Robin I think there's a slight error in your conversion rate from kilometers to total miles. It's not much, but currently displaying 73km=45.37miles, when in fact 73*0.62137=45.36. There's a similar discrepancy in the other output values for those who had inputted their totals in km. It's not huge, but will become more apparent later in the challenge (Your table gives 1660km as 994.41 miles, it should be 1600km=994.192 miles).

I sure hope someone gets fired over this. ;)

It's using 1.609 for the conversion of KM->Miles on the first sheet, and then the slightly more anal number of 1.60934 on the positions sheet to calculate the miles back to km's for everyone.

It was a collaborative effort so must have bee someone else that did the mistake. Honest.

Edit: Fixed now so stop your whining.

as Lydiard said "miles make champions" not kms leave them to the triathletes:D

I expect compo, these past few hours on the challenge have been a sham. What department should I address my letter seeking redress to?

...and the Procalimers couldn't care less about walking a mere 500 kilometres, 804.67 is the magic number.

Ok, the google docs format is fantastic, easy to read and even perfect for technophobes like me...
I have managed to mess up my editing while trying to input my second run, I have no excuses other than the fact that the kids are still off school this week and I briefly left my post as chef/entertainer/referee to escape here and of course my boys followed me to the computer.

I ran 15.1 miles two days ago and 10.12 this morning (the joy of escaping the house made up for the not so perfect weather) and my total is still the same as the first day.
    Any help?:D

You're total is down as 25.22 which seems to be right?

Just joined. I managed 261 miles last year, so my aim this year is to hit the 500mile mark. I will see how it goes tho. Can always up the target but never lower it!

Don't normally train twice a day.first marathon in April so mileage will be high during my base pahse and drop down closerto the marathon.

2100 a good target, main thing is too avoid the injuries and see progression each month.

63 miles in 5 days , that's almost a marathon every other day since the beginning of the year.

Respect due :D, certainly inspired me to stop using the bad weather and dark as an excuse. :)

Keeps getting stuck loading rows 102-164 :-( so can't add my 5 miler.

<Note to self: I need to jot down my mileage total in my log too>

Someone managed to delete me out - it's no problem as I only had 3 runs to add up and pop back in again but I wouldn't like it to happen a few months down the line !

This set-up is more open to accidental mistakes aswell. I almost screwed up the whole SBR challenge yesterday just by accidentally clicking and dragging when moving the laptop.

Hey guys, I am a first time participant of the 1,000 mile challenge and to be honest I'm very new to running (as a regular activity) so I have a few questions if someone would be kind enough to answer them.

    1. I always stretch and warm up before a run and stretch and "warm down" after a run, sometimes more than others however, sometimes I have sore enough muscles a day or even 2 days after a run. Can anyone tell me just one time or even provide a link to show me exactly what I need to do to avoid pain?

    2. I have a fairly good pedometer for calculating my distance but I don't use it because I don't think my stride lengths are always the exact same, in fact, I know they're not. They probably are about the same most of the time but not all of the time. Instead I am using a google maps distance calculator which is definitely very accurate if the proper time is taken to calculate the distance. So far I have been very careful when calculating the distance and even rounded down my final figures. e.g. I calculated a run of 5.536 miles and rounded it down to 5.5 just in case. I'm wondering do I need to get a GPS Watch or is this acceptable? This is what I use: http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm

    3. Seeing as the start and end of a run often have walking included as a method of warming up or down, should these be included as the distance?
So far, I have included my full routes in the distance...

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ is a lot easier to use version of google maps for this. Using that site I get 4.23 miles for a route when my garmin says its 4.1 . Basically the difference is that one of the roundabouts have been replaced with a junction so I don't have to go around it. So its very accurate. 2% +- most I'd say. Depending on the garmin watch you use this site may be more accurate than it at times. If you want to get a watch as its handy rather than checking that site each time after the run. The 305 is the best one as it will do everything you ever need and the better ones are just smaller and 3 times the price. One of the top irish male runners looking to qualify for the for london still uses one as its such a great watch.

Aches and pains are inevitable. To stop them turning into more serious problems, build up your distances/times running slowly, and run at an easy pace (conversation speed) most of the time.

Thanks for the replies. I might get one of those watches in time, a little bit expensive for my current budget though. For now, I have to amend my distances.

Great new format Robinph, really easy to use. Thanks for setting that up.

Started this last year but first had Plantar problems then my Groin finished off my year, was always going to be tight to do the 1000 but gonna give it a real go this time. The motivation from watching everyone add up the miles. Good luck everyone.

People are really pumping the miles up this year compare to last year.

Yeah, this is the most competitive its ever been at the top end. Serious numbers from the top guys, and some quality sessions too judging from their logs.

It's amazing the effect it can have on you... I was heading out on a run on Saturday and I relaised I hadn't charged my Garmin, I usually take this as a sign from above that I need a rest day but I still ran and then calculated my distance on mapmyrun.
Will I still be this enthusiastic in March???:) I hope so
