Hi Sam. New Cabbage user here. Very nice app. Anyway, I'm having the same problem a few others had a few pages back. I get: Invalid response received (tried to parse a page and couldn't find expected text). Sometimes texts get through, so it would appear to be set up correctly. I think if the text is short, it tends to work. If I approach 200 characters it doesn't work, or very rarely. If I schedule a sms to myself it works. What do you think?

    Cool, thanks for the response.

I'm far more likely to use the desktop version if it's available at any given time so it was just something I've been wondering about. Thanks.

Any more features in the pipeline for Cabbage Ultimate? Or any other apps in development?

I don't have any immediate plans for new features but when I started the desktop app in 2007 I thought I'd just be putting up one release and leaving it at that :D

There's some problem with the vodafone website at the moment. I can't send web texts that contain either apostrophes or brackets. There are probably other characters that prevent sending too which is why some messages get through and others don't.

I've reported the problem here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056315797

That was quick. Thanks for your reply. I don't really know what i'll be getting when I upgrade to your paid app, but you deserve the money and I'm sure its worth it.

    Thank you :)

The paid version works like a full sms client, monitoring incoming sms and displaying them as conversations etc. And it can forward incoming messages to.

Like Sam says, it operates like the standard messaging client on your phone, meaning you can reply to texts and so on.

getting lots of failures lately (meteor) on both the phone and desktop app. have actually stopped using the program as much cos its a nuisance retyping the text in my phone when its there on my desktop or copying and pasting over to the standard texting app in phone.
I am guessing that is more to do with Meteor's webtexting service not working/allowing login?

Are you getting errors about an invalid login? If so, that's a problem on Meteor's side, I've been getting it myself on and off. Apparently meteor have apologised for it and are working on it

btw, the latest version of the android app has the option "send as real sms" so if web text isn't working you can send it as a regular sms without having to copy it over to the default messaging app

I've managed to work around the vodafone problem. Apostrophes are now sent as double quotes and brackets appear properly because I found that some other characters are sending but they're being converted to some other character and if I send a copyright symbol © it arrives as a right bracket. Left brackets now appear as the symbol Ä because that's what a left square bracket is being converted to and I thought it would be better to send a funny character that would hopefully be recognised as having been converted incorrectly than to not send the message at all.

This change only applies to people sending their messages via the server btw. Messages will still fail for people sending directly to the vodafone website

Been getting the following error on the desktop version the last few days
Error (-5) Invalid response received from network site

I'm with Vodafone. Anyone else getting this?

I've downloaded the latest version (1.97.5) and login details correct.

There's a problem with Vodafone webtext at the moment where messages with certain characters won't send (e.g. apostrophes and brackets). There's some more info on it here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056315797

and in the Cabbage Desktop thread here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055165333&page=235

But I've got a workaround put into the desktop app. If you click more->Configuration and make sure that "Send message via intermedite server" is ticked messages should start sending again. At least most of them should send, there might be characters other than apostrophes and brackets that aren't sending and they're the only ones I've included in the workaround

Thanks for a great app! Been meaning to buy the full version for ages - finally got around to it this morning! Well worth it.

Firstly I love this app, used it on my old Nokia before moving to all things Android. Cheers for all the hard work Sam.
However, in the last couple of days I’ve noticed that my three webtexts are being appended with "sent using webtext.threee.ie". I know that in the past Cabbage would use spaces and a full stop to get round this issue but it seems to have stopped doing this on the default “via server” sending method. On closer inspection I notice that if I send via “direct connection” it will use the full stop method.
I presume it’s just a bit of code that’s gone missing hardly the end of the world not to have this option via the server but it would be great to get this back. I can’t have all my friends realising how cheap I am!!

Oops, I took that bit out by accident. It's back now

On O2. Get an "IO Exception" no matter what now unless I use Wi-fi. What's going on?

Hi, firstly can you press menu->settings->sending method and make sure it's set to "via server" and see if it makes any difference if it wasn't set to that

Then could you go to send a message but instead of pressing send press menu->more->schedule message. Set the time to some time next week and press send request. Then tell me what response you get

And can other apps access the internet over mobile internet?

Nice app Sam - I only use it when I'm travelling as I have far more texts than I need in a normal month at home.

Anyway, I'm using Cabbage Ultimate (fair is fair - I never mind paying for a good app) and set it to Use Inbox. But my messages don't come to Cabbage, they come to my other message app. It's no big deal but am I missing something?

Do you have Go SMS installed by any chance or some other sms application?

That was quick! Yeah Go SMS...

Go sms prevents other apps from receiving sms by default. You need to open go sms and press menu->settings->receive settings and untick "disable other message notification".

This must be a new setting in go sms because you're the third person this week to report it and no one did before that

Cheers for the quick responses. I've done that so it should solve the problem.

It could well be a new setting - Go SMS push out updates very regularly, I think I only updated a couple of days ago.

App is now useless about 50% of the time for me, Get a "Login Error" constantly some days. When I chose the method "Via Server", I get an IO Exception, every time, unless, again, it's having an on day.

I don't know how to check what other applications have internet access, or what might be causing the issue.

    I have a ZTE Blade/Orange SanFran on Portugese Spring, I think RSL4 or 5.

Annoyingly it's having an on day right now so I can't examine it in detail.

Hi, to check if other apps have internet access on your phone just open your browser and try to go to a website. The next time you start getting the IOException error or "Login request failed" there are a few things I'd like you to do:

    1. Open your browser and try to go to a website. Tell me if it works or not.

    2. In cabbage, try to send two messages, one with "Via server" selected and another with "Direct connection" selected

    3. In cabbage, set the Sending method option to "Via server" and then change the "connection method" to 2. Then try to send another message

    4. Try to schedule a message (menu->schedule message) and tell me what response you get

That should help track down the problem and changing the connection method to 2 might get around the IO Exception problem. Right now it's looking to me like an intermittent internet problem with either your phone or the O2 network because an IO Exception means that the internet connection failed

Done all of that except schedule a message didn't help. I'll try the schedule thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,611 ✭✭✭✭Sam Vimes

When you tried all of that:

    1. Did going to a website in your browser work?

    2. Did cabbage fail to send a message with both the via server and direction connection sending methods and with both connection method 1 and 2?

    3. You said before that it works over wifi and the problem is only over mobile data? Is that still the case?

And once you try scheduling a message can you tell me what response you get? Thanks
