Fresher's Week 2011!

It's great that Freshers' Week is nearly here again. Summers are just so quiet where I live.

It'll be a fantastic opportunity to meet the first years of the coming year and get back in touch with friends from all over the campus. That, and helping out in society events is always a fulfilling experience. It's going to be tiring, but worth it.

I'm really looking forward to Freshers' week. It'll probably be pretty hectic but I can't wait to join a bunch of societies and meet a load of new people. I'm getting really excited seeing all the posts here by other people doing science and by people who are interested in the same socs as me. It'll be awesome to meet you guys irl

There is usually a bit of a boards meet up in the Pav at Fresher's Week. Someone needs to start a thread with a poll on which day is best.

Just so you all know, if any of you ever see the majority of the people you met during freshers week, you'll be the exception. Except for when you see them and awkwardly kinda nod in their direction even if they didn't see you in case they did see you.

That's a pretty good idea.

GUYS, we HAVE to meet up and exchange awkward handshakes/fistbumps. Maybe even the odd conversation about how we love trinity.

Anyone knows what happens throughout Fresher's Week? Like does anyone actually follow the tours and attend the talks? What about night time? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

If it is anything like last years one then I have a fair idea...

So for us we were given a pack out in the post that gave us a timetable of all the stuff that we were advised to attend. These were like tours of the grounds, sports facilities and libraries. I would advise you to go to these however they are not a must-do. I only did the library tour because I felt that that was important.

There is also registration which you must go to as it is where you get your ID card. The ID card is also a must have unless you want to be "that guy" who stands at the door waiting for someone to come and let him in! :P

Another important event is the "induction type" lecture... This is where you meet some of the student union and also the main directors of the modules that you will be doing. At this event you also get your timetable and a pack that gives you all the information that you will need.

Now that I have all the boring stuff out of the way ... Freshers week is designed to help those of you who are coming from secondary school to get used to college life. It is also a chance for you to meet new people and to just down-right have fun!

I would advise you to bring about 20 euro with you when you go in on the first day so that you can buy your freshers week band. This wrist band, I think costs 10 euro, entitles you to gain access into the chosen "club of the night" for free.

Also freshers week is also your opportunity to join the societies that you wish to. I think that "The Hist" and "The Phil" are a must join. A word of warning would be to try and hold back on the societies that you join as I can tell you that you will not be able to go to them all. I think I signed up to like 12 but was only active in 1. :P Paintball Soc.

Looking to befriend some other freshers, as I know barely anyone! I'm gonna be doing science, hopefully living in halls, and looking to join basically any club or soc that'll have me!

I second that. If your tutor is shít it's important to find out early. My tutor pulled me out of a few nasty situations so I'm glad I made contact early.

What exactly do you say to the Tutor though? Just like go up and say hi? And do they have an office or something so you can find them easily?
What kind of things do they help with?

You go into an office with em, they chat to you and tell you about what they can do for you, and if you're lucky you never have to see them out of necessity ever again (unless you have them for a subject of course).

Sometimes, but they're so easy to fake its usually age card or passport.

Seriously, get an age card, so many dont for some unfathomable reason, its the best €10 I've ever spent.
