oh i agree, which is why i said if you live abroad full time you should have no vote!

if you have to live under the state rules you should have a say in them badly timed holiday or not....i cannot see why they cannot visit the nearest Irish embassy with evidence of their travel plans and vote there....at least that would open up the voting pool to more people.

I know we really cant compare our self to the UK as the voting system is different, but I'm sure that I remember from when I lived there that when you received your polling card that you could nominate someone to vote on your behalf, or it could be submitted by post within so many days prior to the election.

Now under what circumtances it applied to I cant remember, and there was a certain amount of form filling and signatures required, but at least the opition was there.

i have to say i don't agree with this, why should people who live outside the state full-time, vote in an election for a government to govern the state they do not live in????

if you live under the rules of the irish state then by all means have an opinion and a vote, if you live in another country full time thats where you should be voting.
Irish passport holders living in UK can vote in the that countrys elections and I know there was an idea put foreward in Irish goverment several years ago to consider allowing Irish people living in UK to vote in Irish elections ( a much needed vote's a vote :pac:)

    Sadly Happily, I'm emigrating.

If I was staying at home, I would vote, never ever for Fianna Fáilure.

Because they are Irish citizens and have every right to want to have a say in the future of THEIR country. Christ the stupidity.

are you on holiday or living abroad? because if its the latter then it really does not effect you, their policys will not effect you, it is people here living in Ireland that feel the effects of the irish government, e.g.by paying into the irish tax system, buying houses here in Ireland..etc

    I'll be voting all right.
Hopefully there is a credible independent running in my area. Failing that its vote for anyone but FF or SF

No. My sister always refused to vote on the grounds that she didn't like any of the politicians. I always argued with her, stating that good people (Including our grandfather) strived and died for our country and not voting was doing them a disservice. However now I feel the opposite. It's not that there are no politicians I like, it's that there are no politicians I TRUST. None. Not FF, FG, Labour, whoever. I believe it is THEM who are dishonouring what our forefathers fought for. Obviously someone has to get in but I do not want to aid them in any way at all to get into office. I understand the "if you don't vote you don't have the right to complain" but really, what is my option?

I will definitely be voting in the next election - unless I'm dead, in which circumstances its unlikely i will be able.

I think utilising your right to vote is a fundamental privilege we take for granted and should be exercised by every citizen of a nation..

.. if you don't vote i fail to see why you can moan about "the state of the country"
