Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The new site is nice, a lot better. One thing though, does it really need the background image? You cant really see it anyway

No, I guess not. I can take it out if you lot want. Just let me know. Haven't had much feedback at all. So it's hard for me to know.

It's fine, no worries. Just let me know if ye want it removed. I also noticed some people posted Player Videos but have had trouble showing them. I'll look into that too.

Not had a chance to look at the site, but if it's anything like the MM site, then it'll be awesome.

    Good work Haakington.

Site needs to look more Irish! :pac:

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭J0hnick

Not sure if ye think the Irish scene is big enough but, how about a monthly podcast ?. Could do it right before each Inferno to hype it up, talk about the results and what went down during the previous Inferno, as well as any online tournaments held. First few episodes could probably talk about the history of the Irish scene so far, you could even have guests on it week such as OG Irish players talkin about how it was 'back in the day', maybe even get some international players(Bush could Interview WorstGiefEVER and ask him his thoughts on the the Blanka matchup :p).

    Just a thought

As long as we never again use the term OG.

I can do some of that!

First off though, great work. I hadn't realised it had changed until I randomly visited the page the other day. T'was a great surprise!
    Now for the critique:

The background does look off. I'd recommend something more flat and potentially in green.

I dont think each article needs the avatar of those who posted them. They already have the author credited under the title and the avatars look tacked on. Also, I'd prefer a text colour that's not orange for the titles, but that's purely a personal choice.

The menu under the site logo is hard to read in places due to the transparency. I'd give them fully opaque backgrounds.
Also, they reallign themselves to fit the screen, and on my 1024*768 display 'Events' ends up on a line by itself. Maybe locking the buttons into two smaller rows, or making drop downs for similar themed options could deal with that?

Finally the boxes on the right go down too far. By the time I reach the last few I've totally tuned them out.
    I'd remove the following:
Log In - There's already a log in tab at the top of the page. No need to double them up.
Recent Comments/ Recent Posts - Does anyone ever really look at these?

I'd also place the Tournaments and Events pane higher. It should get more priority than the community box - possibly put it at the top. It's what we want everyone to know about first and foremost after all.

Thanks for that Sairus. Unfortunately I'm extremely busy at the moment so I won't be able to do any of that for a few days.

However, I just logged in to the site to do some small things and noticed a **** load of spam in the activity feed section. This really needs to be kept in order. There are also numerous spam accounts (I deleted around 50) - I think you lot need to get a few people who are interested to keep an administrative eye on the site, as currently there are ads for T-Shirts and all sorts in the Activity section :/

I deleted as much as I could but I've too much work to do today to get the remaining spam.

Sounds like a job for Bush80, imo!

    gwan the bush

speaking of updates, im almost there with the Database

    Some example pages:
    http://iamjpg.com/streetfighter/video.php
    http://iamjpg.com/streetfighter/browse.php
    http://iamjpg.com/streetfighter/player.php

You can now login, if assigned as superadmin, you can add/edit/delete videos/events/players etc
if admin you can only add/edit videos/players

All i need to implement is
-Styling, through out the site, putting it together
-Registration [some sort of approval thing]
    -Search functionality
    -validation when uploading videos etc

Just cleaned out a rake more of the spam.

I seriously won't have the time to be doing that alot though...

It is my speciality I guess - damn A&M being spam bloody central >_<

I wouldn't mind helping out with spam if you need another person or whatever. I certainly have the time anyway.

why isnt there a spam plugin installed for wordpress?

Apologies Robbknoll. I've looked into it an it's fixed now. You should be able to sign up.

    @Placebo

There wasn't one originally and I never checked (just skipped my mind) - I did install one recently but unfortunately it was causing conflicts with the user database resulting in people not being able to complete the sign up process. I'll get something else up there asap. It's just I'm mad busy at the moment.

If the mods could just keep an eye on user registrations for the time being it would be great. Or just in general.

EDIT* I've installed another plug-in to content with spam. Hopefully it will help.

Im not sure the new green background works with the foreground colours to be honest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 86 ✭✭Speedhaak

Well, originally there were shouts about "get rid of the swamp green" - then with the other background some folks were concerned the site didn't look Irish enough and suggested green again.

Personally, I don't mind. Perhaps you guys need to consolidate what you actually want. Someone needs to be 'in charge' as it were of the aesthetics. Can't keep changing it every time someone disagrees with the looks. :P

Again, I'm more than happy to be helping out. But:

    1) There need to be caretakers for the site (mods and stuff)
    2) Someone or a group charged with the look of the site
    3) erhmmm... ran out of things..

    :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

I was giving out about the swamp green, lol. I dont think the site should look Irish, that whole thing is cheesy and cliche in my opinion. You dont see srk in the stars and stripes or neo empire with the union jack, lol.
Your right that someone needs to be in charge of what it looks like. Probably should be Farz.

I agree with you there, but I'm only doing what I'm told :P Blame Sairus :/

Look Bush, you seem interested in the general way the site looks. Have a gander at the site and tell me what you think should be done to it. Perhaps you could suggest some imagery (for the background) amongst other things. I spend all day on other projects so it's hard for me to fiddle with streetfighter.ie because I loose money by not working on other jobs.

However, I will update it if solid suggestions are made (like the removal of avatars in the front page posts (which looks better - thanks Sairus) so don't be afraid to criticise the design or content.

    Shoot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

I think the site is nice. The only thing I wasnt keen on was the background. Id prefer the old one over the green. How about trying a grey like on neo empire.

put an add up in the paper for a webdesigner for streetfighter.ie

    Image7.gif
il be sure to apply :pac:

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,237 ✭✭✭Owwmykneecap

    Sairus is wrong about everything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

That was me just taking the piss about all the anti irish people on here. Hence the pac man face :pac:

We are the irish fighting game community after all, that is the one thing that makes us unique so I did lean towards that kinda style rather then just have it look like every other fight game site.

But I'm in the minority there. And most people have expressed many times they don't like anything irish about it , I was just taking the piss last thing I expected was that comment to result in changes on the site.

    lol

Just a thought but have we looked at embedding the FG forum on SF.ie and linking logins with boards ones so people are 'automatically' members logged in?

Surely we know enough peeps in boards to make it happen? That way you could use the steefighter.ie website as the landing site for all things Streetfighter Ireland and still maintain boards connections....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭A-Trak

Security nightmare for boards I'd imagine.

maybe. I can't see that as being a problem really though. Aren't their hosted forums on other sites that have boards integration?

  • Registered Users Posts: 86 ✭✭Speedhaak

Integrating the databases would be a big task. Not only to get it working but for it to port over existing members.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,966 ✭✭✭ayjayirl

yes it would, if you did it that way. Is it not possible to use the boards authentication on the streetfighter.ie and integrate vbulliten support. We do this with some of our clients but I'm not 100% on the sf.ie set up. :)

If its too much work, fair enough. Just a thought.

Can't see this being a possibility.

Can't see this being a possibility.

naysayers and their negativity - always naysaying. tut tut tut.... you and your half empty glasses. Cross combobulation is the way of the future online. Quit livin in the past Marge! :p

Like I said, just a thought. Something that could be broached long before actual effort went into developing and/or integrating it?

Can someone tell me what went wrong here?
    http://streetfighter.ie/index.php/2011/02/03/kikimaru024-sagat-vs-rightbackbill-akuma-gen/

When I go to "Edit your submission", the youTube embedded video shows.

However, on SF.ie all I see is
    <iframe title=”YouTube video player” class=”youtube-player” type=”text/html” width=”640″ height=”390″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/9RHYIVghRts” frameborder=”0″ allowFullScreen></iframe>

  • Registered Users Posts: 86 ✭✭Speedhaak

Hey man, sorry about that. I've fixed it now. You don't need to insert the embed code any more, just the URL of the youtube video.
