Not sure some birds were hassling it, especially magpies. I pictured it diving towards the ground.

Nice photo. I got a couple of photos of Griffon vultures which I took in Spain (parc nacional de monfrague), but there all crap:(.
I was hoping you had taken the photo in Ireland somewhere!

Feargal have you ever been to "Eagles Flying" in Sligo? they put on a fantastic display and have Vultures there, a very enjoyable day out.

Great day out indeed, where you can get close to the action!

No, Would be good to see plumages up close! There is only so much you can learn about species ID from a book. Have seen a good few raptors in the wild though:D

Not a recent photo (from a birdwatching trip to Costa Rica 2008), but I think some people might like it. I think it's a strawberry poison dart frog. If you rubbed you eyes or put your finger in your mouth after handling this little gem you could be poisoned. You had to wash your hands well after handling him. The girlfriend told me not to pick him up, it was too dangerous, but I couldn't resist. Got a good photo of him chillin' out on my hand though:)

A north american rarity: a juvenile white rumped sanpiper from clonea strand in Waterford today:D: can be confused with our winter plumage Dunlin but note long primary projections (wing-tips extend beyond tail). This bird can be confused with another american vagrant the Baird's sandpiper (also has long primary projections) but this bird has streaking on flanks which bairds lack. Also more distinct supercillium in White rumped sandpiper.

Here he is with a sanderling. (Sanderling on left).

Rufous marking on mantle (back) tell us it's a young bird and not an adult.

    A pair of Cág cosdearg:):

    Ar fheabhas Feargal !

Go raibh maith agat a fheithid-bheag.
Alas I was not the original finder of the bird, I knew it was down there:(. Just a matter of finding him in the wader flock:D

You may not be the original finder Fergal but thank's for posting it.I see the Cág cosdearg (red leg crow) regularly but none of my friends call them by their Irish name, i'll have to adopt it.
