I can confirm that there is NO stock in galway.

Just back from curry's & PC world there and was informed that there will be no stock available to queuing customers tomorrow morning as all the touchpads they had are either sold or have been reserved :(

On the plus side at least I found out now and not after queuing for ages!

Galways out of luck.. maybe Argos will come through for us galwegians though!

See, all HP had to do was only charge 99euro for em and they would be a great seller :D

    I agree.
But who is to blame for this?

HP, apple etc, would be happy with 50% profit...
    Production say 100, profit 100. total 200.

But the usual fanboys buy the device at whatever it is displayed at.
SO the companies say...****, lets up it by 100 and see what happens.

next thing we know a tablet that costs 100 to make, is being sold for 500. Then the next company says hey if they sll them at that then we should sell them about the same. then the general population ( non tech) people will believe that the second device is almost as good as the original one.
Then it becomes the norm for crazy prices like these....

Does it really cost 100 euro to get an extra 16 gb of space? Of course not, but these companies think, hey if they pay for it at that price we will sell it at that price.

And, except in this case, people still buy them.

Apple is the best example of this.

This is the estimate of the cost of production for a Touchpad btw

"a 16GB Touchpad costs $306 to make, while the 32GB model costs $318."

I had one reserved in Currys up north for collection today. Got my mate to go and collect it after the drop and it is still coming up on their system as £429 so they can't sell it at the knock down price

They said they will hold the reservation for another day, so hopefully it will still be OK.

Let him rant and get his uninformed nonsense out, it's what the internet is for. It's ok, we all know he looks silly.

Given the recent fracas in the now-expired Harvey Norman thread, its all a matter of a "right place, right time" situation.

On the reservations from Argos, when does it say the touchpad can be collected? Mine is for August 31st, can't imagine there will still be any in stock at that stage.

Hardware is expensive to design and make. Though if people had actually bought the Palm Pre or another WebOS device for whatever cost, there might have been enough momentum to sustain the platform... we'll never know now though. Played around with the original Pre though, and found it annoying.

There's as much enthusiast interest in WebOS as a few other small platforms though, and these machines only last a couple of years anyway, so there will be interesting things to install and play around with on this tablet even without Palm/HP. Plus it has a web browser, which is what most of us use all the time anyway.

So with Argos 'reservation' does not mean 'reserved' ?

Does anyone know of a time they pulled a fast one liker this?

And how much does R&D cost?

HP lost $70 million through selling it at this price.

General consensus is that you pay the price it is on the day of your collection.

I arrived at page 5, returned at page 16 the following day and 6 hours later it was page 54.

So after reading through the last 38 pages quickly (if my math is correct) elara will have them tomorrow morning and Argos haven't announced anything about a price drop yet???

Anyone else get in with FNAC? They're a French retailer, had them up briefly at €99 and €129 but seem to have stopped now. They ship anywhere in the world, was €13 for DHL to Dublin. Hopefully they've enough stock to cover my order.

if the price goes down they you'll get it at the new price...

otherwise just don't pay for it and try reserving again until it does come down..

argos's policy is that you pay at the price in store that day... so if it comes down in the morning it'll be sold at the new price

    Hey,

No where did i say that 100/500 EXAMPLE is referring to the HP Touchpad.
( no reference to currency also)

Its a rough example of how tablets & phones are being priced.

Et Cetera obviously theres other costs involved, packaging, customer supports etc.

rivalius13 whats "uninformed" about what i said? Did you assume im talking exact figures about the HP Touchpad....which version, 16gb, 32gb...64gb, with 3g? I think someone is a bit unpset that he didnt get a Touchpad on the cheap yet ;)

the 32gb is still 129 - i don't have a god dam credit card (**** you aib laser) so I can't get it - think there's 4 in stock or something like that

and just as I recheck the deal is gone and it's back to 500 or so euro :(
