adventure races last year: Killarney, War Wicklow and the Sea to Summit in Westport and yesterday stood up to them. I thought the route yesterday was excellent. My only suggestions for next year would be to avoid the delay at the start of the race as people were getting cold and to have distance markers on the way up Keeper Hill. I had no problem paying €50 as it was a fundraiser. Did hear after wards that it was 9.5k to the top of Keeper Hill, did anyone clock the total run distance?

I was Reliably informed yesterday, I think maybe by Ki himself... by the guy who was upstairs before the race talking about the green bands..that it was infact 18k.. looking at my time for run I reckon it was definitely 17-18k, either way it was great event- again i agree that km marks going up keeper would have been great

Yeah, it was me in registration. And you are correct it was 18K.

We said it would be unfair to get you all to climb keeper hill and then not send you to the top, so we didn't pull the turning point down the hill
I'll compile a full list of your recommendations and implement them next year.

but the km markers on the hill was an oversight.

Can I also say thanks to all competitors as we had minimal littering.
The volunteers, who were out and abut the course.

I've put a list of the winners and times on the site, I'll get everyone's times up tomorrow.

And see the link above for the pic's

    Thanks again

Well done to Newport Rugby Club on organising this event. It was my third event since taking up Adventure Racing up last year. For an amateur event, in its first year, I think it went very well. I'd say numbers could definitely swell next year.

    Compliments
    1. Good Goodie Bag and Tshirt
    2. Distance markers every 5K.
    3. Plenty of water points, especially at top.
    4. Plenty of marshalls.
    5. Hot showers and food
    Constructive Criticism
    1. Distance of run jumped from14K to 18K despite numerous posts here and eMails in relation to clarifying same. Very unfair especially on fist timers.
    2. Marshalls in pockets at transition points rather than spaced out.
    3. Left waiting about in cold for start.
But defo well done!!! And a fantastic challenging course, defo competing with the more well known events around Ireland.

    Now, whos on for www.hhar.ie?

Did the Keeper hill challenge on Sat , good course well marshelled the t-shirt was pretty good also
few things for next year 1) Make the finish a bit more of an event like Killarney or WAR , good family atmosphere at a site like football pitch , park etc.. where people can come to see the finish have bouncy castle, food ,etc.. I think it really works well and creates a great atmosphere
    2) Maybe I missed this ( 3h 50min) but I couldnt get anything to eat, drink after the race, I know soup and sambos were supposed to be available and few people I spoke to didnt seem to know where to get them but
a very enjoyable day and it would be great to see the event happen again next year

Fantastic day out and an incredible amount on volunteers. I was slightly annoyed at the fact that we had to do an extra 4k on troopers hill. But I believe this was mentioned beforehand. Did anyone else pass the guy running the with his helmet? I passed him just after the 10km mark, does anyone know if he finished? Will def be back next year!

Yep he came 3rd. He was obviously wearing the helmet for a reason. He used to be a good cyclist back in the day and I believe he had a serious crash off the bike back then. It doesn't surprise me that someone was wearing a helmet on a hill run actually

No I passed a guy running just after the 10k mark on the first cycle stage..

That guy finished in about 4 hrs. He ran the remainer of the race and refused a spare bike at the transition .

Also worth metioning the woman, whos bike broke prior to that guy, and ran approx 17 km of the first stage and grab a spare bike in transition to complete it.

Fair play to her! I passed that guy onda way down a hill after bout 12k done onda bike. Did he actually run the rest of the cycle? That's 20km, madness. is there anymore pics ro go up?

I'm waiting on one or two of the volunteers to send on some pics, and I'll get them up straight away

Fair play to that guy who ran the majority of the bike run. He passed me out jut coming off keeper back to transition, I was delighted to get back on my bike at that stage., don't know where he got the strength to run another 6k back to the finish line. I finished in 45th place with a time of 2:47:20 which is wrong, should be 3:47:20.. Great day out

Guy that ran most of it was the pre-race favourite from West Cork who ran out of steam a bit on Mangerton when leading the Killarney race last October - Fair play to him for not giving up when he got a double puncture but only had one tube whilst in the leading bunch - He is a runner obviously

Jerry O Sullivan from Kerry came behind on the bike with a storming run up and down Keeper Hill to take a deserved win whilst fellow Kerryman Mike Cunningham probably had the fastest run split of the day but has still to get used to his new fancy bike. He could be a force to be reckoned with in future races when he does.

Top marks to Ki and the race team for their first event which should hopefully grow after this year's good reviews.

Hopefully we will see lots more locals out at the Monster Mac in Millstreet on 28th April for which we have a "Baby", "Sport" and "Expert" levels on offer.

Jerry wasn't doing too bad on the bike, he was 4th out onto the run and just a couple of minutes off the lead. An 18km Mountain run is where these AR racers come into their own ;)

Mike 'Curly' Cunningham used a shiny new TT bike for that course !!! legend!! :D
