Just a heads up, the build quality on these is great, I have an iPad as well, and whilst this may be a bit heavier, I would put build quality on a par. WebOS is a clever and tidy OS which actually does proper multitasking unlike the iPad. It's a shame WebOS is dead, but if, and it looks likely, a proper Honeycomb / Icecream build of Android makes it onto this tablet it will be an iPad2 killer for €99.

Of course they can, I'd say it's some craic in the central warehouse today! Mines due in on Wednesday and I have 'til Saturday to pick it up.

The Dixons sale was as I'd expected - pure chaos. Managed to get a 16GB model in the basket. Got through to checkout and passed payment. As I confirmed my order the site fooked up and I lost my order.

Tried going through process again but no stock left.

Just reserved the last 16GB version in any of Chester's Argos stores. Need them to do a quick price drop though as I only have it reserved until end of tomorrow.

Well look whats happening with Elara, they had a potential 1000+ and were told then they were being reallocated. Argos may have 1000 reservations but what about actually getting their hands on that number?

The thing with Brick and Mortar stores is that they probably have stock on hand already, opposed to Online stores like Elara who probably order it direct when need be. The likes of Argos or Carphonewarehouse could be sitting on a few hundred units around their stores nationally.

Argos have an immense warehouse operation and often deal with rushes on particular products. You could be right though, no one here has reported any actual communication with them.

I don't think HP would want to pee off a distributor as large as Argos, Elara are tiny compared to them. Public Relations nightmare for Argos from a customer point of view.

Most Argos seem to be OUT of stock.Hope with their buying power they can fulfill all reserved orders.

But I assume that's because there are a huge number being reserved

but all argos would have to do if they dont get amount of stock they need is dont reduce the price of the model, none of us will pay whats being asked by Argos now so wouldnt show up to collect our reservation.

reservation gets cancelled / times out
then in a week argos proceeds to reduce price to the 99 / 129 level and sell them to joe public.

All reserved Touchpads are actually sitting in their stores, but people won't actually buy them until the Price Drops. I'm sure Argos want these gone ASAP too, so will drop the price soon.

Given that HP are pulling out of the PC market and killing all WebOS product lines and this is a fire sale with no hope for more in the future, I don't see how HP would care much what Argos or any other retailer thinks now.. those days are gone.

Or they raise the price thinking there;s huge demand.

    This IS Argos :D

This is exactly what's happening. They are being reserved left right and center in the hope that they will drop the price. Sooner or later they'll get flagged up that the reservations aren't being collected and they will simply have to update the price.

According to this and the elara thread, the retailers still make the same profit margin. If argos get less stock, they make less profit.

this may not be the case as i have one reserved locally and its saying available for collection from sat 27th so they must be waiting on a delivery from somewhere?

"Hi, we have no news of the HP Touchpad dropping in price. Please keep checking our website for up to date information."

I am hoping Argos get enough in,if they pull the BS move of cancelling all orders and selling on a first come basis I will be very disappointed, I also hope most here will not be greedy basterds and buy more than they need,if you get yours and have a spare share here, don't just abandon the unused code.

I have a code as well but I cant pick up mine until Thursday. Doubt I'll get one that way. I'd give it a week and there'll be a tonne of the on ebay. So many, that they'll go for around the price you would pay in the shop.

Already I'm not too wrong. http://shop.ebay.ie/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A3%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1&rt=nc&_nkw=hp%20touchpad&_sc=1&_sop=3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=5

50 times as many as there were 2 days ago.
