    Similar issue here..

The default email app is a bit ****e imo.. it tells me when there's new mail in the notification bar alright, but when ya go into it there's nothing (at all) listed until you do a refresh.

Default GMail app is far better. I've tried K9 mail too but wasn't a big fan.

Ha its stopped pulling down mail altogether now, even with juicedefender switched off. I`m having to manually go in to the mail app and then refresh it for it to draw down any mail. HTC phone.

Seems like a piece of **** tbh

Instaled k-9 mail app and its working fine(without juiceguard running)

    SqueezePlayer

Absolutety brilliant way to stream your mp3s from your home machine to your phone.

I was looking into getting Google Music going but the thoughts of sending my music up to them (and the amount of time it takes) didn't appeal.

You can encode the music to 128K I find it helps with the streaming.

    Incredibly responsive too.

I use it in conjunction with SqueezeCommander.

    Hey,

New to Android OS..after I had enough with IOS.

Have the S2, so would like some apps that you'd recommend as basic ones that everyone should have etc. Its not rooted yet. Will root when I learn a little more about the OS.

    Thanks.

Has anyone tried sprinkle on SGS2. App is supposed to be compatible with android 2.3 or higher, I have 2.3.3 and market says its not compatible with my phone. I am dying to try this game. I can see this app in the online market but I cant see it in market on my phone.

I think the SGS2 doesn't have tegra 2 which is needed for this game

Getjar have several free apps on their website which cost on the Android Market. They call them the 'Getjar Gold Apps'. Some of them include:

    Beautiful Widgets
    Tunein Radio Pro
    Swiftkey X
    Paper Camera

    http://www.getjar.com/apps?ref=0&lvt=1316901515&sid=kq1zv2e8zywuaxrk&lang=en

There's three pages of apps for the Samsung Europa anyway. I've downloaded the ones above, had them scanned with AVG, and they're okay. Also the user permissions are the exact match on the Android Market and on the phone before you install them.

You do need to download the Getjar app before you can download any other ones on their site.

Two apps I've been using from the Android Market recently are:

Scanner Radio Pro - There is a free version to this app (I just bought the full one to support the developer). This allows you to listen to police, ambulance, firefighters, marines etc. scanners all over the world. They're mostly situated in America. It's great for listening to breaking news long before any media will get it. The app has a 'Top 50' list which is in order of listeners. The more listeners there are, the more likely something is happening. Just minutes after the Reno air crash, there were over 800 listeners to the Reno Police, which you could then listen to. Of course, Chicago Police are always on top of that list as there's a crime every 30 seconds or so. :D

AVG Anti-Virus - If I have to tell somebody to download one app, it would have to be this. It has a file scanner, sms scanner, and download scanning. Also, if you link the app to your Google account, you can remotely access your phone on avgmobilation.com. From there, you can:

    - Turn on GPS and track the location of your phone.
    - Track through Wifi, if somebody happens to connect your phone to a wireless hotspot. My home Wifi had it at accuracy to 75 meters, though the dot on the map was on my next door neighbours house.
    - Track your phone by sending a unique SMS code. This code will power on both GPS and Wifi if they happen to be off.
    - Completely lock your phone so it can not be used. It can be unlocked only through the website.
    - Wipe your phone contents
    - Play your ringtone as loud as it possibly can. Handy if you know your phone is close by and on silent.
    - Scan your phone for viruses

Note: For root users who have the Superuser app, AVG will read the file as malicious. The package name is com.noshufou.android.su. Don't remove it.

Is the stock camera on the S2 decent, or are there other ones out there that do a better job?

Edit: Would be great if there was one that vibrated or had a sound effect for a goal on the phone

Soccer Livescores is good and has a decent filtering system. You can also add matches you are interested in and receive instant updates

Does anyone know a good (free) app for listening to ripped audiobooks? I just need something that'll play through the files, and keep my place in a file if I stop and do something else

Is there an app for sharing photos from my phone directly to a v bulletin forum.
I'm using a desire hd if it makes any difference.
There's probably a very easy way to do this but I can't figure it.

I just use imgur for Android, uploads and gives you the bb code for forum posting. Very simple and very handy.
