HP's Touchpad was almost certainly doomed from the start because its design and build quality didn't come close to those of Apple's Ipad or even Samsung's Galaxy Tab, but hopefully its failure will serve as a cautionary tale for other tablet makers that might think of emulating it.

Complete Tosh. actually the article is tosh. HP has massive losses from buying Palm. nothing to do with this tablet.

    Who writes this crap.

Hopefully with this spike in sales, we'll at least see an increase in Unofficial development for WebOS.

Sounds a bit strange. Are they doing a Sony PS3 perhaps?

I really dunno tbh... i does seem a bit stupid like.. surely a gradual phase out but continue to support the WebOS for a year or two and then just ditch it would have been a better idea but then again I'm sure they had some reason for it... i dunno but hey I might be getting a tablet for €100 i'm not going to complain because I wouldn't buy one for any more than €150 :D
a 16GB Touchpad costs $306 to make, while the 32GB model costs $318.

that was the most interesting part of the article I actually though tbh - only $12 more expensive to make yet it's always €100 give or take more expensive in the shops  we really do get ripped off sometimes don't we...

Any chance of someone editting the original post to give best prices with links? Too lazy to trawl over 49 pages :)

Better still if it could include the best prices in Ireland

I suppose the price of Storage, Insurance, Security for all the Touchpads, Pres, Accessories would prove to be very expensive in the longrun so the best thing to do is sell them ASAP.

    No

"We deliver to all UK addresses (including Northern Ireland). This excludes the Channel Islands. We also exclude BFPO (British Forces Post Office addresses)"

From what we have gathered throughout the day, each retailer will/should be pricing the Touchpad at €99, €129, and €179 for the 16Gb, 32GB and 64 GB respectively.

Currys/PC World have allocated so many to each store and will go on sale tomorrow.

Elara will know how much stock they will get in the morning, and will then go on sale.

Carphonewarehouse have said they are not sure what the situation is, and if they do drop the price it will not happen until September. But TBH they'll be extremely lucky to get any stock after tomorrow, unless they have stock on hand.

We assume all other retailers that have stock will go ahead tomorrow and reduce their prices.

I am at the checkout now in Dixons with a 16gb for £89 and free delivery but sadly the website can't handle the load :(

    Edit:

Finally they sent me to an empty basket: no joy

No doubt it will. The website was running slow after the prices were announced over in the elara.ie forum earlier. Now with a confirmed time frame of release the site will go down completely tomorrow :(

Thank f*ck I have an Argos reservation.
Seems the best bet at the moment.
Elara will be gone in minutes!!

So elara have said HP are reallocating stock to different retailers fairly. Is there any point in trying to figure out who they are allocating it all to that deliver to Ireland? We've mentioned elara, dabs, and hpshop, and amazon - CPW don't seem too interested, and I have a hard time believing it's going to brick and mortar shops. Anything else?

Might be useful in case the site gets hammered.
