Hey Bagmagnet, lovely to see the pic of the Dipper, have only ever seen one once here, well spotted.
Bagmagnet, I love the dipper!! One of my favourite birds!

Yeah, it was great to see a Dipper, first one I ever saw, though it didn't stay too long. Had to rush to turn on the camera and zoom in full, so didn't get the best picture ever. There are some rumours of an otter around the same area, so I'll have to keep a look out

I know its not obviously what it is called, but the title of my post is the name of the moth!
    December Moth.

13 in a trap last night.
12 together can be seen in the 12 days of Christmas thread.
Usually the antennae are tucked away, but I gave this one a little tickle so he'd show them :)

They don't, many species don't feed as adults

Overexposed but you get the idea. Check the bushes. I'm burning about 1.5 kilos of sunflower hearts per day. Also losing about 1 bird every 2 days to local sparrowhaks. One of the long term pheasants has discovered how to get food from the feeder.
I've since cleared a patch to feed the black birds etc with breadcrumbs and olive oil. Loving it. Lots of fighting though. Pecking order (I think) = pheasants --> blackbirds --> starlings --> sparrows --> goldfinches/greenfinches --> robins --> stonechat --> tits --> chaffinch

Just back from 3 months in North America. Saw lots of wildlife including humpback whales, coyotes, sea otters carrying their offspring, elephant seals, a californian condor and lots more. But I've attached my favourite sighting (apologies for the picture quality).

We saw a number of bobcats in the Marin Headlands - just half an hour by public transport from downtown San Francisco. I watched this particular one for 45 minutes and got to see him catch this rabbit, face off with a coyote, eat some prey, and wash himself.
