    I really like Tokyo*.
Couldn't bring myself to part with the €25 for the Tokyo Horizon

I was lucky enough to be in a bar when some idiot ordered 3 bottles for him and 2 mates, they all drank about a mouth full and left the rest of the bottles at the bar, myself, a barman and another lad at the bar decided to try some from one of the bottles, was rather nice but wouldn't pay 25 for a bottle myself.

Same thing actually happens a fair bit in this bar.

Heard a story of someone buying two Tatical Nuclear Penguin and him and a few mates barely taking a sip each!

Got a bottle of La Trappe Quadrupel for a present. Looks like a nice night in by the fire for me.

Drinking a BrewDog Christmas porter at the min and it's, erm, ****...

I don't know how else to
    Put it...

    Really expected more!

What about it didn't you like? Was it too spiced/Christmassy flavoured? I have a bottle of it and one of There is No Santa in my cupboard, I'm hoping it's not going to be a repeat of A Winter's Ale (I thought it was horrid).

Why can't you get Porterhouse beer in 500 mls rather than the 330 mls ? Nearly every other Irish craft beer comes in the bigger bottle

I heard it was because they where keen on selling it by the 6 pack, but usually the 6 packs are broken up by the retailers.

There is no santa is link drinking a fruit cake, but in a good way.

Christmas porter is just crap, I don't know how else to put it...

No real effect from the chilli or anything else, has a strange metalic taste, just a badly excuited beer all around, I am a massive fan of dark beers/black ales/stouts/porters/whatever but this stuff is, honestly, one of the worst I have come across!

They have a strong presence in the US so I'd imagine the choice of going with 6 packs was to tie in with that market where the 6 pack is extremely popular.

Finished Xmas shopping much earlier than expected so rewarded myself by popping into Porterhouse to try Bohemia freak out !.

It a black lager in a Czech style. A little hippy an nice roasted malt taste too. Tiny bit too fizzy but it goes quickly.

Very nice all the same an very drinkable.

Drinkstore x-mas order just in my door :D

Nothing crazy but mostly stuff I havn't tried

The ones I'm really looking forward to:

Fullers London Porter - Really like London Pride so I thought I'd give it a go
    Anchor Porter
    Anchor Brekles Brown
    Clotworthy Dobbin, Whitewater
A Winters Ale, 8 Degrees - I havn't heard many good things about this but all the others from these lads are great so Im going to give it a fair chance.
Coffee and Oatmeal Stout, Dungarvan - Can't wait to try this.

They got Dark Arts bottles in a day after my order, this means I'm going to have to go up to McHughs and have a look through their stock

Maybe that's it, I work in an off licence here, the Porterhouse cases never come as 4x6, just 24 bottles here.

It's not like it'd be difficult to do different sizes for different markets though.

BrewDog's facebook page has chat of them bringing out bigger bottles too, which would be nice to see.

I think it's to tie into the American beer drinkers mentality of beer coming in 6 packs. A lot of the beer reviews on Beeradvocate allude to the fact that the beer came from a craft beer 6 pack.
I suppose it's a good way to try new beers without shelling out so much. A 6 pack of 330/350ml bottles doesn't damage the pocket as much as a 6 pack of 500ml bottles. Plus it'd be easier to get through. :)

Oh like a mixed sixer? That'd be class, haven't seen many of them over here. I think it was College Green Brewery that had these canvas bag mixed 4-packs a while ago? They were deadly.

Last night I had a bottle of Innis & Gunn Highland Cask, which I picked up in Tesco recently. It came in a cardboard box and was "carefully aged" for 69 days(!) in 18-year-old Highland whisky casks. The blurb on the side all but proclaims it the finest and most unique beer since the dawn of man.

I did pick up some hints of caramel and vanilla from it, but the whole thing was ruined by its overpowering and sickly sweetness. It tasted like an unfortunate cocktail of beer and coca cola. I finished the bottle, but it was a struggle.

Yeah, it's a great way to promote trying different beers imo. And when you think of it, a 6 pack of 330ml bottles at €1.99 each only costs €11.94 (1.98L) and seems more manageable for a night on the beer. Compare that to a 6 pack of Irish Craft Beer at €2.99 per 500ml bottle, that'd work out at €17.94 (3L)
Obviously you'd be getting more beer for you're money, but it's all about aesthetics & perceptions.

Maybe it'd be a good idea for Irish Craft Breweries to club together and promote a 4 pack with 4 pack version of the 6 pack cardboard carrying case with slight discount on the 4? Or maybe that's just up to the off licenses to promote?

    • Life+Limb collaboration between Sierra Nevada and Dogfish
    • And some Nogneo - Holy Smoke, God Jul and Two Captains.

Really? I heard the opposite? Maybe they package them differently for Irish/US markets

Drinkstore in Smithfield, not sure if they have any left though. Redmonds in Ranelagh definitely have one bottle. Think it's 20 euros a bottle :P

Have a bottle of Aspall's Premier Cru and a Sheppy's Single Variety to look forward to on Friday, along with the first bottle of my own batch of turbo cider.

    Pics or GTFO! :D

I wouldn't of thought that they'd be actually packed in cases of 4x6, I just thought that the actual bottle size was more suited to the US market.

I wonder how well they actually do in the US market? I know they have the recently opened Fraunces Tavern in NY but they must have a decent presence in the bottle trade.

Carlow Brewing have been hitting the US market a lot lately too.

I still have one in my cupboard from my last trip to the US, but I think I remember seeing it in Hollands of Bray a month or two ago. They had a decent selection of 750ml bottles. Also worth checking out Molloys in Clondalkin.

Paid my first visit to World Wide Wines in Waterford today, very decent selection compared to most of the south east, put the finishing touches to this year's Christmas stash, it consists of:

    O'Hara's Pale Ale
    O'Hara's Red
Weissenoher Bonator Doppelbock (Haven't seen or heard anything about this before)
    Williams Brothers Black
    Ola Dubh 16
    Brewdog There is no Santa
    Brewdog Christmas Porter
    Brugse Zot
    Dungarvan Coffee and Oatmeal Stout
    Innis and Gunn Rum Cask

    Yum.
