    Hmm

    approx €1.23 per litre X 4.55 = €5.59 per gallon approx

    40/ 5.59 = 7.15 gallons

    600 km = 600x5/8 = 375 mls

    375 mls / 7.15 gallons = 52.44 per gallon.

And unless I got my maths all wrong in my first post or this one I am getting in or around the same figure

Be my guest if you want to prove me wrong.:D

€1.23/ litre x 4.54 = €5.584/gallon better still instead of going to the trouble of doing this sum next time you fill up just take note of the litre reading on the pump and divide reading by 4.54 saves doing a second sum;)

    40/5.584 = 7.16 gallons

    600km x .621 = 372.6 miles

    372.6 miles/7.16 gallons = 52.03 mpg

Not much but your calculation is out by 0.41 mpg;)

Recently did a couple of brim to brim runs, and I'm getting between 37 and 40 mpg out of my 1.3 fiesta. Thought it might have been a bit higher, but maybe the motorway driving has made the mpg take a hit.

    49.6 mpg

    Audi A3 2.0TDI Quattro

(That's averaged over the last 1100 miles)

Getting around 37-38mpg out of my mx5 1.6 over the last few fills.

2004 Mazda 6 1.8L - According the the on board computer it averages 14.6 litres/100 miles. I worked that out at about 31/32MPG. Mostly driving through Dublin.

Motorway driving (assuming no major traffic) should raise your MPG, not lower it.

Usually yes, but not in smaller cars it seems. Ive seen low-mid 30s when Im doing all motorway driving, versus high 30s bordering on 40 when im doing extra urban (ie dual carraigeway driving @55-60 mph, versus motorway driving doing 80-85mph)

00 Subaru Impreza 1.6 (Front Wheel Drive)

35MPG (lots of fun) - 42MPG (Calm Driving)

Also depends on weather conditions & where I get the petrol.

    It's 14.6L/100 miles not km.

You gave me a bit of a scare there, I was already thinking about changing to some hatchback 1.2L diesel that does about 4,000,000 MPG.

    EDIT:

I've looked into that and there's a 1.2L diesel VW Polo which does 80MPG. Road tax would be €104/year. But I'm not going to go down that road.

I recently highmiled(emptied the boot, put extra 3 psi into tyres and kepts revs under or around 2 1/2, changed gears rapidly etc...) on this car that i own. averaged over 980miles at 41mpg!!! Thought it was good. But not worth the effort. Great car...gonna miss it a lot....but going for the diesel....octavia 1.9tdi 90bhp.:(

I'm getting about 45MPG in a 1.9 diesel. Mostly motorway/dual carriageway driving. Get just under 50mpg on a longer drive.

    What type car?

Consistently averaging 40-41 mpg in a 2 litre diesel. That's 80% motorway (slightly over limit) and 20% around town. If I got rid of the town driving it would probably bring it up to about 45 as that's what I got when I brimmed it from half full after a couple of motorway drives.

I getting an average of 50mpg in an Impreza diesel. That is mostly suburban and motorway driving.

Friend of mine claims he gets 700miles per tank out of his audi a3 2003 1.9tdi. Must be around 65mpg. Can that be right?

i have a 2005 clk kompressor and average about 33mpg. On long motor way runs, it has gone up to 41mpg.

Same for me in a 170 bhp 2.0 Quattro CR Diesel. That's driving at speeds of between 70 and 80 mph for about two thirds of the journey. If I drive at an in and around an even 70 mph for 80% of the journey I average 44 mpg.

Yeah, the 170 PDs do better by all accounts. A few people working with me have the 140s and 1000km to a tank isn't unheard of. One has a 140 PD and the other a CR and it's the PD doing better there too.

I doubt it. I would imagine his tank would hold around 65L of diesel which is 14.5 gallons. So 700 miles / 14.5 = 50mpg. That is pretty efficient. My 2.0TDi Audi A4 180BPH is giving me 43mpg. If I drove like my sister then this could almost reach 50mpg I'd say.

    2001 BMW 320ci 2.2L petrol, 6 cylinder.

24MPG, 100% urban driving. I pump about 22 litres of petrol (at about €33) each week and that gets me 100 miles.

I've been debating selling the car or scraping it under the govt. scrappage deal and getting a new, smaller motor (like a golf 1.4). But recently I'm thinking I'll keep it seeing as it works just fine and I would be paying infinitely more money to buy a new car!

Still doesn't get rid of the desire though :pac:
