I've only tried Twidroyd and the Official App. Twidroyd can check for tweets in the background, and will notify you if a new tweet comes in.
They can all poll like Twidroid. As far as I know only the official one uses the C2DM though

What is the best app for getting the best out of your battery

Juice Defender. You'll find it on the Android Market.

Using the default settings the free version will boost your battery life by about 50%.

Re: Twitter clients. My 2cents - the better ones seem to be fairly comparable to be honest. Look for the top rated ones on the market (there's 4 or 5 very popular ones, I don't remember the name of each), play with each for a while and make your own choice.

I used Tweetdeck for a while but keep find myself going back to Seesmic.

Everyone who knows anything about Android warns against using any battery apps or killing of apps.

Explain this please as I've just installed Juice Defender.

I got rid of advanced task killer because it wasnt any better than the task manager on my Galaxy S2

Depends what the app is doing. If its just doing things like turning down brightness, turning off radios like bluetooth/wifi etc thats fine.
Its when task killers come in thats the problem. Android is designed in a way that apps are killed by the system when more RAM is needed. Linux doesnt work with RAM the same way Windows would.
Task Killers cause problems because they kill apps in the middle of their natural cycle. This can cause data corrpution if they were writing to something but usually the apps would start again to resume what they were doing which drains battery more.
When people see task killers speeding up the phone, its usually down to a single resource hogging app that got killed in the bunch.

Can anyone suggest a good Twitter app? I'm using the official one, but you can't seem to view replies to tweets. Like when you're online you just click the tweet and you can view all the replies. There's a good few twitter apps out there, which one is the best?

I need to know what Stephen Fry is having for lunch!

I really like Tweetdeck (it's what I use on the desktop too), but I've switched to Plume lately and really happy with it - it allows you to mute hastags and users (very handy with Big Brother and X-Factor on).

Im pretty sure that Tweetdeck does do the whole 'see replies to tweets' thing that can be found on the twitter website when you click onto a tweet. I would LOVE a client that would allow me to see replies to tweets that I click on too. Even the desktop version of tweet deck desktop client doesnt do that. I'd stop using a desktop client, if only I was able to remember not to close the f-ing tab in my browser all the bloody time.

I've used all the twitter clients and the best by far is Ubersocial. Its got the most features including downloadable themes, a mute function, image preview, if you go over the 140 characters in a tweet it automatically makes it a twitlonger tweet, you can see which of your tweets have been retweeted and if you are Retweeting something it asks Are You Sure, which to me is excellent as I'm kinda clumsy and with my touchscreen, I'm forever long pressing and then sending retweet by accident.

Juicec defender turns off Wifi/3G/can clock down processor if given root priviledges when the screen is off so should be alright.

Have been playing a good bit of Grow recently. You play as a small fish whose size increases as you eat smaller fishes. I know it's been done before but they do make good use of the accelerometer.

I've grown a healthy obsession to the Papi series of games. Papi is the red ball guy. It's great because you can upload your score, and it is graded based on other people's scores.

QQPlayer is brilliant for playing various types of movie files.

iTriage is basically a medical encyclopedia. It also has a huge database of prescriptions. You can also search for doctors in your area, but that may be more suited to America.

Agreed. Task killers are not a good idea. Leave task management to the OS.

Juice defender basically turns off power hungry parts of the system (like 3G) when they are not needed (typically when the screen is off). But it is also smart enough to periodically turn them so that you still get notified of new mails, tweets, etc.

Don't underestimate how much power this can save: the battery in my old HTC Hero typically lasted a day if I wasn't doing anything with it. But after I changed phone and removed the SIM card, it ran for two and a half weeks on a single charge, simply because it wasn't connected to a network anymore....

Hmm, shall have to give Juice Defender a try..

Decide to give this a go and the difference is incredible. Somewhere around 31 hours between charges on the first count.

With root and the advanced settings in the donate version, I can squeeze 3 days out of a battery instead of 1, but I had to uninstall it because it caused the frequency of a defect in my phone to increase tenfold.

Saw this posted over on the Rugby Forum, if any of you are interested in the Rugby W/Cup then this app might be useful.

Note: Some reviews are saying some of the stats are incorrect.

Try koi free. It's a live wallpaper of you looking down into a pond of fish. When you tap the screen it also makes ripples. Really nice wallpaper.

Not sure if this is an App question really , but anyone know how i can sync Premier League and Serie A fixtures so they show up in my calender?. Have a Samsung galaxy s2,relatively new, and still playing with it. Would like some sort of notification of fixtures/kick off times for the two leagues above in some sort of calender format?
    thanks,if anyone knows!

The harder way to do it would be to get a list of all the matches from what ever site and goto your Google Calendar account and add them all manually.

Actually... just found the easier way...
Open your Google Calendar, click on the down arror to the right of "Other Calendars" and click on "Browse Interesting Calendars".
Click on Sports, then Football, then which ever you want added. there is an "English Premier League" in there.

Now that you have it in your Calendar account, you need to sync your google calendar with your phone (thats in your settings on your phone)

Very well designed app overall though. Will definitely be using during school to get scores.

Staying on a sporting theme, NFL '11 for Android Tablets is, quite simply, one of the best apps I've seen. (You need to "pretend" to be in the US to install but it works beautifully afterwards).

What's the best texting app at the moment lads? Used to have handcent on htc desire, that was good.

Also, what's the best keyboard. I used to like the gingerbread one, but not sure how heavy on battery it was.

I use Go SMS Pro and find it very good, though it used be better when it had a non-manual folder view. I swap between Swiftkey X and Swype for texting, though the Go Dev Team have now launched a "Go Keyboard" which seems to be quite popular and getting very good reviews. Seems decent, a mix of Swype and Swiftkey X. I tried it briefly but went back to Swiftkey X because I wasn't in the mood to get to know a new keyboard.

Let me know if that works. I synced Barca and Liverpool fixtures that showed on my desktop Gmail calendar but not on my phone one. I checked in the sync calendars settings on the phone but it still didn't work.

How do you pretend to be in the US? Looks savage.
