'Pool fans shouldn't feel too down relating to the on-pitch stuff. I think they've given him a big ban so the FA will look like they're seen to be taking a no tolerance approach, which is right, but the ban will probably be halved on appeal. All the 'Pool fans have to do now is accept that they have a racist playing for their team.

That's a very pathetic post. I feel sorry for the poster.

8 match ban. Well deserved. Well done the English FA for stamping out racism.

    Suarez, the racist. :(

Surely the sanction for racism should be higher.

Yep, that's the end of that.

Terry had better be banned now.

fair enough, the FA felt they had to take a stand on this issue, but what better way to make a stand than to also ban the England captain.

i won't be holding my breath.

i accept the decision...i still think it's harsh. i don't think it was meant maliciously, i think it was a stupid moment from Suarez. but now he'll be labelled a racist, and taunted horrendously around England after this.

i hope the FA are absolutely sure Suarez deserved a ban. i know there are laws to abide, which is why i will accept the decision, but Suarez will have to live with this tag for a long, long time, so he better have deserved it.

Its a huge thing that the FA have tagged Suarez's character with and I'm not so sure an appeal will even help.

Terry should get at the very minimum 8 games surely when considering he's actually caught on camera. As far as I could tell the only evidence against Suarez was Evra's claims and Suarez's own admission to calling him "something his teammates call him".

10? Terry should get a season

If the FA are sure and they have proof Suarez deserves his ban racisim in the UK is a crime

Kind of knew this would happen. Either Suarez would be innocent or a large portion of Pool fans would claim it's a complete joke anyways if proven guilty by the FA.

That's a daft argument. I agree Terry's should be longer on the basis that (if true) Suarez was using a term which is deemed acceptable in his culture, and was oblivious to its implications, while Terry was fully aware

But to suggest though that the sentence should be influenced by the strength of the evidence as oppose to the circumstances of the case is daft IMO. Your guilty or your not guilty, but you can't go giving out varying ban depending upon how sure you are of someone's guilt. Its akin to giving to the defendant in a murder trial 2 years because you think he's not guilty, but just incase he is

Great news, delighted for the lad. He knew well what he was saying when he said it and how Evra would take it. Equally happy I don't have to put up with his blatant cheating over the Christmas.

Terry will be getting at least the same, if not more. There's actual video evidence of him, albeit a bit ambiguous.

    Rule E3 (2) for anyone who's interested E3(1) is just standard abuse;
In the event of any breach of Rule E 3(1) including a reference to any one or more of a person’s ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, faith, gender, sexual orientation or disability (an “aggravating factor”), a Regulatory Commission shall consider the imposition of an increased sanction, taking into account the following entry points:..........

Be very very interesting to see what the FA have in their expanded findings in relation to what Evra said as apparently Evra brought race/ethnicity into the argument & Suarez responded in kind.

Thought I'd crosspost this from the Liverpool thread.

14 days from now is the date of the league match with Man City, so I'd guess that he would be eligible for that if there is an appeal? Based on that, the matches that would be missed would be (assuming we get through the FA Cup 3rd round)

    6 Jan 2012 Oldham H 20:00
    11 Jan 2012 Manchester City A 19:45
    14 Jan 2012 Stoke City H 15:00
    21 Jan 2012 Bolton A 17:30
    25 Jan 2012 Manchester City H 19:45
    28 Jan 2012 FA Cup 4th Round
    31 Jan 2012 Wolves A 20:00
    6 Feb 2012 Tottenham H 20:00

    First game back?

    11 Feb 2012 Man United A 12:45

If i got a hearing for all the things i said in the heat of the moment during a match, i'd be up for charges for slander against half the Ma's of Dublin; referring to a fellow player as a p**sy; a poof; a dirtbag; a pansy; and a filthy needle swellin scumbag. 50 match ban right there

Cannot understand the Suarez sympathy. He has been banned for racist abuse (or something similar if not quite that) by people with alot more information than us on what happened.

    Will it ?

    Evra was never charged.

    Fully expected.

I would like to see the full details of the commission's investigation but I never really believed that the "Negrito" thing was anything other than an excuse thought of after the fact.

I know the urge is to scream at the FA but I am more pissed with Suarez at the moment.

Nothing as Evra was not charged with anything, whether that is two faced or not.

So best not to appeal, and have him back asap,,,Or appeal, get no where with that appeal, then lose him for 8 games,
I think he is at nothing appealing, Best to get these 8 games out of way,
    Wigan A
    Blacksburn H
    Newcastle H
Man city A <<< expect to lose anyway
    Oldham H
    Man city A CC
    Stoke H
    Bolton A

Best 8 games we could have hoped, Could not have picked better 8 ,

I wonder if it works out like that would Dalglish play him at OT? He wouldn't be match fit and the untold abuse he'd receive at Old Trafford would be unbelievable.

Would be very interesting what decision he'd make there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭stumpypeeps

I don't think anyone can argue with the verdict. He may be unfortunate in so far as cultural differences have played their part. However, he made reference to Evra's skin colour and as such should expect such a verdict and ban.

As for the long term ramifications, after a year or so it will all be forgotten.

I'm not we don't, but we have no one even close to Suarez, and even if we did I wouldn't defend him.
