    Hi Guys

I don't normally post a lot but I thought I was onto a winner with this thread in my search to get the kindle app on my touch pad

I am normally useless with computers but the instructions on here were fantastic and I couldn't believe it but I had impostah installed and all that jazz

Finally I was on the last step and it wouldn't recognize the path for the kindle app I am devasted. When I first got the touch pad I updated it

Does this mean I cant now install kindle (tis one of the reasons I bought the bloody thing)

Thanks again for all the info and instructions on this thread its really help full

Hi, got my touchpad yesterday. When I am registering to use the apps with HP, will I select Ireland?

You know, I was only thinking about you earlier, fair play to Jervis st. Argos and congratulations to you!

You're probably best off selecting Ireland or else you'll end up with an American layout keyboardor something silly like that. Anything else it'd be handy to have an "American" Touchpad for will no doubt read your location from your IP address and I've no idea if you can use a proxy server with you Touchpad but that's going a bit far for most probably!

Question: is this path on your computer, and does it contain any special characters such as "#;?" etc? As in, anything but the alphabet, numbers, and the backslash?

Quick tip I found; when typing, when the keyboard pops up, on the bottom right, click and hold the mini keyboard button to resize the keyboard.

Also, anyone know how to remove the extra search engines here?

    searchpreferences201127.png

The extra search engines are annoying me, and I cant find out how to remove them. They keep getting added.

if you update to the latest version of software, it gives you an option to switch it off.

Has anyone figured out how to move their books to Kindle?
I tried Bluetooth to see if the touchpad would find laptip but no luck.
Touchpad didn't see laptop and same other way round!

I've tried using an alternative app called preader for viewing .mobi files but € and ! symbols keep popping up all over the place. Anyone know a reader app that supports .mobi files properly?

Anyone manage to install Video Flood lite?

ShaneU refer to post #78 above. Changing the preferences to UTF-8 for encoding sorted the € and ! problems for me.

Does anyone know if Quickoffice supports excel files?

I mailed an excel file to the Touchpad and when I tried to open it from the mail it looks as if Quickoffice is going to open up the file then I get a message that says "Quickoffice has encountered an error with this file" with two options support or ok.

Anyone else out there that can help me on this one??:o

The thing with Excel is that it supports many different file types, the question is does it have any in it's "save as" that Quickoffice also supports. Just had a quick look at www.quickoffice.com and it says it the WebOS version supports
    Word .doc & .docs
    Excel .xls & .xlsx
    PowerPoint .ppt & .pptx

Go to Quickoffice.com and have a nosey around in their support section, do a search and you'll find a .PDF file for WebOS, it's all in there!

I did and the only Web Os I can find seems to be for the Palm.

I tried to open the file in the two different formats you quoted above and neither works for me.

Buggers! You're right, it's for WebOS 1, the original Palm version. This is of interest to me too, I'll post if I find a solution though if you beat me to it, feel free to do the same!

Still not happy with pReader. I have all the files organized using Calibre, then when I add it to the pReader it deletes all the data about it apart from the title (even the Author), not good enough. Hopefully something better will come along

Firstly update to 3.0.2 via the Software Update then...

You need to figure out how to first enable developer mode, and how to install Preware, which Google can help with. Afterwards in Preware, install Impostah, and then do the following:

Here's what to do on 3.0.2:

    - Open Impostah
    - Choose Activation
    - Choose US, English, a new email address, and a password
    - Tap Create Profile (then click yes through everything)
    - Tap Login
    - Open App Catalog, which will prompt you to choose country. Choose US.

    - Open up Impostah again
    - Choose App catalog
    - enter com.palm.app.kindle
    - Get info
    - Install

    - Open Impostah (again!)
    - Choose Activation
    - Choose your own country, your preferred language, the email address of your original profile, and the password
    - log in to the profile

    Done!

Wont work for me, when I go into app catalogue US isnt an option, only get Ireland, Isle of Man, Jamica and Italy

Also has anyone got the viewster app to work, its just blank for me.

Anyone know of any other pay to get kindle app

The list of countries is scroll-able, I know it doesn't look like it, I thought they were the only options too at first.
Poke and drag at it and it will move.

    Try again later.

Repeat the process in my original post then from the start to get to see that country list again, that should work. And yes, you press and drag to get to the US I think. Remember, you dont open the actual HP Catalogue app like normal, you open the catalogue section in the Impostah app.

Because you cant just install it from a file on the hard drive. You need to do what I said to get it to work correctly.

I have tried it the way you posted a few times as well and no luck, am trying again now.

When it says enter a new email address, does it have to be a valid email address and then validated?

I used a valid email but was going to try a valid makey up one

I entered a valid email, my second one, but I never verified it and it worked fine, I was able to get the Kindle app from that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,249 ✭✭✭loopymum

Open App Catalog, which will prompt you to choose country. Choose US.

I am not being prompted to choose the country here at all, United States is ticked from the first few steps.

When I open the app cataloge and check the country access it says IE

I'm obviously doing something wrong but god knows

I have updated and done all the tweaks already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,249 ✭✭✭loopymum

ok, I have finally copped it, on the line it says open app catalogue, I was opening the app catalogue in Impostah, no wonder it wasn't working

ok, reading back I know that is not right either but I have never been asked for my country when I enter the App Catalogue from Impostah

ok, back at it again and I have rebooted the touchpad, and started with a fresh makey up email, when I tried the app catalogue in Impostah again it bypassed the country list again again, so I went and tried the HP app catalogue again and I got in that way for some reason and the Kindle Beta is currently installing.

    and I have launch

Anyone tried TVersity as a media server?

    http://tversity.com/download/

Seems it supports transcoding - badly needed for our Touchpads, and also has a web interface that converts movies to flash - so will play anything.

I'll have a go myself after work.

PS. That game Glyder 2 is great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,974 ✭✭✭rocky

hmm after investigating some more, the media server needs to be able to transcode to MP4, don't think there are many that do that? Kalemsoft may be our only hope...

  • Registered Users Posts: 409 ✭✭celj

This site has some great info on apps and games!;)

I installed TVersity, it's alright but needs improvement. The flash interface is basic enough and while it's grand for music or pictures, it downsamples videos.

Kalemsoft on the other hand have a Media Server app that's installed on your main Win PC and the Player on the TP can play most things without stuttering, tested up to 720p. (may need to enable "local storage" or equivalent in TP player's options).

Just figured out swiping bookmarks (left or right) gives you the delete option.

...oh, and switch off the screen auto dim. Surprised nobody has done this in the reviews.
