I should probably point out that the 21 year old Limerick guy is my friend's ex.

She took great delight in watching him make an arse of himself. :p The poem, the late 20s-early 30 year olds practically doting on him.

Thing is though, when you watch it you can see that none of them are really taking it too seriously. Take the guy last week, didn't he already have a girlfriend? He just did the Irish thing and "did it for the craic"...and probably the free drinks. :pac:

I don't think there is one person going on that stage looking for a long-term relationship.

I wasn't able to get into it I much prefer the English version.

Absolutley hillarious last night. I'm definatly watching this next week.

So true about Foley's height, he makes all the lads look tiny!

That Bosco comment was pure priceless, and he gave a good retort too.

Whats that girls name who liked the Black eyed peas song? She seems v nice.

Lorraine and Louise fair play to ye both for posting on here :)

Could someone please tell Irish Producers that The Helix is not a suitable place to produce TV shows, It sounds like they are in a community town hall.

IMO this is a really bad format in any country.

Agreed. It never works. Studio would have been better.

Agreed. And the piped audience noise is embarassing when you see about 30 people in there.

Yeah, it gives the production an air of desperation .. oh we're having such a wacky time we are lolz ..

Ah I think that happened as far back as him walking out to KC & The Sunshine Band and trying to get the audience to partake in some 'put yo' hands up in the air' clapping :D

I wouldnt turn my light out for that but i would for been small and overly built muscle wise for height.
But i get your point :D

Infairness it wasnt one of the worst comments but still...i know!! But as far as I can remember its all nice comments from here on in....hopefully!!!

Its not you should feel bad just the lights go out for silliest things.
I am looking forward to next one.:D
The only way the guys on here will be happy if the girls leave their lights on for everyone lmao other wise you will be fussy and shallow.
Just have to be true to yourself.:)

I was out lastnight so missed it but I watched it just there on the TV3 website (desperate compression rate on their video btw) and I have to say I laughed my ass off at a few of the comments, the 'Bosco' one in particular was a highlight :D

The fussiness factor is still a major talking point though, I mean turning their lights out for trivial things like the thickness of someone's eyebrows or shoe size was too small or they didn't like the look of their hands etc is bloody ridiculous IMO, but then is any Irish man watching it really surprised? :p

Btw the new contestants came across as very odd. The lady in her 40's will find it difficult to find someone as most of the male contestants (aka - lambs to the slaughter) are in their 20's and I don't think they will bring a bloke over the age of 35 onto the show as most of the girls are fairly young. As for (K)lamborghini............where to start, actually the less said about her the better :D

    Quality viewing none the less!

I have got to say tonight the reasons for turn offs were completely ridiculous and they are now making a show of Irish women.
Sorry guys had no idea Irish girls have become like that as none of the girls i know would ever do that.Guess thats why they are not single.

To any of the people who took part in Take Me Out, thanks for the laugh!

If it's your first time here and you only found it because you google'd "Take Me Out", welcome to Boards! Have a look around and don't judge it by this thread alone.

I watched the English version, primarily for the comical things the birds would say and the comedy Paddy provided. The Irish version is funny too.

The editing certainly makes it look like the Irish girls are living up to the view of the stereotypical stuck up reputation that Irish lads have of you. I'm sure you're not but, those one liners provide the laughs. You're one dissing the Financial Analyst saying she'd have nothing to talk about then Foley stinging her for not having a job :p

As for the lads going on this; it's either balls of steel or you didn't know what you were in for! The problem with the lads is most of them have nothing prepared like the video of your man working out. They just talk about liking to travel and being up for a laugh. Who doesn't/isn't? Are we a nation of singers?

As for posters criticizing how the "contestants" look, would it be more real for you if it was 24 stunners? The variety in looks and age add to the show not take away from it.

Have to echo the comments on the production quality. No comparison to the English version.

    Comedy Gold. Fair Play!

    Oh, and this thread! :P

can i just ask something? if nobody is out to find a relationship what the fcuk is it supposed to be about? is it a poor excuse for comedy or what?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 452 ✭✭Aldito

The fermanagh lad's "at least I'm aging gracefully" comment was one of the funniest things I've ever heard. And the thick bird took about 10 seconds to get it.

Well, I suppose the premise of the show itself is for for "matchmaking", and Foley is kind of a "Cupid".

But it really looks like everyone is up there for the craic.

I dont believe it for a second, those girls in majority are there to try find a guy and love. The guys would be more likely to have had their mates say you wouldn't have the balls, and they reply "yes i would" Or i bet you,you wouldn't go on it" And they did.
But Brad Pitt or Mathew mcconaughey not coming out of the lift anytime soon.
    Just assumption.lol

I'd agree with you that the vast majority of the female contestants are on the show to genuinely find a potential partner but I'd say the same about the blokes too. Okay there are obviously people on there for the craic too but you can spot them a mile off.

IMO the fitness instructor from Finglas and the Van Wilder dude from Cavan are the sort of confident/cocky blokes who would attract women anyway so I'd say they were only doing it for a laugh yet got dates. On the flipside the short fella from Mayo & the DJ from Belfast seemed quite genuine and nervous/vulnerable but both got complete blackouts and were ridiculed the most by the girls. Go figure!

In a nutshell the show doesn't work on it's basic principles because the contestants who are genuine most likely won't stand a chance and it is more focused on entertainment with witty quotes and cringe worthy put-downs, no that's a bad thing when it comes to ratings.

Btw to the contestants who are on the show and contribute to this thread, do you get to meet all of the blokes after the show? I've noticed a few girls that were interested in guys on the show but hit their lights off at the last minute mainly because everyone else did and they possibly didn't want to come across as desperate. They could possible hook up after the show when there is no pressure etc?

Also, I hate how everyone calls Ray Foley "Foley", there's something really annoying about it.
