As much as I hate to say it... it's a fairly entertaining show.. Foley is very comfortable for someone who's never presented a TV show before..

Jesus the girls are harsh on there. And not in a funny way like the English ones, just in a bitchy, common, let's be nasty way. I felt so sorry for that poor guy at the end, he was lovely and there was no need for them to be so nasty to him, it was really awful to watch :(

Have to agree. Didn't see it all but the last guy got slated for his hair, wanting to be a fireman and then he was told he looked like Bosco cos he was standing behind a box.

I'd agree with you that the vast majority of the female contestants are on the show to genuinely find a potential partner but I'd say the same about the blokes too. Okay there are obviously people on there for the craic too but you can spot them a mile off.

IMO the fitness instructor from Finglas and the Van Wilder dude from Cavan are the sort of confident/cocky blokes who would attract women anyway so I'd say they were only doing it for a laugh yet got dates. On the flipside the short fella from Mayo & the DJ from Belfast seemed quite genuine and nervous/vulnerable but both got complete blackouts and were ridiculed the most by the girls. Go figure!

In a nutshell the show doesn't work on it's basic principles because the contestants who are genuine most likely won't stand a chance and it is more focused on entertainment with witty quotes and cringe worthy put-downs, no that's a bad thing when it comes to ratings.

Btw to the contestants who are on the show and contribute to this thread, do you get to meet all of the blokes after the show? I've noticed a few girls that were interested in guys on the show but hit their lights off at the last minute mainly because everyone else did and they possibly didn't want to come across as desperate. They could possible hook up after the show when there is no pressure etc?

The problem there is,Women do not want a guy they can push around and if they even remotely come across like that they are out.Women like shy but they wont admit it,they also like someone they feel will take them in hand and protect them.
Sensitivity with an air of surety in any man will create fancying them even if they arent attractive in first sight.
It is meant to get alot less lights out in future weeks anyway :D
p.s i also read they do infact hook up after show and been more hook ups after then during lol :P

So basically women are looking for the impossible? No surprises there so :D

I think the show is basically highlighting what people already know anyway, ie: that the majority of Irish women are extremely fussy and are mainly attracted too badboy or player types.

Case in point, Van Wilder from Cavan. He was in his late twenties and obviously has never had a career or serious job in his life as he has been in college for 9 years. That would usually be a major no-no for alot of women right there. Add the fact that he is a notorious player that has to target teenage freshers because he has 'had' most of the other girls in college. Most women would be totally appalled by that right? Wrong! He actually had the most lights on at the end as far as I could tell and he even insulted the girl that he picked by saying "I'll give you half an hour" right at the end

Btw, I wonder if his shoe size was a 12 or over like his date had originally wanted? ;)

I think the women are the public servants.. They haven't realised the Celtic Tiger is over, but are still looking for Celtic Tiger luxuries.... Ladies, no longer will the lad be pulling up outside your house in a Beamer to bring you out to Club 92... he'll be pulling up outside in a Ford Fiesta, heading to Lidl (where you have Carte Blanche on the choice of wine), and then back to his (parent's) place for a TV dinner...

It's not bad boys or players per se, it's to do with sex and sexual experience, players and bad boys have the illusion of being able to shag better + the old cliche of tryna chance that bad boy and mould him

Ah yeah when i was younger Irish lads told me not to do chasing so i stopped, and caught myself not Irish wonderful man :o
I dont think i know women and girls are given mixed messages by Irish guys so much so they mess them up by the time they reach early teens and 20's,takes about 5 to 8 years for most to get back what they messed up :P

I have to admit it I am a little fussy:o
In saying that, I am only really fussy if I out for a night. In other words, if i get to know a guy in a work situation or something else, parts of his personality will win me over, his looks might not appeal to me, he may not be loaded, but getting to know him is what will probably win me over.

I think, after travelling a good bit, and meeting many;) men that have not got the same outlook on life as many Irish men have, this has made me fussy. This means that i am not going to go off with a guy just because i am saying "Sure what the heck, tis only a score!" I wouldn't waste my night. If its in a nightclub/pub or somewhere, they are going to have to impress me instantly being honest. I know i'm shallow. I really am not bothered by money, cars etc. All i hope is that he isin't wearing a gaa jersey and falling around the place stupidly drunk.;)

A little OT, but Rebel10 what's your ideal man? Just curious on sociological type grounds :)

    Honestly
    • a guy who doesn't take himself too seriously
    • a guy who isin't obsessed with material things
    • a guy who doesn't aim to get sh**faced every night they are out
    • a guy who isn't macho, i.e. none of those rugby boys, i see them as just big pieces of meat and muscle and kind of soulless. (That sounds cringey, sorry:o)
    • a guy who is talented at something, i.e. artistic, musical, whatever, i just find it really endearing that they are interested in something individual and personal
    • a guy who isin't involved in MACRA!!!! (Sorry, just not my thing!)
    • a guy that looks like a cross between Paolo Nutini, Johnny Depp, Joseph Fiennes and many others!!
    • a guy with amazing eyes, so that everytime they look at me i melt a little.:o
I know that i will never find someone who matches all of these things, but i can dream.:p
